Our dinghy gets stolen in Mexico, leading to a police hunt by boat through the mangroves to try to track her down. Just before she gets taken, Makara takes us on a great adventure in Bahía Santa Maria, exploring a local fish camp where they are fishing for sharks to harvest their fins and meat. Then, we sail by some humpbacks and into Puerto San Carlos for New Years Eve. After the dinghy incident, we decide to lift our spirits by sailing up into the uncharted mangroves of Magdalena Bay, spearfishing and having a beach bonfire. Today we take that scary step of putting a saw to our deck. Teak has been removed, screws removed, tapping revealed de-lamination or rot and it is now time to cut that sucker open and see what we find. This may be the scariest thing I have done with a boat yet! Follow along in this series as we inspect the core, make determinations and repair it.
