Finally back to sailing videos! In early September of 2025, we departed Tahiti with our dependable crew Mike for our sail to Tonga, which is approximately 1,500 nautical miles. This trip is notorious because there is a squash zone in the middle where low pressures coming east from New Zealand trip up the trade winds and can bring some wild weather to this area. We danced with the low-pressure systems by going north and south a hundred miles frequently along this westbound route with our trusty weather routers' advice. At 110m/361ft in length M/Y Jubilee was built by Oceanco and launched last week as the biggest yacht yet built in Holland, a yacht building country on the up and up. The superyacht has an innovative and visually stimulating exterior styling featuring flowing horizontal lines and shadows on her superstructure as created by Lobanov Design. Perhaps ironically, she looks almost organic and ocean like with these abstract man made forms. The product line begins with Marblehead weaves. Both Low Aspect and High Aspect Marblehead constructions are made with Fiber 104, the very best polyester sailcloth yarn, in both the warp and fill directions of the cloth. Fiber 104 has Super Tenacity properties. Marblehead Weaves & Fiber 104 are woven with Power-Shrinkage technology. The yarns and fibers achieve their maximum shrinkage during processing, which means that the fibers are in their natural physical state before they are sewn into a sail and hoisted up the mast. The maximum shrinkage allows the yarns to be woven together more times per yard than any other fabric.This process is called Interlocking™. The fibers Interlock™ more times than other fabrics, resulting in a great mechanical advantage in sailcloth. The result is excellent bias stretch resistance, stability and durability. Marblehead Weaves use Fiber 104 in both the warp and fill direction of the construction. Fiber 104 is the highest shrinkage polyester yarn used in sailcloth. The Challenge R&D engineering team conducted a collaborative search with leading fiber manufacturers and textile engineers. The purpose of the search was to find the highest shrinkage, highest tenacity yarn. The search resulted in Fiber 104. The high shrinkage makes the highest yarn count, most densely woven fabrics, with the greatest quantity of fiber interlockings. It is much more expensive than the other fibers used in Europe and the United states, and is exclusive to Challenge Sailcloth.

This week we have the home and seawall inspected on the house that Deb and I had an offer put in and accepted at. I hadn't seen the house in person when we made an offer. I had seen the listing, Deb had sent pictures and videos of the walkthrough and talked quite a bit about it with Deb who had been in it more than 1 time. We really love the layout of this house, but it was a compromise with the water depth not being deep enough to keep our boat here. But with the price where we had it, we could keep the boat the marina just a couple of miles down the road. In the end, there was just too much wrong with the house for us to want to move forward. It was a tough decision but we feel the right one to make. We rescinded our offer based on the findings of the inspection. That is ok, we will find another that has the things that we want. I am going to be going back to Florida soon since my Dad's health has so greatly improved. When I do we will sound out more areas that we like and see if we can widen our hunting grounds for our next location. We still really like the Punta Gorda area, but need to validate the depths ourselves since we have had so many conflicting reports of the depths. What a busy time! Which is why we decided to a break from packing up the house- to go surfing! Surfing near Toronto on Lake Ontario. That's right.....lake surfing....which is why we built a, very amateur animation, tutorial on the weather conditions that bring us waves on the lakes.
