Mais uma etapa do Ranking Norte Catarinense Veleiros de Oceano aconteceu no dia 14 de setembro. A bordo do nosso Veleiro Clássico de 25 pés, junto com o amigo Paolo, participamos na categoria Bico de proa. O dia estava nublado com previsão de mudança no tempo com a entrada de uma frente fria com o vento sul soprando a partir do meio dia.Inicialmente o vento era de nordeste, depois foi mudando de direção dificultando a comissão de regata para definir o percurso Barla Sota.A largada foi adiada e somente quando o vento sul entrou com rajadas de 15 nós o procedimento de largada iniciou. Largamos bem, ao lado dos barcos da categoria RGS, optei pelo bordo da direita enquanto os outros barcos foram para esquerda.Eram cinco barcos na nossa Categoria, chegamos bem próximo do Jeanne, Beneteau 38, na boia, enquanto o Veleiro Hirondelle liderava e o Flash 165 estava em segundo. Após contornarmos a boia com o vento na Alheta conseguimos ultrapassar o Jeanne e chegamos em terceiro lugar. Estava previsto mais uma prova, porém a comissão de regata decidiu encerrar e fomos para a premiação na sede da Praticagem patrocinadora do evento. Separado, morando sozinho num pequeno barraco, com os filhos morando muito distante (dois no Canadá e a caçula em Paraty) já estava aceitando a vida sedentária. Fazia minhas cainhadas diárias e dançava eventualmente. O restante do tempo era ocupado com leitura, rede social e televisão. Em 2022 fui visitar seus filhos no Canadá e meu filho mais velho tinha comprado um pequeno veleiro para navegar no lago de Montreal. Então, num passeio nessa pequena embarcação, meu filho iniciou um diálogo mais ou menos assim: - Velho! Você já foi um grande aventureiro por que não faz mais uma aventura? - Que aventura, cara! – respondi. - Vir de Veleiro do Brasil até o Canadá. Você precisa sair de casa. Precisa de objetivos de vida. - Você está louco? Nunca naveguei e não tenho dinheiro para comprar um veleiro! – retruquei. - Você não tem uma Previdência Privada? - Sim. Tenho. Mas ela é para quando eu ficar velho. É para minha saúde – respondi. - Mas você já não está velho? (emitiu uma sonora gargalhada). Então você retira esse dinheiro e compra um veleiro. Comece a estudar, assistir vídeos e ler livros. Depois você vende o veleiro e repõe a grana. A sugestão do filho foi como um trauma mental para seu velho pai. A partir desse dia aprender sobre velas tornou-se minha obsessão. Tudo na na minha vida foi relacionado à navegação. Comecei a devorar livros e assistir todo tipo de vídeo no YouTube. No primeiro semestre de 2023 tirei a habilitação da Marinha para navegar em lagos (pré-requisito para as demais). No segundo semestre consegui a carteira de Mestre Amador e, finalmente, em abril de 2024, conseguiu a mais temida e difícil prova aplicada pela Marinha do Brasil: Capitão Amador. O material de estudo para essa prova foi enorme. Vários livros, apostilas, curso grátis no YouTube e sites pagos. Havia dias que o velho pensava que seria impossível passar na prova. Coisas estudadas era rapidamente esquecida pela memória sexagenária. A grana para compra do Veleiro estava resguardada. Era só esperar o momento oportuno. Entretanto, restava, ainda uma questão muito importante: equacionar os custos da viagem com sua pequena aposentadoria. A conclusão foi que a grana seri/a insuficiente, principalmente quando as despesas fossem em outra moeda. Para piorar, descobriu que chegando ao Canadá, seria muito difícil voltar no mesmo caminho, tendo em vista que existe uma corrente marítima contrária. O caminho de volta mais fácil teria que ser pela Europa e África. Ou seja, gastar em euros. O visto para entrada em cada ilha ou país corresponderá a um quarto da minha renda, sem contar comida, óleo diesel e manutenção no veleiro tudo em dólar ou Euro. Apesar dos estudos orçamentários indicar a inviabilidade do projeto, no dia 14/10/24 mudei para um veleiro adquirido na cidade de Salvador. O planejamento da viagem estima dois anos de vida ao mar, cujo planejamento pode ser verificado nos dois primeiros vídeos do canal “Veio Doido no Mar” no YouTube. Pretendo navegar pela costa brasileira, passar pelas Ilhas do Caribe, passar pelo Canadá, Europa e África. Em torno de 18 meses viajando.

With weather diabolical right now and the latest sea trip cancelled I turn to my latest purchase, which is a boat winch. Join me aboard Mirage, our Amel 50, for a pure and immersive 440-mile passage from Le Marin, Martinique to Puerto Real, Puerto Rico. No music. Little narration. Just the sound of the waves, the wind, and the boat slicing through the Caribbean Sea. Day 1 delivered perfect sailing conditions - the best I’ve ever had on this route. With our Code 0 flying, Mirage surged forward at a 125° true wind angle and 23–24 knots of breeze, covering an incredible 200 nautical miles in the first 24 hours. The Code 0 proved once again to be a mighty sail. Day 2 brought calmer winds at 12–14 knots, a peaceful change of pace… But on Day 3, the wind returned and carried us straight into Puerto Real, right on schedule. I was joined by an old friend - recently retired and now discovering the joy of Caribbean sailing. He kept watch with me at night and shared every sunrise, sunset, and mile of this crossing. We end the passage with a well-deserved dinner in Puerto Real to celebrate a journey well sailed.
