We couldn't fit our cruising catana catamaran in the travel lift so we pulled her out of the water using a VERY BIG crane. This was the first time we have hauled out Paikea since we bought her almost 3 years ago. This is another video in our Upgrading Paikea series and it was all hands of deck for the youngbarnacles team. Such a big couple of days prepping and hauling out! It was more than just a family affair this time. Big shout out to Ewen from Victory Base in Valencia, Joerg and Margarita for their help and the awesome drone footage. They have a great youtube channel Sailing Kanoa. You should definitely check them out if you love cooking. Special thanks also to Quentin for sharing his expertise on the day. This is the second video of three where I explain the changes I made to my Tiny sailboat to make her perfectly suited to offshore sailing and a circumnavigation!

We sold all our belongings and carried out our dream of buying a sail boat to become a liveaboard family. This video highlights the process we went through to becoming boat owners. Starting our journey in France, we found a Beneteau First 42.7s racing yacht which we have bought and made our own home. You can follow our Instagram account @wearesailingquackers and for a more child orientated view can be seen @the_feral_three. Buying a boat is a long process but throwing three young children into the mix adds an extra element of stress and excitement. Follow our journey as we become a sailing family.
Unsere erste Fahrt mit dem K2. Zwar wenig Wind, aber genug um etwas Gefühl für das Boot zu entwickeln. Mit dem Reacher müssen wir noch üben ;-) Have fun !

So nothing to do with sailing this week as we are stuck at home. However we had promised one of our subscribers that we would show him what we had been up to this winter, with no boat to maintain. And this is it. Still not finished but its coming together If you would like to leave a comment and find that YouTube has disabled them again on this film, then please take a look at the community tab on our page. We will leave a discussion open on there so that we can all have a chat about what happened. We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. https://www.paypal.me/TheFoxwellFamily And a big thank you to everyone that has supported us so far, its very much appreciated. Our First SOLO SAIL on our 37ft Sailboat I EP. 24 For those of you, who have been watching our sailing vlog from the beginning you will know we are a a sailing couple who bought a sailing boat with no experience! We have been through all the ups and downs of boat life, with brand new rigging, Raymarine navigation equipment, getting our sails on and just general sailing boat DIY! in the last episode of boat life things, you saw us take Indiana out for the first time, with some help from our friends! This time it was just us, our first SOLO sail!! This was our chance to take what we learnt on our day skippers course and put the sailing knowledge to the test and learn how to sail our sailboat again! Okay, so we aren't ready to sail around the world just yet and live on anchor, but for two people who bought a sailboat with no experience and learnt how to sail with no experience, we are pretty proud of ourselves! 00:00 Intro 01:21 New Clutches 03:11 Our First Solo Sail 08:16 RIP SCISCO 10:14 Chris's DIY Corner 13:50 Outro FOLLOW OUR JOURNEY ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/sailing_indiana/ BUY US A COFFEE: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sailingindiana Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe! Cut version of test flight for different angle of attack controllers (not shown in this video). Complete system flight test, with all modes of operation. Flight conducted completely autonomously, only high-level commands (such as "hover now") were given. 0:00 Intro 0:10 Take-Off 0:38 Reel out Tether 1:04 Rotate Landing Perch to Back 1:27 Trans-In 1:44 Figure Eight Flight 3:03 Trans-Out 3:32 Rotate Landing Perch to Front 4:03 Reel in Tether 4:46 Landing Kite size: 2.4m wingspan (1:4 scale of 100kW product). Location: Oberbiberg near Munich, Germany Date & time: 21 March 2023, around 1 pm. Name of kite: SN8 "Stiffy" (due to upgraded, stiffer tail) Additional chapter information: * Take-Off. In-between flights the kite is parked on the landing perch on the ground station. Once conditions are suitable the kite goes into hover flight, undocking from the ground station. * Reel out Tether. While in hover, the tether is reeled out from the winch on the ground station. The tether attaches the kite to the ground station mechanically and feeds electricity to the kite during hovering. * Rotate Landing Perch to Back. The landing perch is rotate to the backside of the ground station during figure eight flight to free up the space between the ground station and the kite. This way, the tether can move freely. * Trans-In. Once the tether is complete reeled out from the winch, the kite accelerates into figure eight flight mode. * Figure Eight Flight. During figure eight flight, the kite can produce energy, which then reverses the power flow: The onboard propellers (the same that were previously used for hovering) are now used as small wind turbines and produce power aboard the kite. The kite harvests the energy from the wind. During this mode the kite feeds electricity to the ground station and the grid. * Trans-Out. When the flight has to be terminated, e.g., due to a change in weather conditions such as too low wind, the kite transitions out of figure eight flight and back into hover flight. * Rotate Landing Perch to Front. To reel in the tether, the landing perch is rotated to the front again, catching the tether and thus, making sure it is winched correctly. * Reel in Tether. While the kite maintains hover flight, the tether is reeled in, onto the winch. * Landing. Once the tether is reeled in completely and the kite's landing hooks docked to the ground station, the kite ramps down its propellers. It is now securely parked and ready for the next flight. This approach allows us to harvest the energy from the wind more efficiently than conventional wind turbines, because we only use around 10% of the materials. Just wanted to share what it's like to sail in some particular wind conditions - first up, a wing-on-wing downwind setup! With 30 knot gusts we didn't want to have the main sail out so we opted to use our two furling headsails. Nice a steady in some pretty windy and wavy conditions!
