This week I continue my Grandpa, Granddaughter trip. As you may recall in last weeks video, I took Chazzy to New Jersey with me where I am helping care for my dad. During that trip, she and I got to spend time together with an even went into New York City and caught a Broadway playing of Hamilton. Coming home is a massive step in his recovery and ability to get back to self-sustaining. This week I decided to take Chasity with me on a work trip I had in Chicago. We flew in early on Monday morning, arriving at about 7 am. That left us the entire day to go exploring downtown. We got the small Dillo Bikes that you rent and can pick up or drop off all over town. We visited the miracle mile shopping district, the Buckingham fountain famous from the opening scene in the old TV show "Married with Children." We then had breakfast at the Famous LA Stan's donuts where Chazzy was feeding a bird at our table. Then a great little nap and will continue our adventures in next weeks video. Ryan works long hours but with me (Lauren) unable to work the way I had pre-pandemic, I get asked A LOT by my NYC friends about how I fill my days while living on our Fountaine Pajot 43 Belize sailing catamaran. I found that I was struggling to explain how I spend my day to day, despite feeling like my schedule is quite full. I decided set up the camera and take you all along for the ride I that I simply call my boat life. Disclaimer: In case you catch yourself feeling sorry for me....don't. I didn't set out to film an exceptionally challenging day, but that is exactly what it turned out to be and sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches. I'd say I have days like this only about every 4th day. Other days can be filled with lighter, happy things including exercise, enjoying music jam sessions on the beach, and dancing and dinner with friends. I also don't take for granted the clean, breathable air, the welcoming locals, the wonderfully generous sailing community, the sound of the waves, being barefoot almost all the time, the thriving wildlife, the beautiful blue sky, and the bright stars at night. I remember once- when we were still trying to buy our boat- watching a Youbtube video by Gone with the Wynns and they mentioned how when living on a boat, you can expect pretty much everything you'd do in normal daily life to take 2 to 3 times longer than normal. This couldn't be more true. But you know what? I still feel like it's worth it. So yeah. Now you know where my time goes. And you know what? I'm proud of it. If anything...it builds character. We move into our new traveling home, a 40 ft Lagoon 2010. The kids are happy to be in a bigger space. Naja gives a little tour of our tiny home on the water and Jordan begins the first of many boat projects, fixing the fridge.

In this episode, Koro Vita continues east from Savusavu along the south coast of Vanua Levu. The crew does nice dive along a part of the Rainbow Reef, where they see lots of fish, coral, turtles and sharks. The reef in this particular area looks like it has experienced some mechanical damage from earlier storms, but there's lots of evidence of reef recovery and growth. We sail to the Viani Bay area where we are met by Rob and Michelle of Ventana. Rob joins us for a fast drift dive in the channel. We end up drifting to a spot where the current is RIPPING over the top of the reef and pushing down to backfill the space behind it. We found this strong vertical current vector pushing against us, trying to push us down deeper, so we cancel the dive at that point and return to the surface. Even though we cut the dive short we covered a lot of ground and got to see a lot of the reef! After sailing to an anchorage off Qamea Island, we dinghy over to Taveuni with Rob and Michelle, and do a fantastic hike up the 3 Tavoro waterfalls, with a friendly black dog as our tour guide.
