In Episode 62 of the Sailing Goat Series, we continue our journey toward the Corinth Canal by sailing from Petalas to the island of Trizonia—the halfway point to the canal’s entrance. This leg of the passage offers everything from peaceful breezes to wild, gale-force winds. We begin the sail under ideal conditions: a steady 15-knot tailwind and light swell make for a calm and easy ride—until we pass beneath the iconic Rion-Antirion Bridge near Patras. That’s when everything changes. On the other side of the bridge, we get hit by violent catabatic winds, rapidly shifting angles and ramping up in strength. Within minutes, we’re facing 35 knots, with gusts pushing toward gale force (45+ knots). We quickly reduce sail and make a dash for the shelter of Trizonia Island, just in time to avoid the worst of the blow. 🌉 Sailing Under the Rion-Antirion Bridge: Sailing beneath one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world is awe-inspiring. This calm stretch of the journey lulls us into a false sense of ease before the chaos hits. 💨 Catabatic Winds Strike: As soon as we pass the bridge, the weather turns. Powerful down-slope catabatic winds kick in, changing direction constantly and pushing us hard. It’s a fast shift from smooth to survival mode. ⛵ Quick Reefing & Smart Sailing: We reduce sail just in time and navigate toward Trizonia, where the island's protection shields us from the worsening conditions. 🏝️ Safe in Trizonia: We drop anchor safely before the winds reach full gale-force, proving once again that timing and quick decisions are everything in sailing. 💬 Join the Conversation: Have you ever experienced a sudden catabatic wind or sailed under the Rion Bridge? Share your stories and tips in the comments—we’d love to hear from you! 👍 If you enjoy the thrill of weather shifts, tight calls, and iconic sailing routes, give this video a thumbs up, share it with fellow sailors, and subscribe to the Sailing Goat Series for more! 🔗 Connect with Sailing Goat: Instagram: @nobodysride Instagram: @sailing_svgoat 📌 Hashtags: #SailingGoat #RionBridge #CatabaticWinds #SailingTrizonia #GaleForceWinds #CorinthianGulf #SailingGreece #LifeAtSea ⛵ Join us as we sail under engineering marvels, outpace dangerous winds, and discover safe harbor in the nick of time. Day 2 of my 30-day solo journey into Japan’s longevity hotspots. After yesterday’s Respect for the Aged Festival, today was cleanup day—but also a chance to reflect on last night’s celebration where over 100 villagers, young and old, gathered to honor those over 70. From karaoke and radio taiso to wisdom from Kitamura-san, 80 years old and still leading his company, the lessons are simple but powerful: eat natural foods, don’t overeat, and stay connected to your community. These are not just cultural traditions, they are building blocks for resilience and longevity. Tomorrow I set off toward Okinawa, once the world’s most famous Blue Zone, to uncover what went wrong. Let me know what themes you are interested in as I seek out insights. #resilience #bluezone #community
This week aboard aboard our family sailing vlog, we tackle a big catamaran repair: fixing our broken main halyard at the masthead. Using what was left of the broken halyard, we went up the mast and replace it. It was nerve-wracking but it worked — and we’re back sailing! I was a satisfying DIY catamaran repair win! Between repairs, we explored a tiny shack on a remote Chesapeake beach and were greeted by dolphins on our way into Norfolk, VA. First dolphins we've seen on the boat!!! Polaris and her crew reach one of the most remote outposts in the Arctic: Bjørnøya (Bear Island). In this episode, we anchor beneath towering cliffs, obtain landing permission, and cross the island to visit its legendary meteorological station, staffed by only nine people. Along the way, we walk through a stark landscape shaped by wind, permafrost and history. We discover old refuge cabins, scattered timber, human graves from the whaling era, and even the remains of a WWII German aircraft still lying across the tundra. The crew of the station welcome us with extraordinary hospitality — from a full facilities tour to the unexpected offer of a sauna and an Arctic skinny-dip, a rite of passage for those daring enough to join the island’s official “nude bathing club”. We also explore the realities of polar-bear safety, extreme weather, drifting ice, and the powerful currents around this isolated island that sits between mainland Norway and Spitsbergen. Finally, as we prepare to sail north towards Spitsbergen, fog rolls in, the swell builds, and we reflect on an unforgettable encounter with the extraodinary people who keep this outpost running — and the deep history of those who once called this harsh island a temporary home. Join us for an extraordinary mix of adventure, history, Arctic wildlife, raw sailing moments and rare access to a remote scientific station. After nearly a year of planning and waiting, we finally begin building out the heart of our onboard electrical system ⚡⛵ In this episode, we tackle a major refit milestone by designing and installing the core power infrastructure for our catamaran. We’re building a native 24V and 48V electrical system, and the first big decision was relocating critical power equipment out of a deck locker that posed a serious water intrusion risk. Instead, we converted the forward captain’s berth/office into a dedicated utility room — safer, drier, and far more serviceable. To support the electrical gear, we built a custom structural wall using 1-inch Coosa board laminated with 1/4-inch fiberglass for strength and rigidity. As we mocked up the layout, we discovered that not everything would fit as planned — the large inverters had to be moved to an adjacent wall, forcing a rethink of the design before final installation. With the wall bonded in place using bolts and Sikaflex, we mounted a significant portion of our power system, including: Victron inverter and transformer Two battery chargers DC/DC charger 24V and 48V DC bus bars AC electrical panel(s) This Victron equipment has been stored away for nearly a year while other refit priorities took precedence, so finally getting everything mounted and positioned feels like a huge win. The system is coming together, and the next major step will be wiring and commissioning the power plant. If you’re interested in catamaran refits, marine electrical systems, Victron installations, or large-scale sailboat upgrades, this episode is a big step forward in our long refit journey. Thanks for following along — progress is finally visible, and it feels great. 00:00 Teaser clips 00:18 Channel Intro 00:36 Intro to project 01:06 Layout power wall 09:22 Support ledge 11:42 Create aluminum backing plates 15:30 Epoxy in backing plates 17:31 Drill and tap for mounting hardware 17:55 Cut outs for Aircon vents 18:14 Dry fit 19:22 Prep wall to support Multiplus inverters 20:26 Glue and screw wall into place 24:06 Mount Victron gear 29:34 Like and subscribe 29:58 End card #SailingLife #BoatRefit #SailboatMaintenance #CruisingLife #powerplant #DIYBoatProjects #SailingCouple #SailboatRestoration #liveaboardlife #victron #victronenergy © Sailing Roam 2025

‘Ruby’ is a 2013 Dufour 410 Grand Large listed exclusively for sale with YOTI on Pittwater. https://www.yoti.com.au/listing/dufour-410-grand-large-ruby Ruby is a well-specified and thoughtfully upgraded Dufour 410 Grand Large, offering an excellent balance of performance, comfort, and ease of handling. Designed by Umberto Felci, the 410GL is widely regarded for its powerful yet forgiving hull form, generous cockpit, and impressive interior volume, making it a standout cruiser in this size range. The hull features pronounced chines, enhancing initial stability, water flow, and sailing performance while maintaining the comfortable motion expected of a true cruising yacht. Ruby is a one-owner yacht, originally specified for Australian conditions and carefully maintained throughout her ownership. The current owner has taken a considered approach to both equipment selection and ongoing care, resulting in a yacht that presents in excellent condition and is well set up for continued cruising. On deck, Ruby is configured for easy short-handed sailing, with twin helm stations, excellent visibility, and a clean, functional cockpit layout. A notable feature of this model is the lower boom height, allowing safer and easier access to the sails a practical advantage often appreciated by cruising couples and families. The sail inventory is a real highlight, featuring a North fully-battened mainsail and North genoa (headsail replaced April 2022), complemented by a Code Zero on a furler and a gennaker on a snuffer, providing excellent performance across a wide range of conditions. Close-quarters handling is made straightforward with a Side-Power drop-down bow thruster, serviced in December 2025. Down below, the three-cabin layout offers impressive space and comfort for family cruising or extended stays onboard. The saloon is bright and welcoming, finished in a beautifully toned interior woodwork that remains in excellent condition. Generous seating, comfortable upholstery, and a well-appointed galley, including a large top-opening fridge, make life aboard both practical and enjoyable. Power is provided by a Volvo Penta D2-55 saildrive engine, recently serviced in December 2025, including the saildrive, offering peace of mind for the next owner. She was recently hauled out in January 2026 and received a full anti-foul, propspeed, topside/cabintop and deck polish. With quality cruising upgrades, modern electronics including a B&G chartplotter with AIS, and a well-maintained overall presentation, Ruby represents an excellent opportunity to secure a capable, comfortable, and proven cruising yacht. Equally suited to coastal cruising, longer passages, or relaxed weekends on the water, Ruby has cruised the East Coast of Australia and is ready to continue her next chapter. Price and Inventory at https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/2005-outbound-46-10155530/ Outbound Yachts need no word of introduction. Celebrated by world cruisers and featured consistently on such sites as Practical Sailor (who dedicated one of their Youtube Video to the Outbound 46 - Lady K Sailing), or Attainable Cruising with a lengthy and wonderful report by John Harries, or Bluewater Sailing Boat Reviews, which you can also read online, plus numerous publications and owner's reviews. The Outbound 46 has a well-deserved reputation as the gold standard of blue water cruising sailboats. Designed by renowned US naval architect Carl Schumacher, built to the highest standards and continually refined over more than 20 years in production, the Outbound 46 will take you comfortably across any ocean. Her solid GRP hull, encapsulated keel and high righting moment, she is also a nimble, quick but stable boat that is specially designed and built for serious offshore voyagers. Yet, when many go-anywhere yachts compromise on deep, cave-like interiors, sluggish pace and more classic lines with closed-in cockpit and steep companionway, the Outbound 46 bring you all the comfort and feeling of a modern yacht, with a wide sugar-scoop transom and open cockpit for easy access, bright and airy interior with large windows, beautifully handcrafted cherry wood interior and top quality stainless steel portholes, this yacht combines the best traditional ship building can offer, while offering a modern sailor what they need to feel comfortable. Built by Outbound Yachts in Xiamen City, China, next door to the Nordhavn and HH Catamaran factories, amongst others, the Outbound 46 is still in production. So far 80 Outbound 46 have been built, with many orders continuing into the future. Hedonism is hull number 18. All Outbound Yachts are semi-customised and built to order, with each owner working with the factory to refine their yacht around their needs. For Hedonism's owners, years of research and discussions with Bluewater cruising specialists, this meant designing the interior of their yacht with a view to live on board in comfort and independence in the most remote parts of the world. Storage and intelligent weight distribution were taken into consideration, with every space used for dedicated storage for supplies, personal items, tools, spare parts, sailing and safety equipment. Hedonism is a work of art with few equals around the world for anyone looking for the perfect world explorer. Please read on and click on the Additional Descriptions for the detailed inventory and list of recent upgrades. This truly beautiful yacht is continually maintained and improved at no expense spared. Her owners are on board and will welcome you for an inspection or via video call if you wish.

We had an awesome cruise with G-adventures and our two German friends! We adjusted the cruise a little bit so we were able to beat the sunset. this time we snorkelled from the beach instead of the back of The Rock. It was my last cruise and I (Oebie) would like to thank The Rock and all the people I've met onboard The Rock for the great internship and heaps of fun!
