Bonaire's Reef is a protected marine park and we were the only boat on site! We hopped off the boat and went for an amazing snorkel where we saw some of our favorites: trumpet fish, turtle and (Julia's favorite) a scrawled file fish. Recebidos por golfinhos e pela Maíra Salto com seus pais, a entrada na barra trouxe a sensação de ver um lugar familiar pela primeira vez, mas do ângulo do mar. Essa junção do pampa gaúcho com a vida náutica, com veleiros ancorados ao lado de campos com cavalos, é uma paisagem que eu não conhecia na minha própria terra. Foi também o momento da despedida do Duca, um grande parceiro de velejada. Antes de partir, ele me fez uma pergunta sobre sentir falta de casa que mexeu comigo. Para ele, a vida a bordo está prestes a começar de verdade, morando no barco em Porto Alegre e velejando no Guaíba, que ele descreve como "descobrir Porto Alegre de novo", uma cidade que o porto-alegrense não conhece pela visão da água. As imagens que encontramos aqui são surreais e únicas. Uma balsa transportando um cavalo crioulo, o Yacht Club vizinho de um campo com balanços de criança e lanchas ao lado de cavalos. É um outro Rio Grande do Sul, um que sempre esteve aqui, mas que só a perspectiva do barco revela. Um contraste fascinante com a imagem tropical que geralmente associamos à vela. La sortie du Pacifique n'est pas non plus une partie de rigolade. SynerCiel devrait enfin doubler le cap Dur demain matin. Les ennuis de Dick La nuit dernière, François Gabart et Armel Le Cléac'h n'ont pas fermé l'œil. « La mer, c'était les montagnes russes, raconte le skipper de Banque Populaire. Il y a eu des grains à 45 nœuds ». Au près serré, la vie à bord d'un monocoque de 60 pieds se transforme vite en calvaire. Pire encore quand les soucis techniques s'en mêlent. C'est ce qui est arrivé ce matin à 5h15 à Jean-Pierre Dick (Virbac-Paprec 3) lorsque l'attache textile (le loop) de son étai de solent s'est rompue. Cet étai est celui qui maintient le mât sur l'avant. La rupture d'un de ses points d'ancrages représente toujours un risque de démâtage. Heureusement, Jean-Pierre naviguait alors sous trinquette. Comme il était au près, dans une mer démontée, il a immédiatement abattu afin de pouvoir rétablir la situation : d'abord, récupérer son étai (avec le solent enroulé dessus) qui valdinguait dans tous les sens, ensuite le fixer à nouveau sur le pont. Une fixation de fortune car il faut maintenant remettre cet étai sous tension pour qu'il remplisse pleinement son rôle... Mais l'affaire est loin d'être terminée. Car à la mi-journée, Virbac-Paprec 3 était à nouveau en sens inverse de la marche, cap au 114. Jean-Pierre est toujours en train d'essayer de solutionner son problème. Dommage, car il avait réussi à combler une partie de son retard sur les deux larrons de devant... Cela dit, la voie est loin d'être dégagée et la situation météo, au grand large de Buenos Aires, est pour le moins obscure. Au live de la mi-journée, Armel Le Cléac'h avouait ne pas avoir les conditions prévues par les fichiers météo. Et au pointage de 16 heures, Banque Populaire n'avançait plus qu'à 6,5 nœuds, dans une zone de vent faible. Plus à l'Est, MACIF semble mieux s'en sortir pour l'instant. Il est en tout cas plus véloce (10,2) que son adversaire, même s'il progresse toujours au près serré. Au final, ces péripéties techniques et météorologiques profitent à Hugo Boss. Alex Thomson a encore gagné 39 milles en 24 heures et se rapproche lentement du podium virtuel. L'autre soulagement de Stamm A 1700 milles du quatuor de tête, Jean Le Cam vit une approche douloureuse des côtes chiliennes, à coup d'empannages. SynerCiel est à 235 milles du cap Horn. Son passage y est prévu demain (mardi) matin. Dans son sillage, tout le monde serre les dents en attendant la délivrance. Mike Golding devrait entrer en Atlantique Sud une douzaine d'heures derrière SynerCiel. Puis ce sera au tour de Mirabaud et de Cheminées Poujoulat.
