We landed in Makemo in May and visited 5 other atolls, Kauehi, Fakarava (great night shark dive in the south pass), Toau, Apataki (huge surf) and the biggest atoll Rangiroa. Then we were in the societies (Tahiti, Huahine, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Maupiti and Maupihaa) which was a nice blend of atoll and island. Maupiti was our favourite place. Then we went to Swarrow, a nature reserve with 2 resident rangers in the Cook Islands. Then we went to the island country of Niue with unlimited underwater visibility, pristine coral, baby humpback whales, caverns and chasms. Breathtaking! From there, we traveled to Neiafu (with dozens of protected anchorages), Pangai in the Haipai region and Nuku’alofa, all 3 regions in Tonga. Next was Minerva Reef for 20 hours before we embarked on the notorious passage to NZ. ​The Arnavon Islands consist of four small islands located in the Manning Strait between Isabel and Choiseul Province, Solomon Islands. The Islands are home to the largest rookery of the critically endangered hawksbill turtles in the South Pacific region. This rookery was heavily exploited from the 1800s, and by the early 1990s populations here were in dramatic decline. In 1995 the Arnavon Community Marine Conservation area was established in partnership with government and the communities of Kia, Katupika and Waghena to protect the remaining hawksbill turtle population and the areas unique flora and fauna. This was the first protected area to be established in Solomon Islands and it encompasses 40,000 acres of land and sea. We spend a week with the Rangers watching them work and helping when possible. George Dog Island, a destination on our BVI Sailing cruise, is an uninhabited island well worth a visit. Snorkel from your boat anchorge over to the island. We saw more sea creatures in this snorkel than we've seen on some of the scuba dives. Great place for a picnic lunch (if you can keep it dry). Not many places to easily pull a dinghy on shore, so plan on swimming in!

While in British Virgin Islands, we visited Maya Cove. We anchored the boat and went snorkeling and beach combing. Post Hurricane, new coral was growing as far as we could see. In all of our years scuba diving, this was the first time we saw new growth coral. It was amazingly beautiful and healthy looking.

To get to the Bubbly Pool, you need to hike along a scenic trail for about 1/2 mile. Try to plan a visit when the waves are NOT coming out of the north!
