The sun just dipped below the horizon as the gun fired for the start of the BWPS Tollgate Islands Race last night on Sydney Harbour. In the gusty WSW breeze - which hit 20+ knots at times - Andoo Comanche was straight out of the box, whipping down the harbour and out through the Heads in a matter of minutes. By the time the tail end of the 28 boat fleet rounded South Head and settled in for the journey south, the navigation lights were glowing across the water.

Stage 2 ia a stage marked by crucial decisions!. A whole new dilemma looms with the Scilly DST off Land's End. Many questions arise, which strategic choice will be the wisest, and above all, who will emerge victorious from this second stage? It was at 2:03 p.m. this Saturday that the line for the second stage of La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec was officially closed by Bruno Le Breton, president of the Race Committee. According to the racing instructions, this closing time was defined based on the racing time of Basile Bourgnon, first on the line, increased by 20%. The skipper of Edenred crossed it yesterday at 5:59 p.m. after 4 days 4 hours 19 minutes of racing. At 2:03 p.m. this Friday, two skippers Susann Beucke (This Race 1st Female), clocked in at 2:30 p.m. on arrival in the Bay of Morlaix, and Piers Copham (Voile des Anges) still approaching at the time of writing, had not crossed it in time. As required by the rules of the French Sailing Federation on a time race, these two solo sailors are DNF (Did Not Finished). They get two extra hours compared to the race time calculated for a line crossing at 2:03 p.m. today. Quand j'ai voulut prendre DRV pour le carénage, il n'y avait plus de place pour mettre le bateau sur ber mais on m'a proposé une sortie d'eau avec une prestation haute pression et une remise à l'eau dans la foulée. Il devait me le sortir à 17h mais on m'a proposé de le faire plutôt avant midi pour une remise à l'eau à 14h . C'était impeccable pour faire les quelques petites retouches et pouvoir naviguer le lendemain .

The story continues on Swan 651 "Geronimo", with the year 2011. Starting with the winter season in the Caribbean, from the Grenadines to British Virgin Islands. After the Atlantic crossing, the summer season was spent mainly between Golf of Naples, Amalfi coast, Sicily and the Baleares, ending with Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. The next Atlantic crossing was taking part in ARC 2011 and the year ended in the British Virgin Islands. 12,800 nautical miles logged on Swans in 2011.

In this video, I first describe my experiences of all the Caribbean islands I have visited so far – including my personal assessment of whether and how worthwhile it is to arrive there as a sailor after crossing the Atlantic. Which island is a good place to stock up on provisions, where is it cheap or rather expensive, which island is more unspoiled, and where is the best place to have repairs done? Then we're off: I show our journey from Martinique via Dominica to Guadeloupe – with impressions of sailing, nature, and life on board. A change in our plans leads to Fortune Island. An Island left in Ruins, and rich in history beneath the beautiful white sands of it's beaches. From here, everything changes. The easy cruising gives way to long passages, bigger weather windows, and the excitement (and nerves) of preparing for the Windward Passage. Refitting the huge rudder on a Hans Christian is a massive challenge. It requires pin point accuracy to position massive oversized bronze fittings precisely in line and them literally beat them with a hammer! We also have the whole drive train to rebuild with a new Bruntons prop with blades that swing through a large area forward and backward when we reverse, so will we be able to position that with room to swing in the small aperture we have between the rudder and the hull?
