When we arrived in Charlotte Amelie on the island of St Thomas we found out we had arrived just before the start of their 4 day long Carnival Celebration. Food, music, fun! It was a celebration by and for the locals, and while tourists were certainly welcome, the real reason for the party was for the local's enjoyment. The LSG Group has taken its culinary excellence skills to yet another level: The company’s Global Culinary Excellence Team has developed “bonus food” for Alexander Gerst, a European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut and International Space Station (ISS) commander during the upcoming “Horizons” mission. Bonus food plays an important role in the astronauts’ physical and psychological wellbeing during their typically six-month stay onboard the ISS. While their day-to-day meals are a selection from a standard food catalogue, they can take a certain amount of bonus food (about 10 percent of their total provisions), which is specifically developed to their individual preferences. The consumption of the bonus food onboard the ISS is an important team event that fosters morale and spirit during the astronauts’ challenging stay in space. “When you fly onboard the ISS, you are around 400 km above our planet,” said Frank de Winne, Head of the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne, Germany. “We certainly want our astronauts to perform in an optimal manner, so we need to provide them support. One of the supports we provide is food.” "In order to enhance the challenging life of the astronauts, we try to offer them a taste of home,” commented Jörg Hofmann, Director Culinary Excellence LSG Group. “Food is deeply connected to our families, personal life and cultural heritage. In de-veloping the bonus food, we needed to think completely out of the box and were able to apply all our knowledge and culinary expertise in a very unique way.” On May 19, 2018, there was a media event at the EAC in which the attendees were able to sample the Horizons mission bonus food. “It was a great compliment and accomplishment for us to receive some excellent feedback from the ESA, and we look very much forward to seeing the astronauts enjoy our creations in space,” added Jörg Hofmann. The Horizons mission is scheduled to start June 6, 2018.

Our lucky guests got to swim with a whale shark at a fishing platform (bagan) close to Triton Bay. The whale shark is attracted to the bagan by the fishermen feeding it! Filmed on board Coralia Liveaboard.

Our family sailing adventure continues with the Sailing Kids on day 7 of the summer holiday trip. Blake finds a kina, otherwise known as a sea urchin endemic in New Zealand and a traditional component of Maori diet. We then sail from Te Kouma to Man O’ War bay, while the adults enjoyed the Man O War winery restaurant the kids were playing on the sandy beach where the tide had exposed an old mooring anchor, in the so called aquarium, the kids play with a quick hermit crab and small fish. This was our last day of the summer break, it was a fantastic sailing trip where we had five sightings of dolphins and three sharks. Great to see the wildlife, next time we will get more of it on camera! Still learning to remember to pull out the GoPro Hero 8 and Mavic Mini Drone! We are two brothers, aged 4 and 7, who love going on sailing family adventures - exploring the outdoors and finding super cool wild animals, bugs and marine life. So along with our parents, we’re sailing the world, exploring islands, and looking for interesting wildlife. We start our adventure sailing New Zealand but dream of sailing around the Mediterranean some day. We love our planet and want to look after our environment, so through our travels we hope other kids will feel inspired to care for our planet and wildlife too.
