Kilmun Church Over a thousand years ago, an Irish holy man Fintan Munnu started one of the first Christian communities in the west of Scotland here.The cell or chapel of Munnu gave the village its name: Kilmun. Munnu became a Saint, and his reputation made Kilmun an important sacred place. The powerful Campbell clan, who became Lords, Earls and then Dukes of Argyll, adopted it as their spiritual home.They paid priests to pray for their souls, and their dead are buried in a grand mausoleum. Hundreds of years later, a new church was built to house the tourists who came to Kilmun for its beauty and fresh air. Rich people supported it by paying for colourful stained glass windows instead of prayers. In the churchyard, intriguing gravestones bear witness to links to the past. RIP John on S/V Silver Sea He was a great friend, a great sailor, and a great musician. We had many sails together on Volare, where he would bring his guitar and jam while everyone shared food and drink and sea stories. I got to jam with him once, we both played guitar, I had no idea what I was doing, he was teaching me, he's playing, I'm playing, every once in a while what I played sounded really good with what he was playing. It was an amazing experience, one of many with John that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! Well we have arrived at our hurricane hole in Pongo River, NC and now it's a waiting game for Erin to slide on by. This is our 1st hurricane on the hook but we couldn't be more confident in our ground tackle from Mantus... From the Anchor itself, to the new bridle and the swivel. The gear has held up well and so far the highest gusts we saw was 40 knots of wind while anchored in Oriental, NC. Now we will clear off the top side of the boat and then settle in for the weather but for now, we are enjoying the calm waters!

Lee's been sailing Snipes for over 45 years. A good deal of that time its been sailing with his family -- his sister, his wife and most recently his daughter.
