Lucky us, he just so happened to have one of the most rare, custom and fastest catamarans on the water for sale. It's a used Schionning and if you've never heard of it, you're not alone! These unique performance cats are more common in the southern hemisphere. But even still, there are only about five on the market worldwide right now. We have a lot of repairs to do on our salvaged Beneteau 49 - but the yard the boat is at doesn't allow DIY repairs......or our dogs. Which means the very first step is to launch the boat and get ready to motor our project somewhere else. This was a nerve wracking ordeal, considering we only took possession of the boat the day before and were still unsure of just how extensive the damage was. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Es ist endlich soweit! Die erste Bootssuche nach dem perfekt passenden Katamaran steht an! Wir suchen gemeinsam mit Beat nach seinem zukünftigen Kat mit dem er um die Welt segeln wird. Er ist passionierter Taucher, filmt seine Abenteuer und braucht wegen des vielen Equipments ordentlich Stauraum. Außerdem soll auch seine Familie zeitweise dabei sein, also müssen ausreichend freie Kabinen zur Verfügung stehen. Gleichzeitig darf das Schiff auch nicht zu groß werden, um immer noch Einhand bedienbar zu sein. Beat kam mit ziemlich genauen Vorstellungen zu uns. Genauer gesagt, hat er sich den Leopard 48 mit Frontcockpit sehr gut vorstellen können. Wir sind im Beratungsgespräch u.A. die Vor- und Nachteile des Modells durchgegangen und haben uns darauf geeinigt, ein Exemplar zu besichtigen, damit wir uns live ein Bild machen können, ob es das richtige für ihn ist. Wir haben allerdings angebracht, dass der Leo schon sehr massig und voluminös ist, worunter natürlich die Segeleigenschaften leiden. Also sind wir zusätzlich auf die Suche gegangen nach einem anderen Typ Katamaran. Einem Typ, der etwas besser segelt, aber trotzdem viel Komfort und Raum bietet. Und da sind wir in Athen auf den Fountaine Pajot Salina 48 gestoßen. Unserer Meinung nach ein sehr guter Kompromiss zwischen guten Segeleigenschaften und Wohnraum. Diese beiden Segelboote vergleichen wir also und schauen gemeinsam, wofür sich Beat am meisten begeistern lässt. Denn er möchte diese Saison endlich ein Segelboot kaufen und seine Reise starten. The Crealock 37' was inducted into the Sailing Hall of Fame in 2002. She's been the benchmark for world cruisers for 33 years and rightfully so. When you step aboard a Pacific Seacraft, it is obvious why they have the excellent reputation that they do. There are substantial bulwarks with a heavy teak cap rail. The teak joints are hand fitted with butterfly joints. The 30" high, double lifeline stanchions are mounted on the bulwarks to resist moisture intrusion into the deck. The deck hardware is all larger than found on most vessels and is all chrome plated solid bronze- nothing but the best. The list goes on and on, reinforcing with every item the quality, strength and safety crafted into every boat. Ferenc Mate devoted an entire chapter in his book 'The Worlds' Best Sailboats', to Pacific Seacraft and stated ‘All the Crealock creations are aesthetically sophisticated, ideally proportioned and some of the best handling, most sea kindly boats in the world’. Zheel Bear has been lovingly maintained by her owners and they part with her sadly, as she has fared them well and protected them over the years. They are now looking to move up to a larger boat. Zheel Bear's condition is certainly above average and reflects the care she has been shown. The Formosa 68' (70' LOA) sure is an interesting design and a HUGE boat. This particular boat was purchased and worked on Pre-Hurricane Irma, but when the hurricane hit the boat sustained a little damage to the genoa furler. It's been sitting in it's slip since. She needs deck work, rigging work, and a lot of interior work as well. The deadwood shaped in the last episode is capped with a wormshoe. The wormshoe is a protective sacrificial piece that can be replaced if it is ever damaged from running aground or any similar mishap. Sailing brings people together in the most wonderful ways, and can help you to live in the NOW! After a week and nearly 1,100 nm sailed the crew is in the zone. We've fallen into a healthy cycle of sleep, eat, watch, and repeat. We've shared stories and intimate moments, laughs and meals. And so it's a very bitter-sweet moment when we realize we have less than 1 day until we arrive in Panama. We make the most of it by hoisting our giant down wind sails on our dual-pole setup. It goes smoothly until a mishap with timing on our fore guy brings the pole flying back ad Jade's head and gives her a good whack. She powers through and we ice her down, and the reward is the amazing display of flying both head sails powering Delos dead downwind. We have an incredible afternoon of sailing and douse sails just before we're hit by a line of squalls at night. The crew reflects on what an amazing passage it's been and how much (or how little) we're looking forward to exploring Panama! Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made.
