Una vez terminada nuestra travesía atlántica, pasamos a ir desmontando todos los equipos que no serán utilizados durante el periodo de navegación en el que mantendremos un perfil de dominguero. Entendemos que es lo mejor, ya que el ambiente marino, la necesidad de continuos procedimientos de mantenimiento hacen que los equipos se vayan deteriorando. Ya desmontamos la estación de radioaficionado, y los equipos de comunicaciones satélite. Volvimos a montar un tanque auxiliar de agua de 200 litros, y junto con los 330 litros del otro tanque se hace suficiente para pasar un fin de semana navegando, no necesitamos ir con instalaciones que no usaremos.

The United States had first introduced the world to the power of nuclear weaponry on August 6th 1945. Most of the world had seen the attack on Hiroshima, and three days later Nagasaki. There could be no doubt that we were in a new era of military power. But the question was whether this new power could be brought to bear in all aspects of war? Operation Crossroads would answer that question. The actual tests were carried out in Bikini Atoll, in the Marshall Islands, through July of 1946. The name Crossroads was appropriate, signifying the transition from conventional to nuclear warfare. Why Did Operation Crossroads Happen? The first thing you have to do is put your mind back in time. To try and understand was happening in 1945. The world was emerging from the end of a brutal war. Not only that but the planet had just witnessed the first nuclear bombs used in anger on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The expectation was that war was about to change. This episode we encounter a assortment of weather... blue skies one minute, storms the next and major flooding events in Queensland. With no marina berths available we get creative on finding sheltered anchorages. Waiting for our weather window to cross the wide bay bar takes longer than anticipated but we check out some of the islands in Moreton Bay while we wait, celebrating our littlest crew members birthday and getting some surfing in at Straddie.

We set sail from Padstow and head back towards Cardiff. The skipper is back on board and planning passages, leaving me to enjoy helming and keeping watch. This is my happy place as I do get a bit seasick down below when we are on passage. Seagull is sailing like a dream with her new copper bottom and at one point we manage 8 knots under sail, making us both extremely happy. Our new Rocna anchor is put to the test, and we could not be happier with the result. It sets very easily and held fast in F5 offshore breeze. We both slept well and we will definitely be anchoring out a lot more next season and enjoying life on the hook. Thanks again for watching our videos. We were both at the ends of our rope; having just moved aboard with our stuff in piles everywhere, no functioning water system, and both of us about to go into a week of work....the toilet broke. Somehow we got through that week with no functioning toilet (since I was working 12 hour shifts, I had no time to troubleshoot, and Kailey was busy with work, Marlow, and other household stuff). We knew we would have to take apart the toilet at the very least to service it, but also knew it was a distinct possibility that we would have to open up more of the hoses that were likely caked with years of use...essentially dismantling the entire system and starting *almost* fresh. But lurking in my dads garage was a purchase from the year previous....enter the composting toilet, "the Airhead". As with many boat jobs this video shows no projects entirely completed, but well on our way. Misool is the SE peninsula of the major island of Batanme in the Province of Raja Ampat, Indonesia. It is considered one of the "4 Kings" of Raja Ampat which really means areas dotted with very special rock formations and natural beauty which in turn make them amazing for cruising, hiking and diving. We cruised Wayag (depicted in the previous video), then Misool and left the other "2 kings" for the future. As I edited this video and looked back at the few days we spent in Misool a feeling of overall incredulousness creeped in. I had to pinch myself to realize it was for real. I said to myself, yes a place like Misool does exist and we explored it with Shaima! And what makes it even more special is that very few boats cruise through it as they are quite a bit North of the typical down wind Tradewinds route across Inodnesia. And, furthermore there are hardly any villages, nor local fishermen around, and very few surviving resorts after Covid so it is basically deserted. So we had Misool and Wayag all for ourselves something that I hope shows in the videos!
