What is involved and what it takes to go sailing ? ============================ ABOUT ME Back in 2019 I decided I did not want to be a 9 to 5 type guy anymore. I got fed up with this rat race like routine city life and I got hooked on the idea of sailing and living on a boat full time. But with 0 (zero) expirience that would be difficult to achieve... I took a Transport Canada course and received my first boat license... I watched tons of boat related youtube videos and got myself registered with dozen sailing forums and groups on a facebook... In May 2020 I came across a facebook post. Sergey was looking for a crew to bring his boat to the Caribbean. I travelled 1300 km from Montreal to Halifax to join him on his boat. The trip was cancelled two months later for legitimate reasons. Since I made my way to Nova Scotia I decided to discover this beatiful province before going back to Montreal I returned to Montreal February 2021... I have not given up on my dream of sailing. Due to Corona virus situation in the world It is just being put on hold... We lucked out! It seems the docks on the Islands are still pretty full, even after Labour Day. We expected to maybe cruise around and find nothing for the weekend, which would have kept us at the dock. I noticed that some friends were out, so I texted them and asked where they were and if there was a spot. They replied that they were on an Island, there were no extra spaces....BUT...they were leaving Saturday morning so if we got there around 10:00 am, we could swap spots! Tremendous! It was really windy and gusty by the time we left the marina on Saturday morning, but we got to Grenadier Island in plenty of time, swapped out the spots, and started to get settled. Some other friends contacted us, and we let them know that there was a free spot for their boat. So a great weekend was had with good friends! Chloe was the Star of the Show, and the weekend. She was constantly sniffing, tracking, and chasing any critter she could see. It was so much fun to see her so serious and alert as a Hunter! She caught nothing, by the way. On Sunday, heading back to the marina, we stopped into Huck's Marina for a fuel-up and pump-out. What a beautiful facility and really helpful staff! As the bad weather starts coming in, it's more important for us to take advantage of every weekend on the boat!

Let's just say the seas were not glassy and smooth... Before we could head south, we had to sail east quite a ways offshore to cross the Gulf Stream and saw almost no vessels of any kind after that. KLM Neomi is a traditional Phinisi boat which serves diving and leisure trips throughout the Indonesian archipelago. Neomi Cruise was built in 2018. The Neomi is a modern take on the traditional Bugis sailing boat, updated for today′s comfort and convenience. Made of teak and ironwood, the Neomi has ten cabins to house a maximum of twenty two guests. Each beautifully appointed cabin is equipped with a private bathroom (hot and cold water), TV and air-conditioning. The Upper Deck has 3 twin cabins, 1 double bed and 1 master cabin, each with a private balcony. On the Middle deck there are two double cabins with balconies, and on the Lower Level there are three twin cabins. Neomi boasts spacious lounge areas and an air-conditioned restaurant which has a TV and DVD player and also two jacuzzi are available on board. Neomi takes safety seriously. The boat is equipped with a satellite phone, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers. It further has an on-board water maker which can produce 10,000 liters / day. Each diver will be issued an ENOS diver location system to ensure their safety.

Separado, morando sozinho num pequeno barraco, com os filhos morando muito distante (dois no Canadá e a caçula em Paraty) já estava aceitando a vida sedentária. Fazia minhas cainhadas diárias e dançava eventualmente. O restante do tempo era ocupado com leitura, rede social e televisão. Em 2022 fui visitar seus filhos no Canadá e meu filho mais velho tinha comprado um pequeno veleiro para navegar no lago de Montreal. Então, num passeio nessa pequena embarcação, meu filho iniciou um diálogo mais ou menos assim: - Velho! Você já foi um grande aventureiro por que não faz mais uma aventura? - Que aventura, cara! – respondi. - Vir de Veleiro do Brasil até o Canadá. Você precisa sair de casa. Precisa de objetivos de vida. - Você está louco? Nunca naveguei e não tenho dinheiro para comprar um veleiro! – retruquei. - Você não tem uma Previdência Privada? - Sim. Tenho. Mas ela é para quando eu ficar velho. É para minha saúde – respondi. - Mas você já não está velho? (emitiu uma sonora gargalhada). Então você retira esse dinheiro e compra um veleiro. Comece a estudar, assistir vídeos e ler livros. Depois você vende o veleiro e repõe a grana. A sugestão do filho foi como um trauma mental para seu velho pai. A partir desse dia aprender sobre velas tornou-se minha obsessão. Tudo na na minha vida foi relacionado à navegação. Comecei a devorar livros e assistir todo tipo de vídeo no YouTube. No primeiro semestre de 2023 tirei a habilitação da Marinha para navegar em lagos (pré-requisito para as demais). No segundo semestre consegui a carteira de Mestre Amador e, finalmente, em abril de 2024, conseguiu a mais temida e difícil prova aplicada pela Marinha do Brasil: Capitão Amador. O material de estudo para essa prova foi enorme. Vários livros, apostilas, curso grátis no YouTube e sites pagos. Havia dias que o velho pensava que seria impossível passar na prova. Coisas estudadas era rapidamente esquecida pela memória sexagenária. A grana para compra do Veleiro estava resguardada. Era só esperar o momento oportuno. Entretanto, restavam, ainda duas questões muito importantes: arrumar uma companheira de viagem e equacionar os custos da viagem com sua pequena aposentadoria. A conclusão foi que a grana seria insuficiente, principalmente quando as despesas fossem em outra moeda. Para piorar, descobriu que chegando ao Canadá, seria muito difícil voltar no mesmo caminho, tendo em vista que existe uma corrente marítima contrária. O caminho de volta mais fácil teria que ser pela Europa e África. Ou seja, gastar em euros. O visto para entrada em cada ilha ou país corresponderá a um quarto da minha renda, sem contar comida, óleo diesel e manutenção no veleiro tudo em dólar ou Euro. Apesar dos estudos orçamentários indicar a inviabilidade do projeto, no dia 14/10/24 mudei para um veleiro adquirido na cidade de Salvador. O planejamento da viagem estima dois anos de vida ao mar, cujo planejamento pode ser verificado nos dois primeiros vídeos do canal “Veio Doido no Mar” no YouTube. Pretendo navegar pela costa brasileira, passar pelas Ilhas do Caribe, passar pelo Canadá, Europa e África. Em torno de 18 meses viajando.
