This video is about Sailing New Zealand, Installing an Engel Drawe Fridge, Ep 49, Off the Starboard Hull in a Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran, sailing around the world. A Canadian Couple from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada left from Parksville July 21, 2016 to sail around the world in their Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran. See how they get along, who they meet and where they end up going. They have a 10 year estimated time line, but a very open agenda. Our last video about arriving in Hiva Oa was in April 2018. We landed in Makemo in May and visited 5 other atolls, Kauehi, Fakarava (great night shark dive in the south pass), Toau, Apataki (huge surf) and the biggest atoll Rangiroa. Then we were in the societies (Tahiti, Huahine, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Maupiti and Maupihaa) which was a nice blend of atoll and island. Maupiti was our favourite place. Then we went to Swarrow, a nature reserve with 2 resident rangers in the Cook Islands. Then we went to the island country of Niue with unlimited underwater visibility, pristine coral, baby humpback whales, caverns and chasms. Breathtaking! From there, we traveled to Neiafu (with dozens of protected anchorages), Pangai in the Haipai region and Nuku’alofa, all 3 regions in Tonga. Next was Minerva Reef for 20 hours before we embarked on the notorious passage to NZ. Since Nov 12 2018, we have been in Opua New Zealand and are loving the friendly people, the lovely Bay of Islands and the access to materials and shops to do some boat projects.

What is the Cruising Meraki Project? The “Project” began back in 2018 when we first decided to start working towards a goal of sailing the world as 3 generations. The term “Project” is fitting for us as we are working together collaboratively to achieve a common goal. meraki [mer-ah-kee] (verb) This is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love — when you put “something of yourself” into what you’re doing, whatever it may be. Final Deck Beams & Scouting Launch Sites - Episode 206 - Acorn to Arabella: Journey of a Wooden Boat
KP got a week to settle in, and takes on a satisfying task: fitting the last three deck beams now that we're done with major interior installations just below them, and that we're getting everything in order to install the next big things: covering boards and deck planking. We're about to witness some big visual change in the coming weeks! Fairing the deck beams will result in complex shapes from beam to beam, forward to aft, with camber and sheer coming into play. Arabella is a boat with a lot of shape, overall and, as it turns out, in each of her components. As we hurtle toward launch in 2023, it's important to scout out a place that's appropriate for Arabella's particulars (Anne misspoke: 5' 6" draft) in the geographical area Steve would prefer, which is anywhere from the Connecticut coast to Portland, Maine. Annie B went to over 20 sites over five days, and found a great many places with good attributes. Maybe you know a few more! Let us know. acorntoarabella@gmail.com. Arabella's Particulars: 38' Length on deck 55' Length overall 15 tons displacement (approximate, based on the design) 5' 6" Draft --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells? Six months of sailing. One broken boat. Countless lessons. This journey wasn’t easy — grounding the boat, ripping the sails, losing both rudders — but damn, was it worth it. In this video, we recap our first six months offshore: Spearfishing in the Caymans Sunsets in Jamaica The Colombian coast And life at anchor in the San Blas ➤ Grab the signed first edition of Be The Captain before it’s gone → https://bethecaptain.com If you’ve ever dreamed of sailing around the world — this is what it really looks like when it works… and when it doesn’t.
Our 40 year old sailboat is constantly requiring our love and attention and as soon as Soph can walk again we want to push her out of the marina and get back to adventuring. We start by servicing the engine, finding a potential oil problem in the saildrive and stitch together the forever falling apart sails. This week is exciting for Soph as she finds out whether she can start to walk again or not. We head to the hospital after visiting a diesel mechanic, who eases our worries for the saildrive. We order in a diver to scrub Nakamas bum among many other things. Hopefully this is the last of our marina work and we can now get back out there. The 38-foot Arcona 380Z is a 100% energy autonomous sailing yacht. It is the first boat manufactured in series to integrate a solar mainsail: the SolarClothSystem by UK Sailmakers. The system prints ultra-flexible photovoltaic cells directly onto the sail’s cloth, providing a capacity of 1kW. The sail along with solar panels on the deck & rig (800W) are then connected with Oceanvolt’s innovative electric motor system. Read more: http://oceanvolt.com/arcona-380-z/
