After wintering our catamaran in Porto Montenegro, Awen was happy to stretch her legs and we were excited to visit King’s Landing as we start the sailing season. We were surprised to have the city almost entirely to ourselves as the world sorts out Summer ‘21. Social distancing wasn’t a problem at all! And all of a sudden that was it. A real life nightmare. I’m usually pretty calm in a crisis, but before we went to bed I was actually anxious this time. It was like my body was preparing me for what was coming, but still, you never really believe something will happen- it’s just the unknown that freaks the body out and you sort of settle with that feeling, hoping and feeling pretty certain that you’ll wake up to another day where it was all just a bad storm. I always think to myself – what is the worst that can happen – at it usually calms me down, but even knowing I’m not worried for our lives, the wake up call at 2:30 am, saying: Get up – we gotta reset! Is not what you wanna hear. And I actually didn’t. Laying there asleep next to our baby, what Cody said didn’t even sink in until a couple of minutes later, where my mind went: Wait, should I get up now? What’s going on? Why would he wake me up? Reset? Did he say reset anchor? Wait – that means running the windless. Millie will wake up. What do I do? After hiring a car we head inland to explore the Granite Skywalk (Castle Rock) where we find that a little research would have prepared us for the 2 hour hike uphill to the beautiful 360 degree views. We head to Elephant Rock to one of the most spectacular and protected swimming beaches from the southern ocean swells. After visiting the ANZAC memorial we inspect the amazing Chainsaw Sculptures. After watching the 2022 New Years fireworks from our boats, @LisaBlairSailstheWorld arrives in preparation for her attempt to set the record to solo circumnavigate of Antarctica (which he has now beaten and set at 92 days). After Jo and Karen offer the assistance of Chris and Pete, the boys help Lisa unload her yacht and even get roped in for vacuuming and scrubbing! In this episode, we voyage to the Isthmus at Two Harbors, Catalina Island. We take on 73.6 gallons (a new record) of diesel to top of the fuel tank and motor thru dense patchy fog and rain to the island. After some deliberation, we decide to anchor at Little Fisherman's Cove. Fortunately, the swells are mild and we have a peaceful night at anchor. Epidavros konnten wir nach der Lieferung von unserem Außenborder verlassen. Im Süden von Aegina fanden wir eine schöne Bucht zum Übernachten und versteckten uns hinter Sounion vor starken Westwind der dann auf Nord drehte..

Sailing from Millport, Isle of Cumbrae to Campbeltown on the Kintyre Peninsula was supposed to be a fairly straightforward passage..... It turned into almost every type of sailing there is, from drifting slowly along in almost zero wind to blasting downwind with reefed sails in 28 knots and then motoring in uncomfortable swells as the wind dropped again. Phew! A 'bad hair day' at sea 🤣😮 It was a really great fun sail and we arrived in Campbeltown Marina in beautiful sunshine. One night here and then it's off around the Mull of Kintyre... ‘Travels with Tilman’ Talk summary H.W. ‘Bill’ Tilman's climbing and sailing achievements rank amongst the greatest in the fields of twentieth century mountaineering and high latitude sailing. By the time of his disappearance in the South Atlantic in 1977, he had left a legacy of some of the finest travel books ever written. Quoted as an inspiration by both Chris Bonington and Robin Knox-Johnston, Tilman's books remain essential reading for those who embark on similar ventures. Born in 1898, Tilman was a highly decorated military leader who survived the brutality of the Great War and volunteered for covert operations behind enemy lines leading Albanian and Italian partisans during the second World War. Apart from this extraordinary wartime service, the rest of his life was spent climbing and sailing in remote parts of the world, stopping only to write the fifteen books that document his travels. Bob Comlay was one of only a handful of crewmembers who chose to return for a second high latitude voyage, earning a level of trust that gives him unique insight into the character of this self-effacing legend of twentieth century exploration. The talk covers a brief biography of Tilman with personal anecdotes from the two Greenland voyages of 1970 and 1971. The presentation includes a large number of unpublished colour photographs, archive documents and extracts from personal letters. So happy to be back at the Sandy Lane Yacht Club in Canouan*, a small island in Grenadines (St. Vincent). We stumbled across this marina two years ago and were pleasantly surprised with how beautiful and luxurious it was. So it’s fun to come back during the off-season and enjoy this hidden gem once again. *All of this footage was taken prior to hurricane Beryl which sadly devastated Canouan.
