We ended up sailing around to the south side of St. John and spent several days in Salt Pond Bay. There was so much to do there and we could have spent more time exploring, but we had to get moving as a weather window approaches that will allow us to sail on to St. Martin. Follow along as we see some amazing fish (including a color changing one) while snorkeling, we hike to the top of the point, clean the bottom of our boat, sneak off for a little shopping, then head out for Lameshire Bay next door. Our time in São Miguel is coming an end, so we finish off with a surprise tour of a dairy farm. We see all sides of this process including the breeding, milking, and cataloguing of an entire cows life. We make sure to fill our final days on the island with as much cool stuff as possible, so we visit a bubbling thermal area of Furnas, go to an amazing church, and hike down to a tiny little fishing town at the bottom of a mountain! After months of "couch sailing" on YouTube we decided it was time to stop dreaming and dream and start living it. Brit has wanted to sail and own boat for many years but it was always something that didn't seem it could possible for us. Until we stumbled across countless and I mean countless YouTube Channels like, La Vagabonde, Beau & Brandy, Sailing Uma, SV Delos, Parlay Revival, Tula's Endless Summer, Odd Life Crafting, Expedition Evans and the list goes on. We can only hope to inspire one person to chase their dreams as they have inspired us to. After what seemed like a long search for a sailboat we learned about hurricane damaged boats for auction down in the Caribbean. We came across a listing for a 43 Beneteau Oceanis that was currently being auctioned. We put in our bid and got out bid a few times before finally winning in the end. We had a short window to get from California to St. Thomas USVI to secure our purchase. Now the fun begins! It is time to refit this hurricane damaged sailboat make her our own. Thanks for watching! Matty, Brit & Wicked :)
ORC42 Last Weeks Yard - Aventura Yard: PAEB site 1, Menzel Bourguiba 7050, Tunisia ORC Yard: Marsaudon Composites K1, BSM de keroman Bloc, Rue du Commandant l'Herminier, 56100 Lorient, France Wine: Chateau Rousselle 1 Rousselle, 33710 Saint-Ciers-de-Canesse, France Participate in the Dave Score: https://forms.office.com/r/B4SxyrScz0 Welcome back to Naval Gazing at Camp David. This week’s guest yacht is from the “unsupervised husband”, need for speed category. It’s the baby Marsaudon … The ORC42! Today we are going to 1. Review its specifications, pricing and layout against three similar new vessels 2. Do a full tour asking, “What would Sylvia say?” 3. Naval Gaze at an innovation and/or adjustment that might make life aboard easier 4. Have a look at the used market for 3-5 year old comparables 5. And finally give it a “Dave Score” and compare the result with all our previously reviewed yachts. Hovering high above Vancouver BC, we fly across the Atlantic, across the continent, and across the Med to the home of last week’s yacht at the Aventura yard in exotic Tunisia From there we fly over to the Northwest coast of France and the old submarine base that is home of Marsaudon Composites and the ORC42. For our wine pairing this week we head south, down the west coast to the Bordeax region of France and Chateau Rousselle, where we discover Château Rousselle and their: Château Rousselle Côtes de Bourg 2018 Chateau La Rousselle is one of the older estates in the region. The vineyard dates all the way back to the 1600’s, when it was founded by a member of the Rousselle family. However, the true modern era for Chateau La Rousselle is quite recent as that starts in 1971 when the Fronsac estate was purchased by the Davau family. At the time of the purchase by the Davau family, Chateau La Rousselle was in a dilapidated condition and everything required work. The new owners began an extensive renovation program from the ground up starting with the chateau, wine cellars and wine making facilities. Château Rousselle Côtes de Bourg 2018 is soft and creamy, concentrated, fruity and all in length. Here you will find aromas of raspberry, blueberry, cherry, licorice, spice and wild herbs. Good vintages that can stay for more than 10 years in the cellar. Oil on canvas. Berthe Marie Pauline Morisot (1841 –1895) was a French painter and a member of the circle of painters in Paris who became known as the Impressionists. In 1864, Morisot exhibited for the first time in the highly esteemed Salon de Paris. Sponsored by the government and judged by Academicians, the Salon was the official, annual exhibition of the Académie des beaux-arts in Paris. Her work was selected for exhibition in six subsequent Salons[1] until, in 1874, she joined the "rejected" Impressionists in the first of their own exhibitions, which Edgar Degas and Claude Monet. It was held at the studio of the photographer Nadar. Morisot went on to participate in all but one of the following eight impressionist exhibitions, between 1874 and 1886.
