What seems to be a problem in international politics, is very easy in the sailing sport. The SAILING Champions League and official representatives of the national sailing leagues met in Hamburg on the 17th of June 2016 to establish the International Sailing League Association. All participants agreed on the standardisation of the rulebook for international league sailing. Ten representatives establish the "International Sailing League Association" in Hamburg today and elected the board represented by Peter Wolsing (Denmark), Edward Russo (France) and Roberto Emanuele de Felice (Italy).

This iconic regatta has captivated the yachting community since its inception in 1998. The 19th edition, held in Sydney, Australia, provided the perfect stage for close racing between evenly-matched, 40-foot monohull racing yachts, helmed by skilled and competitive owners. This week I came home to a couple of feet of water in the bilge. It turns out that someone must have left the forward shower faucet on and it drained all of the fresh water into the bilge. The issue wasn't so much that the water was in there, but the fact that it was not exiting the boat quickly enough. Alle Infos über Film, CD und Buch unter http://www.luvgier.de Es gibt viele Handbücher für Bootsmanöver aller Art. Doch sehr wenige für Einhandsegler. So saß ich am Start meiner langen Soloreise 2014 durch die Schären ein wenig auf dem Trockenen. Ich wusste nicht wirklich, was mich dort erwartet und wie ich ohne Crew mit allen Situationen umgehen sollte. Aber so ein Schärentörn einhand wurde ja schon oft vor mir unternommen und musste also machbar sein. Von daher verließ ich mich auf die Methode "Learning-by-doing". Die hat am Ende funktioniert, war aber anfangs oft unschön. Denn trotz guter Vorbereitung hat man einfach immer zu wenig Zeit und zu wenig Hände. Und dabei geht es buchstäblich um Sekunden. Im Prinzip habe ich daher probiert jedes Manöver auf seine elementarsten Bestandteile herunterzubrechen und so einfach wie möglich zu halten. Und siehe da, irgendwann hatte ich meine Rezepte für alle Situationen gefunden, auch wenn dazu viel herumprobieren gehörte. Und so konnte ich dann am Ende auch endlich Einhand an einer Schäre anlegen. Ein Szenario welches mir anfangs kaum alleine zu bewältigen schien. Schon während der Reise habe ich angefangen meine Manöverrezepte auch auf Video festzuhalten. Zunächst wollte ich diese in meinen Film "Zeitmillionär" integrieren, das hätte den Film aber extrem lang gemacht und auch sehr speziell für Nichtsegler. Daher habe ich nun, zusammen mit ein paar zusätzlichen Erklärungen auf dem Trockenen, eine Reihe von Videos erstellt, die sich speziell an Einsteiger im Einhandsegeln und an potenzielle Schärensegler richten. Und diesen dabei helfen soll, ihren eigenen Stil zu finden. Denn mit Sicherheit hat jeder Segler sein eigenes Rezept und so sind diese Videos auch nicht als Lehrvideos zu verstehen, sondern nur als Anregungen. Jedes Boot und jeder Mensch ist anders. Ich bin mit diesen Methoden jedenfalls einhand heil durch über einhundert Häfen und fünfzig Schleusen gekommen. Aber auch für Segler, die mit Crew unterwegs sind, kann es nicht schaden sich auch einmal mit Einhandmanövern zu beschäftigen. Man kann ja nie wissen, in was für Situationen man gerät. Aus Zeitgründen, und da es alles andere als einfach ist sich bei den Einhandmanövern auch noch selbst zu filmen, sind die Elemente teils etwas wild zusammengeschnitten und wackelig. Geben aber damit auch gut die zeitkritischen Situationen an Bord wieder und sind auch noch vollkommen kostenlos. Ich bitte von prinzipieller Kritik an den Manövern abzusehen. Es geht immer anders und sicher auch besser. Auch haben manche Boote Aussenborder, Langkiele, siond sehr breit oder haben ein hohes Freibord, so das diese Basismanöver eigentlich für alle zutreffen sollten. Die vielen spezielleren Tipps mit Hilfsleinen zum Eindampfen etc. funktionieren aber eben nicht mit allen Booten! Alternative Vorschläge sind als Kommentar aber natürlich sehr willkommen. Aber diese sollten dann auch, in der Praxis selbst erprobt, einhandtauglich sein. Denn Theorie und Praxis unterscheiden sich einhand bei etwas Wind gerne extrem. Und so mancher gute Plan erwies sich als nicht praktikabel. Sollte mir ein Vorschlag aber gut gefallen und funktionieren, werde ich ihn ebenfalls auf Video bringen und hier ergänzend hinzufügen. Bat Island in Costa Rica is known for large marine life and large schools of fish. Did see a manta ray and several large schools of fish. My friend saw a bull shark. Very rough diving with low visibility and strong currents. Almost an hour boat ride to the dive site, but fortunately the seas were calm.

We had a smooth day trip (starting under engine but later beautifully tacking along) over to Roatan, Tom got his work done amd we explored the island a bit. Time is flying like usual and it is already time for Tom to head back to Guatemala and I have to grove myself back into solo sailing. Enjoy & ahoy, Nike & Karl

Before crossing the Indian Ocean the crew sat down to figure out a route and game plan. We needed to get from Asia to Africa, avoiding the worst of the weather and making the most of the monsoon season and trade winds. So, we sat down with two very old school technologies. Our large scale paper chart of the Indian Ocean and the pilot charts compiled from years and years of observations. We had a little discussion, weighed our options, and made a decision as a crew. It was a lot of fun and we learned something. Hope you do as well :) We are planning a little series on how we look at and plan for weather so hope you enjoy this first of many!
