Hello! I am hoping all of you my lovely viewers are keeping well. For those of you in winter like me, we're nearly through it folks! This weeks video is a bit mish-mash. Starting back in October 2023 with a chat about humidity and whether a dehumidifyer actually does anything on a boat, then jumping forward a few months (to 2024, not 2023 like the video would have you believe!) to look at some lovely portraits done by robert james photography - robert.jamesphotography@outlook.com. Follow me then into the present day (again, 2024 😉) with a sneaky postscript about the future.

Continuing my rehabilitation of a 1987 Precision 16 sailing dinghy with some fiberglass reinforcement under the chain plates. It's my first time attempting to do any fiberglass work. The Precision 16 is a lightweight Stephen Seaton-designed un-ballasted centerboard sailing dinghy with a planing hull manufactured from 1982 until the mid 90s. It was superseded in 1995 by the smaller Jim Taylor-designed Precision 15 (P-15CB and P-15K). #sailing #sailingdinghy #usedboat #boatrepair #projectboat

After voyaging from Canada to the UK with a separate crew, CSM sailed the 80ft Gran Mistral 'Weddell'', single-handedly from Southampton to Reykjavik, Iceland. There he met a new crew. After sail repairs, provisioning and safety training, the crew set sail for St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada; 1700Nm away. It was September and heavy weather was expected. Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I just picked up. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. In this episode I rig up the Moth and go for another practice session, third time in a week. Im trying to get as much time on the water and keep climbing the steep learning curve. I lucked out with a beautiful day of 8-12 knots of breeze, lots of foiling, new top speed and plenty of swimming and crashes. Enjoy!

We depart Kuala Terengganu with an unforgettable farewell, passing back through the drawbridge as crowds line the roadway and local boats escort us out. It’s a heartfelt send-off that perfectly captures the warmth of this incredible city. Heading south, the wind finally arrives — but straight on the nose — turning the sail into a slow and uncomfortable slog. As conditions build, we spot a small sheltered river protected by a brand-new breakwater and decide to slip inside. It proves to be a hidden gem: a perfectly calm, secure anchorage that gives us one of our best night’s sleep in days. At first light, we set off toward Tarempa in the Anambas Islands on an overnight passage. After a long night at sea, dawn brings us into a bustling shipping lane, where we carefully weave between tankers and freighters before making our final approach. Once checked into Indonesia, we’re invited to join the lively E-Festival — parading through town with the locals before a welcome dinner that’s suddenly interrupted by a classic tropical downpour! We finish with a full day exploring Siantan Island, visiting the Grand Mosque, the charming Dusun stilt village, the towering Temburun Waterfall, and the tiny town of Arung. Another episode filled with adventure, warm hospitality, and the vibrant culture of Indonesia’s remote islands. 🌴⚓ Timestamps if you like to Jump Right In: 00:00 Intro 00:32 Leaving Kuala Terengganu 05:20 Sheltering in Kuala Paka 07:48 2nd Reef Jamb 08:27 Heading off to the Anambas Islands 12:45 Clearing in to Terempa 14:07 Guests at the E festival 16:40 Island Tour WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world. It's coming to the pointy end of the boatyard arrow...and we're pointing it directly to all of the final jobs that have been hanging overhead. This week, Phoebe is away, so Josh rally's his mates to help him bog, fair and paint the hull, calculate the volumes of our onboard tanks, Brett returns to put the cherry on top of our port engines and we tick enough jobs off the list so we can justify the time to...wait for it...CLEAN THE HULL!!! It’s time to leave amazing Georgetown, Exuma, and begin the next leg of my solo sailing journey toward Cape Eleuthera. In this first part, I sail 55 nautical miles solo from Georgetown to Great Guana Cay, Exumas, catching the back edge of a big wind system. That means strong winds of 25–30 knots, powerful residual swell, and an exciting ride across some of the most beautiful waters in the Bahamas. This episode is all about the mighty ocean, the challenge of solo sailing, and the incredible beauty of the Bahamian waters, islands, and cays. This is Part 1 of the journey. Part 2 continues from Great Guana Cay to Cape Eleuthera. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the adventure. #sailing #SoloSailing #Bahamas #Exumas #CapeEleuthera #GeorgetownExuma #GreatGuanaCay #SailingAdventure #BlueWaterSailing #BoatLife

We are looking at two. ZARKAVA and VALYRA are two extraordinary 27 metre Hodgdon superyachts, both built in carbon fibre, both powered by triple MAN V12 engines and Kamewa waterjets, and both created with one very clear purpose: to go incredibly fast while remaining unusually quiet and comfortable on board. Commissioned by His Highness the Aga Khan, these yachts reflect a very particular vision of yachting. Speed was important, of course, with ZARKAVA reportedly capable of around 60 knots in the right conditions, but so was comfort. These were not simply fast boats. They were highly considered, technically advanced yachts designed to combine performance, refinement and serious engineering. Built by Hodgdon Yachts in the USA, with naval architecture by Donald L. Blount, exterior styling by Pininfarina and interiors by Redman Whiteley Dixon, ZARKAVA and VALYRA are pure custom builds with a remarkable pedigree. In this tour, Katia takes you on board ZARKAVA first, looking at the deck spaces, helm area, saloon, cabins, crew accommodation and engine room, before also showing you VALYRA and explaining how the two yachts compare. If you enjoy rare yachts, high-speed yacht design, carbon fibre construction, waterjet propulsion, or simply want to see something genuinely unusual in the brokerage market, this is a very special video. Day 2. Today the trip took a completely different turn. When I left Horta, I was very locked into this mindset of: either I go to France, or I don’t leave at all. Those were the only two options in my head. But then, out here sailing, I suddenly realized something very obvious: there are islands everywhere around me. Just because I left doesn’t mean I can’t stop somewhere. And with the wind forecast dying completely, my options were basically to drift slowly in the middle of nowhere for two days… or go explore an island. The second I realized that was actually an option, something shifted in my brain. So I turned toward Terceira. And honestly, I’m so unbelievably happy that I did. Because today reminded me why I love sailing so much in the first place. Not the miles. Not the goals. Not the schedules. But the freedom of it. The fact that you can wake up one morning and decide to go somewhere else. That the ocean can suddenly open doors you weren’t planning to walk through. I think after the Atlantic crossing I got a bit stuck in “transport mode.” Just get from A to B. Keep moving. Keep progressing. And today reminded me that sailing is so much more than that. It’s arriving in places you never expected. Meeting people you would never otherwise meet. Being welcomed with open arms by a sailing club on a random island in the Atlantic. It reminded me that this lifestyle is not just about crossing oceans. It’s about what happens along the way. And today… today felt really special. 🌊 ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology.
Buona visione e buon vento. ⛵ #InBarcaConDario #Vela #NavigazioneNotturna #VitaInBarca #Sailing
People always ask me what it’s like living on a sailboat. So here’s a tour of my home... While it’s blowing 26 knots outside 😅 A lot of people imagine life at sea as endless sunsets and dolphins. And yes, there is some of that. But there’s also a tiny kitchen where I somehow manage to cook, a navigation station that occasionally doubles as an office, a bunk that becomes the best bed in the world after a long watch, and a saloon where I spend way too much time sitting when the weather gets rough. It’s not a big house. It’s not a fancy house. But it has taken me across an ocean, kept me safe through storms, and somehow carries everything I need to live, work, and chase a dream. Not bad for a 36-foot floating home 🌊 ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology.
