Ce coup ci c'est parti pour les vacances. Nous commençons par une journée sous le soleil sur un magnifique Dufour de 40 pieds. C'est idéal pour faire découvrir la voile et ça nous fait rêver un peu . Ensuite, c'est le départ pour Ouistreham, car oui nous avons profité au maximum des cousins et de la gentillesse d'Evelyne et Marc, du coup nous nous sommes couchés tard. Du coup une petite navigation, pour avancer, mais pas trop longue, car encore fatigués de la veille. Nous connaissons bien le port de Ouistreham, c'est facile d'y arriver à n'importe quelle heure et en plus, nous aimons bien nous y rendre. Cette année, nous voulons aller le plus vite possible vers les Îles Anglo-Normandes. On espère que cette année soit la bonne.

I completed the second corner of GB in the last video, crossed the Pentland Firth and arrived in Orkney. This video sees Full Circle on the move again after a 5 day break. My wife flies up to join me and Marion and Stephen are on board as well, all the way to Largs. In this video we travel about 800 miles from Juneau to Hatcher Pass where we find an absolutely stunning hike on Marmot Peak. We first take a ferry from Juneau to Haines where we begin our time on the road. We journey through the Haines Highway Summit on a rainy day after crossing back into British Colombia reaching Haines Junction in the afternoon. The following day held another border crossing back into Alaska where we found a nice campsite on Indian Creek between Tok and Palmer. Our third travel day held views of the Matanuska Glacier and errands in the Palmer/Wasilla area. Finally, it was time to see Hatcher Pass which exceeded ALL of our expectations. Our first night was on a small pullout on Archangel Road with stunning 360-degree views. The following day held the most beautiful hike of our trip so far. An approximately 4 mile out and back hike up Marmot Peak held insane views of the Talkeetna Range. Once you gain the ridge, a special knife blade path takes you higher to the proper summit. We will never forget that hike. That afternoon we explored a little more and were rewarded for it. After driving to the end of Upper Willow Road, we found a campsite on public land with a triumphant view of the whole valley. The boys slept well that night after they opted for an after-dinner hike close to the campsite. What an amazing place! We hope you enjoy and thank you for watching!

The Classic Mariners’ Regatta has been run in Port Townsend for many years and, as the name suggests, is open to all sizes of classic wood boats. I crewed for Ward on his 33ft Garden designed sloop, built in 1948. It was beautifully maintained and still had much of the original equipment. Crewmate John had sailed dinghies in his youth, but since then had only been a powerboater. Of course neither John nor I had set foot on the boat before, whereas Ward had been sailing Aura for over 20 years 23 boats entered, in 3 classes, big, medium and the 26ft Thunderbirds. It was glorious weather; a F3-4 on Saturday, a bit less on Sunday. We couldn't help but wonder what was stopping the owners of the hundreds of other boats left in the marinas from going out. The racing was of course dominated by Martha, one of the local schooners, it was built in 1907. See here for more http://www.schoonermartha.org/ I was a bit too busy to take much video during the races themselves, except we all stopped to watch Martha when we kept crossing tacks as we beat out to sea during the long distance race. Ward was very pleased that after the first two round the cans races on Saturday we had two first places on handicap and even crossed the line first in one race. So the pressure was on for the long race on Sunday. A slow beat out against a very strong tide meant the local boats gained hugely by playing the back eddies. There was considerable confusion as to the actual course as the PRO changed it by radio, unfortunately a broadcast some racers didn't hear. We did, but even so we played safe on the run home and rounded every mark "just in case". It didn't matter - we were so far ahead we were still first over the line and first on handicap in Class B. We came second overall behind the best sailed local boat "Sparkle" and easily won Class B with three bullets. With the boat nearing completion we are starting to think about our next destination. The last thing we want to do is stay in one spot with a newly refit sailboat. We take the time to head over to the west coast of Florida and check it out from Bradenton south to Fort Meyers. We really like the Punta Gorda area. The entire Charlotte Harbor area. We checked out the waterways all the way from the Peace River near Punta Gorda down to the barrier islands of Cayo Costa and Boca Grande. We explored the clear waters of the bay and the calm, clear blue Gulf of Mexico. We saw dolphins and manatee and stopped by a small little-uninhabited island and did some swimming. While we were swimming, we saw a tarpon swimming in the water. We even had lunch at a quaint little cottage and restaurant on the island of Cabbage Key. The boat work is getting ready to continue, but this was an excellent break from it. It was spring break for Chazzy (12-year-old), so we took advantage of the fact that we have a camper now. It is awesome that we can just connect to the truck and head out. We have it completely stocked with everything we need, so off we can go. Heck, we even did the most red-neck thing possible, and that was we camped in a Walmart Parking lot on the drive out toward Punta Gorda. Here are a few links to the places that we visited and stayed. After boat chores, long passages and limited grocery stores, a bit of time in the Virgin Islands is a real treat. The boys hop off the boat so Teasy can have a week with friends aboard. After they return from Florida we connect with the sweet Aussie family on Vantage.
