🌴 Bienvenue sur l’atoll de Mopélia, notre dernière escale en Polynésie française. Nous sommes au sud de l’atoll, à l’abri d’un fort vent du sud. Les maisons sont désertes et seuls six habitants vivent encore au nord de l'atoll. Au sud, notre seule compagnie : une petite chienne qui refuse de partir. Elle vit seule depuis plus d’un an, sait se débrouiller et reçoit de la nourriture des navigateurs. Harry, un habitant, vient aussi la voir de temps en temps. Le sud se situe à 8 km à pied ou 30 min en bateau. ⚓ Vie à bord : je cuisine un poisson cru au lait de coco avec le thon que nous avons pêché lors de notre voyage depuis Maupiti et je vous partage ma recette. Maladroite avec une boîte de conserve, je me coupe un doigt ! Tom devient infirmier, et je ne pourrai pas me baigner pendant plusieurs jours… 💡 Question pour vous : Que fait Tom dans un mouillage paradisiaque ? Autrefois, une trentaine de personnes vivaient sur l’atoll, principalement grâce à la récolte du coprah, la noix de coco séchée pour faire de l’huile. Aujourd’hui, il n’y a plus assez d’habitants pour récolter suffisamment de coprah, et le bateau ravitailleur ne passe plus. Ce sont donc les navigateurs de passage qui livrent les colis et transportent parfois les habitants depuis Maupiti. Petite parenthèse : nous avions contacté les familles des habitants depuis Maupiti pour savoir s’ils avaient besoin de colis. Harry était à Maupiti et a fait le trajet avec une famille française sur un catamaran, avec un peu plus de confort que notre petit Vagabond. Le vent s’est calmé… Nous sommes maintenant mouillés au nord de l’atoll, où nous faisons la rencontre d’Adrienne, sa fille Feimanu et le petit Teunu, 3 ans. Marcello, le mari d’Adrienne, est resté à Maupiti pour un contrôle de santé, et Feimanu n’a plus de mari. Feimanu et Adrienne nous font visiter leur jardin, c’est incroyable tout ce qu’elles arrivent à faire pousser ici ! 25 personnes des bateaux sont invitées pour un délicieux repas. This CNB 66, 'Salty Moments', designed by Philippe Briand and built by Construction Navale Bordeaux, is a semi-custom cruising yacht that perfectly combines performance and luxury. CNB yachts are renowned for their striking design, exceptional build quality, and outstanding sailing performance, and 'Salty Moments' is a shining example. Our dream dinghy has turned out to be not so dreamy. We analyzed and rated our top 4 dinghies in past episodes and chose the UP340 from Ultralight Performance (UP) Boats. At the time we thought it was the best dinghy for us. We ordered it in July 2023 with a delivery date of December 2023. However, through various issues, our UP340 was not delivered until April 2025, over 16 months behind schedule. We were patient and explained away the constant delays thinking that any design improvements would benefit us. Imagine our disappointment when our UP340 arrived with a structural crack in the transom. Promises of a replacement from UP Boats faded away with the company. The last we heard was that UP Boats was going through restructuring with some external investors which was to be completed in September 2025. It is now November 2025, UP Boats have vacated their shop and no one has heard a response. I have to assume at this point that UP Boats are no more. Now we have to make this work, first on the list is to repair the transom crack. We should have paid the extra money for Offshore Cruising Tender (OCT) from the beginning. In our videos, we explained why we chose the UP340 from UP Boats, LLC, based in Opa Locka, Florida. It met all our criteria and was proudly made in the USA. Unfortunately, our UP340 arrived 14 months late and already showed visible damage while still on the delivery truck. The damage turned out to be structural, and we immediately reported it to UP Boats, LLC. Despite having shipping insurance and receiving repeated assurances that a replacement would be provided, none ever arrived. As of July 10, 2025, all communication with UP Boats, LLC has ceased. It now appears that UP Boats, LLC is no longer in operation. Numerous complaints and legal actions have been filed by other buyers, indicating we are not alone in this experience. A quick online search for UP Boats reveals a troubling pattern. We will soon be posting videos on this channel detailing the problems we encountered with our damaged UP340 and the steps we had to take to make it marginally seaworthy. In hindsight, the cost savings from purchasing the UP340 do not justify the compromises we faced. We would have been far better off investing in a proven, high-quality Offshore Cruising Tender such as the OCT 350. *** End of Read ***

A beautiful sailing passage with Rubicon3. Departing Vigo, Spain and stopping at Baiona, Spain before sailing offshore to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. A total of 1100 nautical miles. We were in S/Y Bluejay, a 60 ft Clipper Yacht, and were a crew of 12, including our amazing skipper and first mate. A first proper ocean passage for me and I loved it. All weathers from flat calm to gale force 9. Our fantastic crew worked so well together; sailing, cooking, cleaning, navigating, enjoying music, poetry and conversation. Lots of fun and laughs and wonderful memories. In this final Inside the Market of 2025, Sue Grant is joined by Berthon motorboat broker and lifelong yachtsman, Hugh Rayner, to unpack what is really happening across sail and power as we head into 2026. They start with a striking datapoint from the USA. For brokerage yachts over 500,000 dollars, 1,893 motorboats have sold in 2025, against just 149 sailboats including multihulls. As Sue says, it is a sobering statistic. Hugh sees it every day as experienced sailors quietly move to semi displacement and long range motor yachts. As he puts it, many are discovering that “straight line sailing is quite nice because you can sit inside, put the heating on and avoid a face full of salt water every fifteen minutes”. Multihulls are another clear growth story on both sides of the Atlantic, sail and power. Deck space, comfort and performance are drawing in new owners. At the same time, more mature and heavier designs must now be priced very keenly to compete with rapidly evolving new models and materials. New yacht sales remain challenging overall. Confidence, not capital, is the limiting factor. Yet truly new designs in the quality segment still cut through. From serious blue water sailing yachts to long range motorboats, the best of the new launches are selling off the drawing board in both Europe and the USA. Across the group, buyers are asking Berthon to act for them in growing numbers. They want accurate, unvarnished advice on values, VAT, build quality and where a yacht really sits in the market. As Hugh says, “you are not just buying a boat, you are buying what that owner has done with that boat”. Correctly priced, well marketed recent yachts with good pedigree, strong service history and sensible specification are still finding buyers readily. Berthon goes into the holiday period with more yachts under contract for early 2026 than we would normally expect. None of this hides the fact that 2025 has been a bruising, turbulent year and that 2026 is likely to be similar. Reading the market accurately and telling owners the truth about price and presentation is critical. Overpriced, badly marketed yachts will not sell, however cheap the commission deal. The episode closes with a look at the Berthon Fleet itself. The marketing team in all territories is busy, with an unusually high volume of new listings joining the fleet for the time of year. This time I return to beautiful Aurora Reservoir in Aurora, Colorado on another unusually warm mid-November day. Aurora Reservoir is a city park in the City of Aurora, CO. The park features a sandy swim beach, modern 3 lane boat ramp, clean restroom facilities and nice picnic areas. The reservoir permits electric motor and hand-powered watercraft only...no gas outboards permitted. The reservoir is open to boating until 1 December. The Precision 16 is a lightweight Stephen Seaton-designed un-ballasted centerboard sailing dinghy with a planing hull manufactured from 1982 until the mid 90s. It was superseded in 1995 by the smaller Jim Taylor-designed Precision 15 (P-15CB and P-15K).
