Jump on board with us with extra content AND ad-free videos ~ Support our Production▸ / https://www.patreon.com/c/SailingMaalie It's finally here! Our first video since April. It has been a tough year for us – please see the post on our channel about where we have been. In this video, we take you through the full build and installation of a staysail on our Rival 32. This upgrade will be crucial to sailing in heavy weather, and keeping the boat balanced offshore. We have spent the last couple of years preparing this footage, from the rigging installations, visiting Kemp Sail's loft and testing the new sail across the Atlantic Ocean - we hope it was worth the wait! A huge shout out to Kemp Sails who believed in our project and creativity to take us on as ambassadors for their brand, a real privilege. This staysail has carried us far and wide, and for many more miles to come. We hope that there is a nugget of information in this video that could help you with your own installation, or different techniques to use whilst sailing offshore. Is the Coast Guard watching you right now? It doesn't take much to get pulled over on the water. One missing sticker, one burnt-out light, or one wrong turn near a restricted zone is all it takes to trigger a full boarding inspection. And if you aren't prepared, that "routine check" can turn into fines, citations, or a terminated voyage. In this video, we break down 10 Things That Will Get You Pulled Over by the Coast Guard in 2026. From the obvious safety violations to the sneaky environmental rules you might not know about, we cover everything you need to avoid. We discuss: Registration Red Flags: Why faded numbers are an instant target. The "Overloaded" Look: How weight distribution catches their eye. Erratic Maneuvers: Why weaving or drifting looks suspicious. Flag Etiquette: How flying the wrong flag can get you stopped. Restricted Zones: The invisible lines that trigger an armed response. Stay safe, stay legal, and keep the blue lights in your rearview. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 Intro: When the Blue Lights Flash 00:48 1. Missing or Expired Registration Numbers 01:45 2. ► Making its world premiere at boot Düsseldorf, the Lasai 32KS is an electric weekender developed by a solar-electric engineering company based in Spain’s Basque Country region. The word “Lasai” means calm and peaceful in the Basque language, and that covers a program that this powercat clearly embodies... without compromising on architectural choices aimed at optimizing overall efficiency. ► Designer Gonzalo Redondo opted for particularly fine hulls, specific propellers, and careful aerodynamics - everything has been conceived to optimize every available kilowatt and ensure smooth and quiet sailing. The carbon coachroof incorporates ultra-flush solar panels. ► The Lasai 32KS is capable of reaching 18 knots thanks to its twin 50 kW pods. And thanks to the high power of its battery bank, the powercat is capable of a range of 80 nautical miles at 10 knots. ► At the stern, there is a large sun-lounging area. Optionally, a small galley can be included underneath. In the center, a space dedicated to socializing is organized around a table that can easily seat six. The helm station incorporates the proprietary energy management interface developed by Lasai. Forward, there is a second sunbathing area. Circulation is provided by just one side-deck, on the starboard side. ► The cabin offers good living space considering the available width (not quite 10 feet/ 3 meters), and this is complemented by a head and shower compartment. The boat is finished to a high standard. ► At the boat show, the Lasai booth was constantly busy and four units have already been pre-ordered. We exchanged contact details so we can organize a sea trial in the very near future. ► We featured the Gunboat 72 in our test in Multihulls World #193; we find hull #2 here in Saint Martin: it's the largest multihull entered in the 2026 Caribbean Multihull Challenge. ► Layla, as she's called, is now a regular at the event… and so is her skipper. Our man is none other than Brian Thompson – the only British sailor to have completed four non-stop circumnavigations of the globe. ► The skipper, who warmed up by crossing the Atlantic in just 5 days aboard the MOD70 Argo, finds himself at the helm of a much heavier multihull, of course… Nevertheless, he positions his 72-foot vessel like a Hobie Cat, not hesitating to tack at the starting line. ► While the lighter multihulls managed to regain the lead in real time, it was still Layla that emerged victorious in corrected time at the awards ceremony that evening. NauticEd’s FREE Sail Trim Course—including animations like this that make the concepts instantly visual - https://www.nauticed.org/sailing-courses/view/basic-sail-trim?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=T3dsLBa15XE In this animation, Grant Headifen (Global Director of Education for NauticEd) shows how a headsail twists out relative to the fairlead moving forward and back. You’ll see the fairlead aft with air spilling out at the top, then watch what happens as the fairlead moves forward: the jib sheet angle pulls down more on the leech, the leech tightens, twist comes out, and the airflow direction at the top of the sail changes. The foot loosens a little while the leech tightens—resulting in more wind power at the top. Conversely, moving the fairlead aft reduces power aloft and reduces the heeling of the boat. #sailing #sailboat #sailingschool #sailinglife

After a week of work in Port Protection, it was time to make the run back toward town… whether we felt like it or not. This is what that actually looks like for us. An early departure to stay ahead of weather. Picking our way around the northwest tip of Prince of Wales Island. Waiting on current and wind in Merrifield Bay. Motor sailing when we can. Sailing when it makes sense. And a whole lot of watching conditions evolve in real time. Nothing dramatic on this trip. Just winter boating in Alaska and the steady, time-intensive reality of moving a 110,000-pound boat through Southeast Alaska when you live off the road system. Along the way: • Working the weather windows • Killing time while tide and wind sort themselves out • A brief overboard rug incident 😅 • Fresh pumpkin chocolate chip cookies in the galley • Hunting for a safe overnight anchorage • Catching what wind we can in Sumner Strait • Making steady miles toward Wrangell By the end of the run, we’d been on our way to town for over a full day, reminded again that out here, even simple logistics take planning, patience, and a willingness to move with the conditions. If you’ve ever wondered what everyday boat life really looks like in remote Alaska, this is it. No staging. No scripts. Just the rhythm of life aboard the Alaskan Gypsy. ⚓ Vessel: Alaskan Gypsy 📍 Southeast Alaska 🌊 Living and working full time aboard Subscribe for real working waterfront life, remote cruising, and honest day-to-day life afloat. In this episode, the new crew sets sail for the very first time as we depart Saint Lucia and point the bow toward Martinique. Due to visa complications, one of our crew members was unable to enter Saint Lucia and had been diverted to Martinique. Which means we’re throwing these rookie sailors straight into the fire… with an overnight passage to kick off the final season of Sailing Ripple Effect. But before leaving Saint Lucia, we decided to add one more challenge to the agenda. Standing nearly 2,500 feet above the Caribbean Sea, the Petit Piton is a towering volcanic spire… and one of the most aggressive hikes in the entire Caribbean. Naturally… we had to climb it. ------------------------------------------ EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!!: https://www.patreon.com/sailingrippleeffect ------------------------------------------ Watch Season 10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1CA-bu-rW0&list=PLEz8PmTM4lWBzU9d-_qLVRnQsaDb5D-ft Watch Season 9: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReB90uELXV8&list=PLEz8PmTM4lWA-ObNyQan-3_XqLKsgJFmW Watch Season 8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIVCzMdoWBA&list=PLEz8PmTM4lWDtf6jfHdIgHPL7oGtAWMt3 Watch Season 7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afaTfAmnuMs&list=PLEz8PmTM4lWDK2c2YW8rr55wjvf74934g Watch Season 6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-1Jkl4rCMY&list=PLEz8PmTM4lWDu_xLN0JFnx-YX5lSgzXq3&index=1&t=57s Watch Season 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7IrEwJVnHI&list=PLEz8PmTM4lWDG7tstlqR3O1M2fkQQT8-A Watch Season 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nsvIT8jNl8&t=131s Watch Season 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt7prknxHOA Watch Season 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z1OuEPXG-w ------------------------------------------ Follow Mara: https://www.instagram.com/classicmara_/ Follow Doc: https://www.instagram.com/docgastone/ Follow Gabi: https://www.instagram.com/gabiwaked/ Follow Tami: https://www.instagram.com/tambam_tw/ Follow Marta: https://www.instagram.com/martaventures/

I was looking at the same ones like this last year and they were $600 and up. In this video we figure out how to put the Cheerson CX-20 together without reading the directions. The hardest thing to put together was the gimble plate, but the video from this thing was great, even though we had to mount the sony action camera upside down.
