I have found a new air vent at Biltema and it is almost 100% identical to the original model from Bavaria. The reason I don't buy a original is due to I hope the one from Biltema is a bit better quality than the one from Bavaria.

Building a cruising sailboat It's all about cladding the lazarette hatch cover this week - I thought I'd concentrate on one particular piece of this week's build. The hatch is clad with thin strip planks of black locust, epoxy glued to the sub structure. This video shows the entire process, step by step. At the end of this video, the piece is nearing completion, just needing a final fill, a coat of epoxy and some varnish. Looking good!  The SV Tapatya challenge coin is available from; http://www.svseeker.com/wp/product/tapatya-coin/ All proceeds go to the SV Tapatya sail fund Music tracks "Sit and Wonder" and "The Great Divide" available on iTunes, Amazon etc. EP "Shake a Leg" and album "Out of the Moloch" All music from these videos is available from: https://ynotb.bandcamp.com/album/the-sv-tapatya-tracks If you like what you see, leave a tip in the Tips Jar; http://www.svtapatya.com/the-tips-jar.html Follow the build, along with the story of my first cruising adventure (The Miss Molly I Adventures) on my website; http://www.svtapatya.com Support the build, the vlog, the blog and the writing on; https://www.patreon.com/sv_tapatya Or follow me on Instagram for various shots of my boating life; https://www.instagram.com/sv.tapatya This is the story of my building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk-rigged, schooner dory. The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. The keel and rudder are fitted shortly before launch. Thank you! Tony

Episode 4 -Whether it be cruising on a sailing boat or a motor cruiser, it just doesn’t matter, just do something you love. In this episode we speak with Kym from “Miss McKinlay”, who is cruising the Queensland coast on a beautiful 48ft Clipper Cordova, who talks with us about life on board with husband Craig and Hudson, the dog. We chat about how they chose the breed of dog they did and why. Kym has also completed a few courses to assist her with driving the boat and radio skills, which we discuss. We have a tour of the fly deck and main living areas and discuss what features Kym loves about their boat . What camera gear do we use? Flying across the pond and touching down in Sweden, our Hobie guys are on the hunt for monster pike. Follow along as we get our feet wet kayak fishing on Lake Edslan and navigate Lake Vanern, the third largest lake in Europe. Littered with rocks, reefs, pinnacles, islands and shallow bays, this vast lake has a little bit of everything. Crystal clear water and its sheer size make this body of water feel more like an inland sea than a lake. Check out the episode and see if our guys can hook some meter+ long fish! #hobiefishing #pike #kayakfishing ____________________________ Check out more Hobie Outdoor Adventures Seasons and Episodes: https://www.hobie.com/hobie-outdoor-adventures/ Learn more about the Mirage Pro Angler 12: https://www.hobie.com/kayaks/mirage-pro-angler-12/ Check out the H-Rail Rod Holder here: https://www.hobie.com/accessories/h-rail/ Follow us on Social: https://www.facebook.com/hobiefishing/ https://www.instagram.com/hobiefishing/

As underdogs we inevitably spent a lot of time fighting the tide and hilariously crashing very slowly in to our fellow competitors. Who knew sailboat racing could be so much fun! With thanks to the Royal Engineer and Medway Cruising Clubs for organising the Mary Cup race which took place in September 2019.

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. 2019 saw France experience its hottest June since records began. The French media dubbed it "an extreme weather event" a "killer heatwave" & warned people to stay indoors. We however had no choice than to motor through it and try to find some respite from the ever increasing temperatures on our boat. The conditions are insane and with no AC, we are suffering. So, crazy as it may seem, I go for a spear and see lots of big fish that are too big to shoot but I get onto one that is just right with a bit of a plan that actually works....a first for the vlog something that I thought up actually worked. I have dinner sorted so I then play hide and seek with the wildlife. I lose track of time in the water, pretty common for me (sometimes I lose 8 hours in the water wooohoooo), but get wiken out of my reverie by a bolt of lightning. I look up and see a storm bearing down on me so it is time to skiddadle and get the flock out of here but it is a bit tricky because the light has gone and I need to get through the reef and then I need to get back into the storm to get back to my boat. These storms can blow up to 60 knots and it is not a good feeling to be outside the reef being blown further out at sea when I should be back at the boat. It's a race and I make it by about 5 minutes - plenty of time. But the show is not over, the cell turns into and electrical storm and I have lightning all around me for hours with a few really close calls. It's all good - until its not and in the end it's all ok. Bloody let down really. If I was lightning, I would hit the tallest thing in the area. Margarida is arriving soon and the boat is a mess, well not really a mess according to guys but to Margarida it's a pig sty so lots of cleaning to be done to make it like the last porridge - just right but another storm threatens to stuff up my washing schedule so I need to get the clothes and cushions in before it hits. A huge thank you to those who help keep our boat afloat by supporting our creative process via Patreon. You can be part of the crew for less than the price of a coffee. https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis The Captains sailing log - we lost our floating home We have just returned from a trip to Mana Island, close to Musket Cove, in The Mamanuca chain of islands, here in the west of Fiji. While we were there we reminisced about an incident that occurred to us, just of the Northern tip of the island back in October of 2015. This incident so nearly ended in disaster for us, Javelot and our two guests, Rachel's sisters, who had just joined us aboard that morning. We weren't making vlogs back then, but we thought we would share this cautionary tale from the Captains log with you now. Music Cricket Farm - Bending Spoons DJ Quads - Running David Mumford - Ball and Chain Who are we? In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill Never stop wandering, never stop wondering. #TheCruisingKiwis
