Subscribe for more sailing videos: https://goo.gl/CxeBQ8 Wow, can't believe that last December our friends on PATREON, YouTube and Facebook started to suggest Canada via Japan as a destination, and now we're going there. We looked into it, did some research and a bit more research, and realised it could be quite an adventure... So it's goodbye to shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops, and hello to foul weather gear, jumpers and boots! Now we have to prepare SY Esper for a long, long trip, and get her in the best possible condition. She's being re-rigged in July/August. Then there are lots of safety additions we need to make, as well as comms etc. We also need to add a hard dodger which can be fully enclosed and a heating system. Getting to Japan is the hardest bit of the passage plan. Weather, currents, monsoons, typhoons and piracy are all obstacles we need to work round. The original idea of avoiding the Philippines and going straight to Hong Kong has been thrown out (at the moment) because it is a long, arduous uphill struggle. So the next option is to head back to Tioman, Perhentians and Anambas, then round the top of Borneo. After that, to drop down to Sulawesi before heading to the southwestern corner of the Philippines where we will cruise until the wind changes for our trip north to Japan. VERY rough timings: 2019 May - Tioman/Redang/Perhentians June - Anambas/Natuna/Kuching July - Borneo/Brunei August - Borneo September - Sulawesi November - Philippiines 2020 Apr/May - Okinawa/Yokohama July - Leave Japan for Alaska/Canada We will be posting videos about our plans as they unfold. Episode 15 Ricky receives our new hatch in the mail, we take out the diesel tanks to see the condition they were in. We show you how our new inspection hatch by our cockpit looks. We also change our outside access hatches in our port and starboard aft cabins. We start drilling the holes to run our PVC piping for our electrical wiring. We also paint our inspection hatch in our cockpit. We started applying the primer to the yacht! She already looks so much better! Ricky took our backup cable steering to get repaired as the swage had been cracked. Ricky & I also went to go get some sushi for our Saturday dinner. It was delicious & we have a lovely Sunday with my grandparents! Ricky also built a laminating sandwich press. We took a trip to the appliance store to buy our freezer and fridge and then started filling up the imperfections on the hull so we can start painting our primary paint. We measure our rigging so we can start getting our new rigging done. We went for dinner and a few beers at the yacht club as they have closed down, its the end of an old era but the start of a new one. Thanks for watching and the support! Lanzarote laid on superb conditions for day two of the RC44 Calero Marinas Cup under brilliant sunshine and winds that started in the sub-10 range before building solidly into the 20s, making for a spectacular action-packed third and final race.  Torbjörn Törnqvist’s Artemis Racing claimed the opening race after tactician Andy Horton correctly called the favourable left side of the course, just as he did in yesterday’s first race. Conditions had built for race two which turned into a heavyweight bout between Vladimir Prosikhin’s Team Nika and Nico Poons’ Charisma. Nika led around the first lap but Charisma had edged ahead by the end of the second beat and maintained their lead to the finish. Pundits noted that the match racing between the two boats may have been fuelled by some rivalry between the tacticians– former Emirates Team New Zealand skipper Dean Barker calling the shots on Team Nika and his former tactician Ray Davies in this position on Charisma.  The RC44 Calero Marinas Cup will take place over 28 February until 4 March and will pit the world's top businessmen and the best sailors in the industry compete in high-performance one-design 44-foot carbon racing yachts. Picking up a new crew member in Puerto Vallarta, we set out with friends to escape the craziness of the city to the island of birds, AKA Isla Isabel, or Mexico’s Galapagos. The 2018 Camden Classics Cup, now in its third year, is a two-day regatta that opens the classic racing season in Maine. The Cup is followed by Classics Week, a week of destination racing to and from Castine and the outer islands; youth sailing; music, fine arts and film centered on the picturesque waterfront of Camden, Maine. It’s a perfect week of racing, cruising and serious camaraderie. Camden Classics Cup dates are July 26-28. Classics Week wraps up Friday, August 3rd.

Our Atlantic Crossing now takes us from Lanzarote to the beautiful island of Gran Canaria which is to be the final stop before heading to Barbados. With no passage plan and very little care for when we arrive our thoughts are becoming increasingly troubled. I calculate that with a 96nm passage we will arrive in the early hours and in total darkness. For me this is worrying, not only because Las Palmas is a very busy shipping port, but because our Skippers abilities when manoeuvring the boat are questionable in daylight, let alone attempting to dock in the dark. We do safely pick out way through the cargo traffic and we do manage to moor alongside the reception pontoon with little effort, but I was holding my breath on numerous occasions, just waiting for something to go wrong. Las Palmas is a great place, and we are lucky enough to see the 2018 Gran Canaria marathon, with all the razzmatazz you would expect, with street bands, dancing and performing artists. Our enjoyment here is overshadowed though by our increasing anxiety towards the way the boat is being run, and sometime soon we have to ask ourselves ‘ can we trust these people to carry us safely over this huge expanse of water to arrive in one piece on the other side? When constructing a homemade Chameleon nesting dinghy, you reach a point when you must literally saw it in half. That time is now. So with the help of my lovely assistant, I reluctantly take a saw to the object that I've, up to this point, invested over 139 hours into. After an hour of sawing, I was able to separate the 2 halves - but not without a bit of a fight. You see, I built the dinghy so well that even though it was literally sawn in 2, it still refused to part with itself. From there I continue with the build process by making a really stupid mistake that I must correct. I'll show you the mistake, and how I went about making it right. Thanks for watching!! Isbjorn departs Bermuda on the second leg of our summer 2017 Atlantic crossing, first across the starting line of ARC Europe. We had some of the heaviest weather of Isbjorn's tenure with us, but also some of the nicest spinnaker sailing. The passage took 12 days, and we only motored for 15 hours in total!

Bruntons SigmaDrive is a brand new 21st Century solution that provides effective anti-noise and anti-vibration solutions of the highest order. What makes SigmaDrive different is it's ability to resist propeller thrust when installed as a standalone coupling, directly from the shaft to the output flange on the engine’s transmission. It reduces and even eliminates vibrations that originate from an imperfect alignment between the propeller shaft and the engine, compensating for up to 3 degrees in all directions. This system can also be installed using thrust bearings so that the engine can be placed utilizing the space available ergonomically. Andy Lamont interviews Mike Sabin about his lifetime of adventures on the water. Mikes a boat builder, sail maker, has been a coastal patrol pilot and has sailed every part of the Australian coastline. At age 40 Mike sold everything and headed off in his new yacht 'Sly Fox' for 5 years of sailing and adventure all over the world, including sailing to Europe, where he removed his mast and spent 2 months cruising the German and French canals.
