I found this 1971 Buchan Star class racing sailboat on Marketplace for $500. She was destined for the junkyard for the aluminum in the trailer. This is part one of a series to bring this girl back to life and race her in 2023.

In this video, we install the electric oven and the washing machines. Then we set sail from Italy to Corsica, and further towards Sardinia, were we try our hardest to sail away from the horrible weather. We weren't very successful in this endeavour and we were forced to anchor in an open bay, as we got caught in a lot of fog. We could see a smaller, cozy bay quite close to our current location, which looked fairly sheltered, and therefore, we decide to try our luck. After that, all luck we might've had, disappears. The passage from Sardinien past Menorca and towards Mallorca is almost painless. We definitely learnt a lot from this trip. We give our stanard candid boat maintenance approach to repairing and prepping the hull and keel. As ever suffer some minor setbacks, including much trial and error. As ever we are learning as we go and are 100% open to your feedback on our attempted work. Key include sanding down the antifoul paint and rust on the keel using various tools such as a DA (dual-action) sander, an angle grinder, and use rust converter chemicals for the first time. In our own way we stress the importance of precision measuring in aligning the mast base to the deck, while joking about our own mistakes and slow pacing across months of work. Despite the challenges and messiness, we offer an exploration of routine boat maintenance tasks and honest reflections on DIY efforts. After a windy, sleepless night, we make a move at first light, arriving at Kioni just as other boats were leaving, which gave us great position in the bay - opposite the main dock and in shallow water to tie up and make for a perfect swimming space. Our friends 'Topo' (who we first met in Dubrovnik, Croatia) joined us and after spending the day catching up & swimming, we headed into town for dinner. What a delightful, character-filled town it was! From little stores, hand-made jewellery, local children fishing, to music and dining by the water. We shared a meal and laughs. After a few days and a deadline to be further North we set sail for an anchorage with high cliffs and crystal clear water. Unfortunately, being mid peak season, we couldn't find a space for us to tie-up and had to make a call where we would spend the night; either Vasiliki which is known for its wind, but a closer route for tomorrows trip, or the safe bet Nydri, with the bridge at Lefkas due to re-open tomorrow which would make for a shorter more protected journey. We opted for the later but found a spot on the way back for a swim to cool off. Want early access to our videos?
