We depart Stromboli on route to Panerea and are rewarded with breathtaking views of the volcano. Unfortunately, our stay among the Aeolian islands is short due to forcasted high winds in the area of the islands and through the Strait of Messina. The next day is our passage through the Strait where we narrowly miss Charybdis and Scilla and find a breath wind that carries us down the coast of Sicily. We are enchanted by the coastline of Sicily with its dense mountainside villages. Arriving in Taormina, we are happy to find what appears to be a welcome anchorage but suddenly take two hits to the hull from what sounded like BB gun fire as we looked for an anchor spot close to some abandoned buildings. We immediately go out, far and deep and check for damage as evening approaches. In this particular spot, we don't feel comfortable leaving the boat and plan on leaving the following morning.

👉 Start the Basic Sail Trim course here: https://www.nauticed.org/sailing-courses/view/basic-sail-trim?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=A1v3DGV9Fmo If you’ve ever looked at your sails and thought, “I know this could be better, but I’m not exactly sure what to change,” this is the course for you. The Basic Sail Trim course walks you through how sails really work using live, interactive animations. Instead of guessing, you’ll see exactly how each control changes sail shape and performance. In this course, you’ll learn: - How the sheets control sail angle and power - What the traveler actually does and when to move it - How the fairlead/lead position affects the leech and overall sail shape - How the boom vang works and when to use it - What a well-trimmed sail should look like so the boat glides efficiently through the water - Even experienced sailors tell us they’ve picked up new insights from this course. If you’re confused about what your sails should look like, how to control shape, or how to make the boat feel “right,” Basic Sail Trim will give you a clear mental model and practical tools on the water. #sailing #sailboat #sailor #sailingschool

🌊⛵ After a long pause, we’re finally back on the water. This video starts with a short sail from Costa Rica to Panama during a break while delivering another boat, then jumps forward to the present day aboard It’s The Truth. The last six months have looked very different than we planned. We spent that time back home in Virginia helping my mum, living a land-based life we didn’t expect — but one we’re grateful for. In this episode, we’re catching you up on where we’ve been, what we’ve been doing, what life looks like right now, and where we’re headed next as we ease back into cruising life. Day 40, Solo NonStop Circumnavigation: My key broke off in the ignition a while ago, and it’s corroded (seized) shut! We won’t be able to motor to charge the batteries or fly to safety. 🙏🏻 we’re committed. It’s September 2nd; 2025. We’re mid Atlantic, finally south of the ITCZ, heading towards the equator (3°35 currently). 2,197 miles from the start (Grenada). 0 engine hours have been used since setting sail. WILL ANSWER ALL COMMENTS WHEN I HAVE SERVICE! ❤️ My name is Captain Kimmer. After tri-outs: sailing across the Atlantic without any navigation equipment, just my eyes and the stars, we’re on mission 1 of 3. A Solo NonStop Circumnavigation with a twist! I hope you enjoy the show. 🐶 ♋️ The Bravest Dog in the World Is About to Change It. Help Us Get There. I’m Captain Kimmer, Kimmer O’Reilly — sailor, survivor, and founder of a mission that shouldn’t be possible. Two-time blood cancer nearly took my life. When I survived, I expected joy. What came instead was an identity crisis. I didn’t know who I was anymore — just that the old me was gone. Then came Casper — my service dog, my best friend, my reason to fight forward. Now, Casper and I are doing something no one believes can be done: a nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe… starting from the wrong side. We’re sailing east, into the wind and current, through the Southern Ocean and past the Cape of Good Hope — proving that after cancer, life isn’t over. It can be better than it ever was. But we’re not just breaking records. We’re launching a nonprofit to help cancer survivors rediscover purpose, identity, and joy. This GoFundMe isn’t just to keep our sails full. It’s to build something that lasts long after we return. Donate today — not just to help Casper and me sail around the world, but to help thousands of survivors believe they can start again. In this video, we take you through the full journey of a Seawind 1170 at our Izmir, Türkiye production facility, showing how a Seawind catamaran is built from the ground up. You’ll see each key stage of the process, from the initial hull and deck moulds, lamination and carbon reinforcement, through to assembly, interior fit-out, final testing and quality control before launch. As the boat progresses down the production line, it is built to each owner’s individual specification, with systems, equipment and layouts installed as part of a structured, carefully managed process, not as a mass-produced configuration. The Seawind 1170 exemplifies a perfect synergy between global manufacturing and time-honored Australian craftsmanship. While these vessels are produced in Türkiye, every hull is meticulously engineered to the exact Seawind standard that has defined our brand for over four decades. We utilize the same premium materials, advanced vacuum infusion techniques, and rigorous construction methods that were originally pioneered in Australia. This unwavering commitment to quality ensures that our 40-year legacy of offshore boatbuilding excellence is built into every catamaran, regardless of where its journey begins. This video is for sailors and future owners who want to understand what sits behind a Seawind, not just how it looks on a brochure, but how it is engineered, assembled and tested for long-term ownership, practical sailing, and confidence offshore. #SeawindCatamarans #HowASeawindIsBuilt #Boatbuilding #CatamaranBuild #CompositeConstruction #CarbonReinforcement #BuiltTheSeawindWay #OffshoreSailing 🔔 Subscribe and be part of the journey. 🌐 https://seawindcats.com/ 📩 info@seawindcats.com Our social media profiles: https://www.facebook.com/SeawindCatamarans https://www.instagram.com/seawindcats

I just discovered that my chain is divided into two types, one larger than the other, and that the materials must be different because the joining point shows a lot of corrosion. What would be the best chain size for my Windlass? Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFuWfLVgIBL6JzolbRqefXw/join

Most people think wooden boatbuilding requires complicated math. It doesn’t. The 7-10-7 rule is a simple geometric trick that lets you turn square stock into a perfectly rounded spar — quickly, accurately, and without repetitive calculations. Square → Octagon → 16 sides → Round. Simple. Elegant. Reliable. 🌐 nomadboatbuilding.com 🛠 Support the channel: patreon.com/nomadboatbuilding #boatbuilding #woodworking #sparbuilding #handtools #traditionalcraft #geometry #DIY

A Seawind 1260 Circumnavigation A story from the first owner of the Seawind 1260 can inspire every sailor who hasn't yet clocked years of offshore experience. Will you see yourself in their story? Klaus and Andrea didn’t grow up crossing oceans. Before taking delivery of their Seawind 1260 in Vietnam in 2022, their sailing background was limited to short seasonal trips. Yet they made a bold decision: set sail around the world and place their trust in a vessel designed to be a silent partner through every learning curve. They weren’t the most experienced sailors in the anchorage. What they had was preparation, persistence, teamwork, and the ultimate confidence in the platform beneath them. This is not “fun in the sun” cruising. This is real bluewater sailing and a reminder that you don’t need to be born an ocean sailor to become one when you have a boat that supports your ambition. If you’ve been dreaming about offshore passages but questioning whether you’re ready enough, this story might be the perspective you need. It proves that with the right partner on the water, the transition from coastal dreamer to global explorer is within your reach. 🔔 Subscribe and be part of the journey. 🌐 https://seawindcats.com/ 📩 info@seawindcats.com Our social media profiles: https://www.facebook.com/SeawindCatamarans https://www.instagram.com/seawindcats

We completed our last-minute provisioning in Sandakan with new crew Geoff and Anne before setting off to negotiate the shallow shoals and enter the Kinabatangan River. After a leisurely motor upstream to the midway stopping point at the big U-bend, we took the tender into a side lagoon for a true Borneo jungle adventure. That evening, all the rally boats gathered for a celebratory drink. Unfortunately, we were interrupted by the blast of a tug’s horn as it came downriver towing a huge barge. With no time to waste, we leapt into the tender and raced to the first upstream boat, dropping two people aboard to get it started and out of the way. I immediately spun the tender around and pushed with everything it had, forcing the yacht sideways just enough to narrowly clear the oncoming barge. We then raced downriver, pushing each yacht in turn to clear a path. There simply wasn’t time for anyone to lift anchor and move under their own power. Thankfully, every yacht in the barge’s path was shifted to safety. Continuing upriver, we made it as far as the powerlines at Sukau, 36 nautical miles inland, and enjoyed a couple of wildlife tours in search of proboscis monkeys, orangutans, hornbills, and—if we were lucky—a pygmy elephant. On the return journey, we once again negotiated shallow shoals and strong currents before making our way back out, covering a total of 86 nautical miles along the river. WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breath taking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world. Join us on our journey, and don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more sailing adventures! #seawind1370 #seawindcats #sailing #sailingboat #sailingyacht #yacht #yachting #yachtinglifestyle #cruisinglife #kinabatangan #borneo #malaysia

INSIDE GREAT LAKES SAILING SEASON SEVEN SHOW NO. 154 - The landscape has softened a bit after the last IGLS show featuring America's Cup veteran John Sweeney, who is suing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron over the Deed Of Gift, so we thought about pushing on with some information about cruising and a great announcement for our old friend from Spectrum Sailing Scott Herman. who just worked a deal with Sail GP to provide assistance for his program that works with autistic youngsters. The Great Lakes Cruising Club Commodore Joe McKeown stops by to chat about his organization's dedication to leisure cruising , while Dave Monk, of ILYA fame, chats about combining racers and sailors on the same Put-In-Bay dock during Bay Week at the end of July, which will be quite a feat, but let's listen and see if it can work so please stay tuned and let's see what happens.

Luxury On A Budget? | Moody DS41 | The Marine Channel In this video, we take a tour of the Moody DS41, a deck saloon yacht that reinvents the original 'Moody' brand, with its traditional sailing yacht layouts, with a strong focus on onboard living and long-term comfort. The DS41’s raised cockpit and protected helm position create a more enclosed, secure sailing environment. The layout is designed to keep everything on one level, with easy movement between the helm, seating, and companionway—making it particularly well suited to short-handed cruising and extended time onboard. One of the defining features of the Moody DS41 is its deck saloon concept, which brings the main living space up to cockpit level. This creates a seamless connection between the interior and exterior, offering excellent visibility, plenty of natural light, and a more sociable layout compared to traditional sailing yachts. Below deck, the accommodation is designed with practicality and comfort in mind, offering a well-laid-out galley, spacious cabins, and plenty of storage for longer passages. The overall feel is closer to that of a small apartment on the water, rather than a conventional sailing yacht. If you enjoy detailed yacht tours, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and turn on notifications for more marine content.

A Brand New Boat and a Brutal Shakedown. We picked up our new Fountaine Pajot 44 in La Rochelle with high hopes, but the Atlantic had other plans. What was supposed to be a dream delivery to Gibraltar quickly turned into a battle against failing gear and "blind" navigation. Inside this episode: The Furler Fail: A constant struggle with our headsail that nearly left us stranded. Invisible to Giants: Our AIS is not displaying our position in some of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. Close Calls: Watching massive ships emerge from the sea clutter just hundreds of yards away. Consider to subscribe to our channel to help us to keep producing these free videos for you! We are really enjoying this life and sharing everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.
