This weeks edition of #FridayFocus takes a look at our 3 favorite Mclube products Firstly we have Sailkote, this is a dry lubricant spray, great for anything that moves, to keep it slipping and working well. Next we have Mclube Speedpolish, environmentally friendly, give your boat a good wash with hot soapy water, then apply, using a wax on wax off approach. Your Hull will really repel that water and glide. And lastly we have the Mclube One Drop, just one drop is all that is needed, just add to any of your ball bearings in your traveler cars or similar, it will help to break debris and dirt away.
Purely as the title says this week. been detached far too long and kept being overlooked after deck repair. weatherproofed with butyl tape which i am loving using on my deck fittings. Gives me the sense of security that the fittings will not leak.
Ian will share the richness and challenges of his and Michelle’s transition from full-time jobs to being full time live-aboard nomads, while imparting a few observations and lessons learned along the way. As the backbone of the presentation, you’ll see the results of Michelle’s craft as a photographer, while Ian gives voice to their life transition. Ian and Michelle will take us along on the journey of getting the bug through to completion of their first year on board. This high-level photo journey will follow buying and preparing the boat and then moving onto their travels to Maine and the Bahamas to highlight various aspects of living aboard. They have struck a balance to avoid either a travelogue or going down technical rabbit-holes, but still including salient, actionable take-aways.

Fun video recapping the 2021 sailing season first shown during our annual year end awards banquet. This was a rough year, we had about 70% of our fleet damaged in a freak storm, half the season revolved around a few of us sailing and the rest under repairs or awaiting repair. Like normal, the video begins with a 1930's style NewsReel short. Actual video starts at 1:50 if you want to skip ahead. (https://youtu.be/oJqhGhcCdhY?t=111) Most of the music is by one of our fleet's founding members. Some Bensong and royalty free added too. See credits on video.
Alexander Marine, as exclusive importers of Ocean Alexander Motor Yachts, are pleased to present the Ocean Alexander 32L to the Australian & New Zealand boating market. With over 40 years of production expertise in this class, the 32 metre Legend (32L) is our pinnacle achievement. The popular Ocean Alexander 100 motoryacht first debuted in 2014 and nearly twenty units were delivered in just six years! The 32L retains the more traditional lines and bow shape loved by many owners with styling updates and incredible new innovation from acclaimed designer Evan K. Marshall. The alluring integration of more expansive glass, while lowering the bulwarks have allowed even more natural light into the spacious and comfortable salon. Further, the on-deck master suite has been enhanced with a more practical space configuration. This along with optional interiors from our Manhattan and Cosmopolitan concept portfolio creates interior architecture and design to meet any style. Please note: Alexander Marine is the official Ocean Alexander dealer for Australia and New Zealand. As such, we benefit from superior product knowledge and the ongoing resources of the Ocean Alexander factory and production staff. The Dubai International Boat Show is the most important and oldest boat show in the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East. The ultimate luxury and lifestyle event, this year’s edition took place from March 9 to 13 (it was canceled in 2021). The show happens in a perfectly located marina in the heart of the city. In the multihull section, many compact powercats were on show, and some shipyards that build larger units were also exhibiting, but without multihulls actually on display (this will be for future editions!). The star guest of the show should have been the 80 Sunreef Power Eco... but still being unloaded from the deck of a cargo ship and in customs clearance at the time of writing. Q: You mentioned that you use the gyro a lot at night; so when you're out on the reef and you're out on the charters for 3 or 4 days, or a whole week, you often moor behind the reef at night, and depending on tide and weather, you can have some rough conditions overnight. So tell us a little bit about the gyro at night, because a lot of our clients ask ‘is it noisy?’ ‘can you sleep with it on?’ What's your experience with that? A: Pretty much you can just turn the gyro on at the start of your trip and you turn it off at the end of the trip. It looks after the changing conditions anyway. So if it's calmer, it doesn't work as hard as if it's rough or it is compensating for that. But at nighttime, we leave it on at nighttime, particularly in those rough conditions and because it's mounted in between the engines in the engine room it's pretty well sound insulated and it's very quiet. You can't hear the generator and you can't hear the gyro over the generators anyway. Just makes you sleep nice at night, everybody wakes up in the morning not in the middle of the night - no one rolls out of bed when the tide changes 😊 ............................................................................... After loosing his first challenge for the America's cup in 1870 James Ashbury had clearly gotten the America's cup bug and was was back for the 1871 Cup with his new yacht Livonia. Only 12 months after his last challenge it was quite a feet to prepare a new boat to challenge the might of the New York Yacht club. Ashbury was one of the first to try and use the dead of gift to his advantage preparing consecutive challenges from 12 yacht clubs on successive days with the view of claiming the cup if he took victory in any of the races. This ingenious plan would give him the greatest chance of winning the cup after making the long journey across the Atlantic from the UK. The New York yacht club did not allow the 12 race challenge, while Ashbury was not happy about this he did gain a considerable advantage over the 1870 challenge with the New York Yacht club instead agreeing to race for the America's Cup in a seven race series of match races which helps the challenger by not having to battle the entire fleet of boats from the New York Yacht Club. The New York Yacht club was so confident that they would win the 1871 America's Cup no new yachts were commissioned, instead they selected the four best yachts from the 1870 Cup fleet race, one defender would be selected to race against Livonia each day. This would make winning the 1871 cup challenging for Livonia as one of Columbia, Sappho, Dauntless and Palmer would be selected to match the conditions of the day, given the defender a decided advantage over the challenger. This America's cup would be like many to follow with protests and claims of cheating on multiple levels ensuring the debate over who won the cup continuing long after the last race was finished. Columbia and Sappho each won two races to claim the Cup, with Livonia winning the first ever race as a challenger. Ashbury and his crew sailed races 6 and 7 against no opposition as it was their view that the series was not over, claiming they had won race 2 after a protest against Columbia for the direction they rounded the outer turning mark. While Ashbury claimed he had won the Cup 4 races to 3 the New York Yacht club held firm saying the direction of passage round the outer turning mark was optional, resulting in the protest getting rejected with the America's Cup saying the property of the New York Yacht Club. While Ashbury and his yacht Livonia failed to win the 1871 America's the were the first to take a race from the Americans and would have won the Cup if their protest was upheld. While it was small conciliation Ashbury record of winning on race was not be equaled until 1920. We hope you enjoyed Bottom Up Boats latest Cup Chronicle were we relieved how Columbia and Sappho defeated James Ashbury's charge Livonia who was representing the Royal Harwich Yacht Club

EN Calpe Bay offered us perfect upwind conditions with an apparent wind of 15 knots propelling the boat between 7 and 9 knots at 40° to the apparent...! Our super-G slalom skills came into their own south of Alicante for avoiding the Spanish fishing boats. But the passage south of the Iberian Peninsula looks like being a sporty one with a very active south-westerly front, which means a big swell and headwinds. The OC lowers her daggerboards and switches to sport mode. Sometimes passions come back. After some time away, music has once again found its way into my heart. Today, thanks to technology, it's easier than ever to create something meaningful in a short amount of time. It's time to return to doing what I love, letting myself be carried away by emotions and notes that tell stories. 🎶✨ 🎶"I Walk Alone" is a sonic journey through a city shrouded in solitude and mystery. The song begins with a short intro, setting the stage for the emotional journey that follows. It unfolds a deep narrative of independence and introspection. The lyrics of "I Walk Alone" tell the story of someone who, despite the challenges and the cold of life ❄️, moves forward with determination, leaving the past behind and finding freedom in the illuminated streets of the city 🌃. The contrast between the chill of the night and the glow of the streetlights creates an intense atmosphere, accompanied by a bassline that leads the rhythm and builds an immersive vibe. Each verse reveals a bit more of this solitary quest for self, while the chorus repeats the protagonist's lone, yet powerful, journey, finding their place in the world. The song explores the strength 💪 that comes from independence and the courage to face challenges head-on. With a bridge that fades between the sensation of a fleeting touch and a spark of freedom ✨, "I Walk Alone" is an emotional ballad that challenges the listener to look within themselves, fearlessly walking toward their own truth. Perfect for those who want to lose themselves in their thoughts during the night 🌙, "I Walk Alone" is an anthem of solitude that transforms into strength and beauty. 🎶
