UPDATE: We have had a very good experience with the Ultra anchor in the 5 years we used it. The anchor always set well and did not degrade in any way in that time, a good advertisement for stainless steel under water… as long as it’s the right sort of SS and the anchor is 318 and 316L which are both excellent. Sadly the swivel is not the best metal being 316Ti and it corroded badly once we got to the warm waters of the Caribbean so we had to stop using it. We also had a problem with the swivel pin backing out which may have been a function of the movement it got slung under the bowsprit, I’m not sure. But we were very unhappy with the attitude of Ultra Marine West (unfortunate as the guys in Europe had been super helpful) so we decided to switch to using Mantus equipment which so far we are very happy with. There's no doubt that your anchor is one of the most important items on your boat and it's one of the most overlooked. There have been huge advances in anchor technology so would you benefit from a more modern anchor? Well that really depends on the anchor you have and the cruising you intend to do, but getting it wrong could end very badly! We had a lot to do in order to get ready for the steaming of the frames. We cut the frame sockets as well as milled up all the framing stock, and just in time. Upon coming back into reception we see northerly winds have well and truely set in, but for the next few days they are looking light, we thought of using the opportunity of light winds to motor into them towards Magnetic Island because YES, although cyclone season is on the horizon, WE PLAN to continue north. Though, it's been a while since we have refuelled and upon sticking a dip stick into the fuel tanks we realise we don't have enough fuel to do that...back to the original plan of heading towards the mainland. We have beautiful day sail until we begin seeing storm clouds developing over the land as approach Gloucester Passage...little did we know this would be the beginning of a few days of storms. Each storm brewing to deliver the mother of all storms...A super cell was moving up the coast on its way towards us, on anchor on our small sailboat. This monster of a storm brought with it 70 knots gusts, a ripper lightning show and even managed to pick up our inflatable tender from the water and plonk it onto the decks... NIGHT SQUALL!!!!! On day 9 of a 1,400 mile passage we get hit in the middle of the night by a massive squall! The wind is hitting a solid 45 knots and the rain is driven so hard it’s blinding us. We accidentally jibe, take a wave in the salon hatch, and it takes all hands on Deck to get Delos under control and properly reefed as we cruise down the waves making over 14 knots. That pretty much sums up life in the ITC ZED…. The next day we sight land and sail Delos into the jungle rivers of French Guyana. Warning for some bloody footage in this episode but it's not too bad. We left Grenada with Privateer, a Nautor Swan 60, to sail in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We had some really awesome sailing up to Union Island and we sailed over the underwater volcano Kick'em Jenny. Chatham Bay was a lovely place and anchorage but little did we know that the plans would change drastic when Malin got a 10 kg heavy hatch that fell on her big toe. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us. Regardless of our negative Covid-19 tests, all passengers from the #repatriation flight are being treated and held in quarantine as if we have the virus.  It feels extreme but we also understand.  Viruses on these small, underdeveloped, and very remote islands are devastating.  So, the Tongan Government is taking every precaution...and then some. We’ve landed on the main island of Nuku'alofa where we’ll stay for our 21 days of government monitored quarantine.  Then we catch a cargo ship to Vava’u Tonga to see Curiosity for the first time in a year!  I still have to pinch myself every time I say it because it seems too good to be true:  We're Finally Home! Madagascar is just one of those places that continues to blow us away! Our friend Rudy drew up a map of one of his favorite spots, which is just a short sail across the bay. We decide to go on an adventure in search of a holy tree, a water fall, and a village supposed to have lemurs and a massive tortoise. Our mission takes us to a small island called Nosoy Momoko where not only do we find everything promised but the locals are having a boat launching ceremony where it takes the entire village to pull it into the water. This cliché mantra always passes through my mind as I attempt to solve a problem that I'm not qualified to fix. But that's sailing life! Things break and there's no magic repair technician there to help you troubleshoot the vast array of issues that inevitably come up on a sailboat. Fortunately, this time I'm prepared. Our fridge has been dying a slow death and today it finally decides to crap-out. The saving grace: We have 2 cooler sized fridge-freezers on board. That's right, 2 backups for this exact issue. Now I can procrastinate repairing the fridge and go for a snorkel instead. Ahhhh, gotta love saving today's problems for tomorrow. It's OK, future you will sort it out...one day. If you're not interested in Sailboat Issues like our refrigerator dying in the tropics feel free to skip ahead. The drone footage of our stunning anchorage here in Moorea starts at 06:11 then we dive into the best snorkeling we've experienced here in French Polynesia. Before we even leave the shadow of our catamaran we're free-diving 50 feet down to say hi to a couple of eagle rays, a sting ray and a black-tip shark. The water is cool and crystal clear and the underwater creatures are beautiful. Jubilee is no longer for sale by JMYS. Jubilee is a 2007 George Buehler designed 41’ Diesel Duck 382 built to yacht standards by Sea Horse Marine, Zhuhai, China. She is a full displacement steel passage maker with a single diesel engine and a sail assist/get home balanced rig with roller furling jib, roller furling main, boomless main with traveler bar control and 4 Harken winches. Jubilee is a slightly smaller version of the popular Diesel Duck 462. At 41′, it is a 3/4 version of the Diesel Duck 462. It is 10′ shorter and one foot narrower. There are subtle modifications in dimensions measuring a foot here and there. Both models have the same size master stateroom bed, the 382 has narrower walk around. The biggest difference is that the 382 has one head forward with a separate shower. The 462 has an additional head and shower in the owner’s cabin. She is seaworthy, livable and affordable. If your cruising goals include unlimited travel in comfort with the dependability of diesel propulsion combined with the reliability of sail, please take a close look at the details included in this incredible trawler. She is meticulously maintained, lightly used and completely equipped for world cruising. She would also be a fine vessel for doing the popular “Great Loop”. For the last 4 years she has been cruising the Great Lakes and stored each winter in a heated facility. The Seahorse Diesel Duck series are built in anticipation of long range ocean voyaging where any type of weather could be encountered. All large window frames, i.e., the pilothouse windows, are tapped and gasketed for storm shutters as standard. There are four hatches; one each over the forward and aft cabins and two over the saloon. These are heavy duty aluminum manufactured to ship standards with stainless steel lockdown handles. Jubilee has (11) opening port holes in the hull built to the same ship standards with heavy grade aluminum and glass. Each has two stainless steel screw down seals including a screw down heavy aluminum “dead light (cover)” which can be dogged down water tight if necessary. After fixing all the holes on the deck of our abandoned sailboat, it's time to assemble our ceiling back together!!
