The beautiful MASTER CABIN is full beam and on the Maindeck with ensuite full beam bathroom with Spa tub, shower and bidet. The master is inter connecting to the study and also a double guest cabin with shower, ideal for a nanny or small children. Two VIP CABINS can be found on the Bridge deck and have ensuite with bath and bidet. There are three spacious DOUBLE CABINS below on lower deck. They are all 3 the exact same size. In this weeks episode we do little sailing and plenty hiking! We continue our adventure on the Isle of Arran. Do you think going for a 6 hour hike with three dogs and a kid is a good idea? Well, we did! The Isle of Arran is an island off the west coast of Scotland. It is the largest island in the Firth of Clyde and the seventh largest Scottish island, at 432 square kilometres. Goat Fell is the highest point on the Isle of Arran. At 874 metres, it is one of four Corbetts on the island. The mountain, along with nearby Brodick Castle, is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. If you're planning on visiting Arran and climbing Goatfell, keep in mind that the mountain stands sentinel above Brodick Castle and reaching the summit takes between 2 and 5 hours, so pack plenty of supplies and make sure you are properly equipped. It took us over 6 hours! If you visit Arran and climb Goatfell, don't forget to visit the souvenir shop on your way back and grab a tub of the famous Arran ice cream.. you won't regret it! Who are we? We are a family of three with three dogs, sailing the coasts of Scotland, exploring one island at a time – for now! There is no set route or plan. We will go where the wind and life take us. We have two golden retrievers and a bernese mountain dog – Hachi, Luna and Meems who sail with us. Last week, (Friday 28 January 2022) we carried out some exciting work on Götheborg. We’ve made two new yards for the ship, a main yard and a fore yard. (Video on how to make a new yard: https://youtu.be/1870t8r0F60). One of the final steps is to put on iron rings, that are used to fixate the joints of the yard. The work is done in the historically correct way; the same way these large riggs were built in the 18th century. The rings are precisely measured to fit the exact place on the yard where it’s supposed to go. They are heated to 800 degrees Celsius in an oven, carried over on hooks to the yard, then pushed and pounded into place, and shaped with big sledgehammers. This involves fire, smoke and a lot of work. Finally, the rings are cooled down with water, which shrinks them, and fixates the different parts of the yard. This is a rare piece of craftsmanship, as it’s only done when building new yards, bowsprits and masts. Götheborg is one of very few ships in the world that use this technique.
