Episode 03 : Ventura to Santa Barbara - with Sailor Commentary at the end of the episode. This video documents the recent sailing trip I crewed on onboard the sailing vessel The Intrepid. We motor-sailed from San Diego, California to the San Francisco Bay area. 10 days, 111 hours at sea and 470 nautical miles. The uphill battle against wind and currents, sailing north on the west coast is no pleasure cruise. The crew were as follows: Tim Brill (Owner) Cody Brill (Captain and son of Tim) Nigel Howat (English Sailor/45+ years sailing experience) & James Frederick (thats me). With the afternoon breeze fading to 12-15 knots, Bow Caddy spied the Manly 16’skiffs getting ready for Heat 3 of the Club Championships with the starting line in Manly Cove. We caught some of the action as the fleet straight lined the bottom mark with a few of the port tackers getting a nasty surprise from those approaching on a late starboard gybe.

We left South East Asia and landed in Chennai India. We visited both the Kerala and Tamil Nady states. We tried some surfing in Mamallapuram and visited some monuments and temples. The beautiful stonework was everywhere. We saw the Ambavilas Palace getting right up close to some elephants. Mudumalai National Park had more animals to see but was fully booked. A dozen dolphins swim with our boat in the Chesapeake Bay! We head south through Virginia towards Norfolk and complete our journey through the Chesapeake Bay. A railroad bridge is stuck down, so we have to anchor early in the afternoon in Portsmouth, VA. Today was another near-perfect day for racing in Day Four of the 2023 ORC European Championship, co-hosted by Royal Malta Yacht Club and Yachting Malta. Blue skies, flat seas and 8-12 knots of wind kept the racing close in all three classes of this championship event featuring 37 teams from 11 nations.
