Vier Regattatage, drei AC-Teams, zwei Rennformate, ein Segelevent der Extraklasse: Der German Sailing Grand Prix wurde im August 2006 in Kiel von den Americas Cup-Syndikaten BMW ORACLE Racing (USA), Team Shosholoza (Südafrika) und dem deutschen United Internet Team Germany in Fleet- und Matchraces ausgetragen. Zum ersten Mal in der 155-Jährigen Geschichte der ältesten Sporttrophäe der Welt trafen damit drei der Herausforderer in Deutschland zu einem Wettkampf aufeinander.
Im August 2008 boten zehn Riesen-Katamarane mitten auf der Kieler Innenförde mitreißende Wettfahrten und Top-Segelsport zum Anfassen. Mit rund 70.000 Zuschauern feierte der iShares Cup eine glanzvolle Premiere in Kiel und machte deutlich wie Segeln für das Publikum attraktiv präsentiert werden kann.
