Brazilian Star sailor Robert Scheidt is one of the most decorated sailing Olympians ever, having competed in four Olympic Games winning gold in the Laser in 1996 and 2004. But his journey on the international sailing scene began in the small Scottish town of Largs in North Ayrshire. This is where Scheidt sailed the Laser at the 1991 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship winning the gold medal ahead of Dean Barker (NZL).

National Néo 495 du 2 au 5 juin 2011 Bruxelles Royal Yacht Club En ce week-end d'Ascension s'est déroulé, pour la première fois en Belgique, le « National Néo 495 » destiné aux personnes à mobilité réduite. Cet événement important a pu avoir lieu à Bruxelles grâce au soutien apporté par Mesdames les Ministres Brigitte Grouwels et Evelyne Huytebroeck, grâce également au Port de Bruxelles et au Bruxelles Royal Yacht Club. Six Néo 495 ont participé à l'épreuve. A bord les équipages étaient composés de deux personnes moins valides ou d'équipages dits mixtes réunissant une personne moins valide et une personne valide. Le mercredi sont arrivés les équipages suisses du Club Nautique de Prangins, français de la Sociéré Nautique du Grau du Roi, belges du Bruxelles Royal Yacht Club ainsi que de deux équipiers de nationalité anglaise. Le jeudi a été consacré à la jauge des bateaux et des voiles et aux formalités administratives. Dès le vendredi matin les manches ont été lancées sous un soleil fantastique et un vent soufflant assez fort. Ces conditions météorologiques ont donné lieu à des manches musclées et spectaculaires. Les spectateurs présents étaient assez étonnés de voir les performances des bateaux et des équipiers. Le samedi les conditions étaient aussi bonnes et le vent légèrement moins fort. Au total huit manches ont été courues sous l'œil vigilant de la sécurité assurée par le B.R.Y.C. et la patrouille du Port de Bruxelles. Le dimanche a « raid » a permis aux compétiteurs d'effectuer une promenade au fil de l'eau les amenant à passer ... de justesse ... sous le pont Van Praet ! Que retenir ? Cela a été un week-end formidable chargé de prouesses sportives, de fair-play et d'amitié. J'ajouterai pour ma part chargé aussi d'une immense admiration. Les prochains événements des Néo 495 se dérouleront en Espagne (Candas-Avilés) les 25 et 26 juin, en Suisse (Prangins) les 26 / 27 et 28 août, en France (Port Camargue) les 10 et 11 septembre.
