In this episode I go on an awesome adventure paragliding the remote cliff of Fazayah bay in Oman. The whole bay is surrounded by vertical cliffs up to 700 meters high, and provides an awesome opportunity to fly. It was not easy getting information on this spot so paragliding there was a huge adventure. This is the video giving you the low down. For any questions or comments don't hesitate to get in touch!! Do Subscribe to my channel for more travel and adventure sports videos, both in Qatar and abroad. I really enjoy getting to know new people from around the world this way. A huge thank you to those who help keep our boat afloat by supporting our creative process via Patreon. You can be part of the crew for less than the price of a coffee. https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis Sailing while paradise burns On February 20th 2016 Fiji was hit by Cyclone Winston. This was a category five cyclone with wind speeds up to 280kmh (175mph). Winston was the strongest tropical cyclone to ever hit the South Pacific basin with devastating effects. Amazingly only 44 people lost their life. We are in Delaconi village, the gateway to the beautiful bay of islands, this is the first time on our trip through the east of Fiji that we have seen the damage that Winston wrought. We are very proud that the New Zealand government and her Navy had come to the aid of the people who live here. We are also blown away by the beauty of The Bay of Islands and its turquoise water ways. And to top it all off, before we leave the incredible Lau group, we are having a bonfire with friends. A lovely way to finish off our journey through the east of Fiji. Music Cricket Farm – Bending Spoons David Mumford – Be back soon Olympus – Epic and dramatic trailer music Who are we? In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. ***** Find us on Facebook – The Cruising Kiwis Instagram – @thecruisingkiwis @declan_hamill @finn_hamill Never stop wandering, never stop wondering. #TheCruisingKiwis
This week we share the rest of our journey on the island La Gomera, Canary Islands. We had very expensive Gins in a Lah-deh-Dah-Upmarket establishment, turned down a cramped Marina and landed up with the longest dinghy ride, and even visited 2 Churches in one day. La Gomera is an amazing colorful island in the Canaries, and sooooo well worth the visit. Thank you for all our subscribers! We finally got the fishing rod holders installed on the way to Gibraltar and we caught some fish! The first ones were too small and we threw them back. But then Lisa landed a nice Mahi Mahi. For those who do not know, Lisa is the one keen to fish and sets up the rods and makes the lures. Pierre is the best for gaffing the fish, once it is near the boat. Music from Epidemic Sound. You've seen the raw video of the USA Sailing Team Nacra 17 sailors Ravi Parent and Caroline Atwood, so now hear how that epic pitchpole unfolded during their first 20 minutes of training in Auckland, New Zealand ahead of the World Championships.
Let's look in depth at out yacht anchoring technique step by step, the anchoring technique we use everytime to ensure we're holding firm and won't drag. It's our tried and tested technique that has so far safely got us around the world for over 20,000 nautical miles without once dragging. We look at our trusty Rocna anchor, look at scope - how much anchor to put out - pulling back to test the anchor, using transit lines to check hold, use of an anchor snubber, and more. If you have any other tips and tricks for anchoring, we'd love to hear them in the comments below! - - Music acknowledgements - - Intro: Almost Famous Band - Mas que nada (Cover) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please support us to help inspire others to live their dreams, become a Patron at www.patreon.com/SailingTranquilo Patrons receive - more frequent videos - extended videos - free gifts Visit our website for more information about our trip and our yacht: http://www.tranquilo.me Check out our latest sailing around the world photos on Instagram and Facebook: Instagram: @sailing_tranquilo (http://instagram.com/sailing_tranquilo) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tranquilo.me

Our main November boat video is an unusual Maurice Griffiths design. His 1960's Leeboard Waterwitch Mk II is commonly known as a 'Barge Boat' and once you've watched the video - you'll see why. Jeff spent time along the waterfront side of the Baltimore TrawlerFest venue and Elle Conwell filmed him doing a "Dock Walk and Talk" video. Visiting the vendors in the tents and walking down on the docks gives you get a good feel for the action, the boats and the people. We didn’t have time to stop and talk with everyone we know, but Jeff did run into some of his colleagues in the industry for some brief conversations. Special thanks to the following people for their participation in this film: Craig Parkhurst of Wheelhouse Technology Ryan Davidson of AIM Media (PassageMaker and TrawlerFest) Vin Petrella of YBAA (Yacht Brokers Association of America) John Knudsen for a quick cameo appearance and Jon Rotenberg of Eastern Yacht Sales We hope you enjoy this short video. We are working on two more Baltimore videos (for a total of three). One has some TrawlerTours where we get on some of the trawlers and the other video will show some footage from the seminar classrooms.
