It was pretty easy to decide what to do next....the leakiest port light on the boat (aka the waterfall)! What we were thinking we would be a relatively easy removal process turned into a fight to get it out. In the removal process we severely damaged the inside paneling. Once out, we realized that the new port light was too big to fit in the hole. After we made the whole bigger, made and stained a new panel it was time for install. The installation went relatively smoothly. We are happy to report that the project was a success! The building has been opened daily as a café over the past fifteen years, and has proven to be a popular place for local people and tourists to meet and eat. It is hoped going forward that the new building might also be opened in the evenings as a restaurant and available for events. The clubhouse was built in the 1970's and was originally funded from members' donations. Originally, only the upper level was built on top of a steel structure, and later filled in below to create toilets and changing rooms. Over the years the steel has corroded and the building is no longer safe. It is time to do some significant repairs, as well as to take the opportunity to update the facilities to modern standards, give better access to disabled users, and to meet current standards of Safeguarding. To repair the building we are going to need to replace a significant amount of the steelwork. This work is being carried out by professionals. Once they have finished, we will be replacing the front of the building with new doors and windows and redecorating the inside of the building. The white plastic cladding around the building will be replaced by something with better insulation properties. Whilst we are known locally as "the sailing club", we have many members who are engaged in other water sports such as keelboat sailing, windsurfing, wing foiling, paddleboarding and kayaking. We also have an active social membership that run events throughout the year. This is a huge project, that has come at a difficult time for the club during the cost-of-living crisis. A project of this size is going to cost the club a huge amount of money. Sailing is not all Champaign and Caviar. Toni and I woke to the forecasted pouring rain while anchored on Moments in Time. Since we had no agenda for the day, we decided to stay dry and catch up on some boat chores. There are always boat chores. We completed engine inspections, traced a leak in the black water system, added ventilation under the main mattresses, installed and adjusted fishing rod holders in-between the rain drops, diagnosed and corrected a boat speed sensor issue, swabbed the cockpit deck, and updated various logbooks. Nous quittons La Corogne avec une seule fenêtre météo possible : passer juste derrière une dépression, avec 5 mètres de houle et un coup de vent annoncé le lendemain. Pas vraiment le choix… on doit boucler le convoyage et rejoindre les Sables d’Olonne. Quelques heures après le départ, un grain nous surprend : 29 nœuds. On réduit, on enroule, on tient bon. Heureusement, le gros coup de vent annoncé dans la nuit fera finalement « seulement » 26–27 nœuds, sans rafales. Le Golfe de Gascogne est vide, personne à l’horizon durant toute la traversée. Dernière nuit : en plein quart, je découvre le mystérieux plateau de Rochebonne et ses dizaines d’épaves sur la carte… ambiance mystique au milieu de l’Atlantique. Et puis enfin : le chenal des Sables d’Olonne, on vit la même image que les skippers du Vendée Globe ! On boucle un périple de 1840 milles nautiques et, symboliquement, la fin de notre formation à la navigation. On se sent prêts. We found a company in Auckland, Henley's, who make polymer cutlass bearings and they gave us a great tip on how to install them...using liquid nitrogen! We have never seen this done before but it sounded way too much fun to ignore so we gave it a go and managed not to cause too much damage. As a provider of Yachting Australia accredited Safety and Sea Survival training, the ORCV Instructors participate in ongoing professional development and re-accreditation. The Yachting Australia 7th Annual Instructors and Principals Convention included a workshop the Team at Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter service (http://www.lifesaver.org.au/) conducted on helicopter rescue procedures, winching excercises, aviation Search & Rescue, and dealing with hypothermia, at their base in Botany Bay. In this video taken during that workshop, the casualty is being lifted using the hypothermic strop.

The start of the 2016 Transat singlehanded race was on May 2nd at 2.30pm. Sadly the cold front had not yet appeared so the weather was drizzly and visibility poor. But you can see the two 100ft trimarans Macif and Sodebo plus the "small" 50fters starting. The monohulls started at the far end of the line. The Ultime multihulls were recording speeds in the high 20's and took under 1/2hour to reach the Eddystone, nearly 10 miles from the start

Am Wochenende lösten wir das Geburtstagsgeschenk für Chris ein. Wir hatten über "Get your Guide" eine Fahrradtour durch den Dschungel Bangkoks gebucht. Hierfür fanden wir uns zur Mittagszeit am Treffpunkt von „spiceroad“ ein. Zwei sehr nette Guides stellten sich uns vor und stimmten uns auf die ersten Meter innerhalb des Linksverkehrs von Bangkok ein. Vor uns lag eine 4-5 Stunden dauernde, 25 km lange Tour abseits der Touristenpfade und durch den Dschungel. Ein Traum!!! Begleite uns auf unserer Reise um den Globus 🌍. At the RC44 Portoroz Cup, it all came down to the final top mark rounding of the final race: Team CEEREF of local host Igor Lah picked up a penalty and, having to complete a mandatory turn, dropped her to last place. Meanwhile a second place in this race for Team Aqua allowed Chris Bake’s team to clinch victory overall by just one point from Team CEEREF on this Slovenian stop of the 2018 RC44 circuit, despite their having come last in today’s first two races. In fact the top four boats all finished within two points here, with Aleph Racing and Peninsula Petroleum putting in strong final day performances leaving them tied on points in third and fourth respectively. The RC44 Portoroz Cup 9 May until 13 May is the second event of the RC44 Championship Tour which pits the world's top businessmen and the best sailors in the industry compete in high-performance one-design 44-foot carbon racing yachts.
