Here in Long Beach, CA at Alamitos Bay Marina we have a boat auction twice per year. Come with me and watch people bid on sailboats and power boats. This time the bidding goes nuts; some boats sell for a lot and some don't get a bid at all even though the opening bid at the auction for "boats in the water" is only $400. These boats are usually in pretty bad shape but this time there was one sailboat, a Cal 46, that was in really good condition and the selling price was on par. Last auction a lot of sailboats didn't get a bid or sold for very cheap but this auction was different because more sailboats sold at this auction. This was a fun boat auction to watch but the inventory was a little low if you ask me. Imagine jumping into a 12,000 foot deep pool... Only you are in the middle of an ocean and being towed under sail! The conditions are absolutely perfect and Delos is a few hundred miles off shore just drifting along in light winds and calm seas. We decide to show the crew a PERFECT DAY AT SEA :) First off we decide to take the girls up the mast and show them first hand the amazing feeling of being aloft while under full sail. Then I have one of my best ideas ever. With conditions ideal we stop for a mid-ocean swim. With sails deployed all the toys come out and we have a surreal experience flying along under water like Manta Rays in the deep dark blue.
