In this episode, David from sv Riff Raff and Andy from @sailingsole continue on as crew. Due to deteriorating forecasts to the north, we abandon plans to sail to Santa Cruz and opt for Glorietta Bay in San Diego. Another change in the forecast has us changing our destination to Mission Bay, San Diego. Ultimately, we decide to head back to Avalon after scouting the Mission Bay Mariner's Basin anchorage.

Skipper Chris & Jon from Ullman Sails discuss the design & performance of Saga47swan main Sail. The main sail with 3 deep reefs was designed by Ullman sails based on the type of sailing done by Saga47swan. The requirements given by Nathalie & Chris were : Heavy Duty sail for high latitude cruising, Atlantic Ocean heavy weather, Caribbean cruising and a full circumnavigation. The solution was a " Voyager Series" main sail with 3 deep reefs.
In this episode we face a weather conundrum. At Balance Catamarans, quality isn’t a marketing slogan — it’s a process that runs through every layer of the boat, from structure and engineering to silence underway and long-term owner support. In this in-depth conversation, Phil Berman (Founder) and Dean Paarman (Director of Operations – South Africa) break down what building for quality actually means in practice — and why it matters when your boat becomes your home, your transport, and your safety system at sea. This video goes inside the invisible details that define a Balance Catamaran: • Carbon foam-core bulkheads • Fully glassed deck joints (inside and out) • Hand-faired interiors with no cosmetic covers • Rigidity, silence, and long-term durability • Electrical systems built around modern 48V architecture • Quality control loops from factory to waterfront • Training, documentation, and real-world owner support You’ll also hear why stiffness equals silence, how quality directly impacts safety offshore, and why Balance chooses to build fewer boats — better — rather than chase volume. This is not about perfection. It’s about pride, process, and constantly raising the bar. 00:00 Introduction to Balance Catamarans 00:25 Passion, Heritage & the Balance Philosophy 01:26 Structural Quality: Bulkheads, Carbon & Rigidity 04:46 Craftsmanship, Fairing & Invisible Details 06:41 Training, Apprenticeships & Skilled Teams 07:31 Engineering, Weight, Strength & Innovation 14:10 Owner Experience, Silence & Offshore Comfort 17:48 Electrical Systems & 48V Technology Evolution 22:08 Sailing Skills, Training & Owner Confidence 22:47 Owner Community, Feedback & Continuous Improvement 24:48 Conclusion: Striking the Balance

#MudarDeVida #VidaSimples #VidaNoMar #CortesDoSal #HashtagSal #Vela #Veleiro

Horizon breaks the normal design rule to create E66 with a fabulous exterior. We design oversized windshields at main deck to provide panoramic views for the guest even while seated. The owner can enjoy the beautiful sea view without impact by UV light and sun heat. There are 3 staterooms with 3 heads. The master room is full beam width with high quality King-size bed. In the master room, there is a "big eye" side window to allow amount of natural light into the room to reduce the need for artificial light. With eco-friendly and energy-saving designs to extend the green living for the future. There are two single beds in port side cabin which can be combined in one comfortable double bed to utilize the space completely. The plenty amount of space design make the owner more fun with family and friends. Aft stern garage combining teak hi/lo platform brings the owner more fun on all kinds of activities on the sea. Choosing E66 can bring you different living style than before. For more information please contact Horizon Motor Yachts Australia on 07 5577 9009 or visit our website www.hmya.com.au

During the Plumbing project on DreamChaser, we installed a water distribution manifold for all the plumbing lines and located it right under the cabinet floor panels in the upper salon/galley. It was a added bonus that the floor panels were not screwed down to the floor beams, and it made it easy to store or hide items under the floor. There is enough room to store a few cases of soft drinks or beer easily between the tankage and the sides of the hull. During this water plumbing project, we noticed some water on the floor and I assumed it was where the old plumbing lines went from copper to poly tubing, however after checking them, I noticed that the actual hot water heater tank was leaking. That was not part of the plan as it instantly made us focus on this items to resolve and have to put the rest of the plumbing project on hold to get this done. (We will create another post on the Hot Water Heater another day so I won’t go into detail here) After removing the hot water heater and putting it up on deck to start to inspect it, I realized just how bad the floor panels looked under the cabinets. This was a good distraction, I was not exactly moving as quickly as I was hoping I would have on the plumbing replacements. The lines are all in and new faucets, however with the hot water heater leaking, I was at a standstill until it was replaced. I pulled out the floor panels so that I could use them as templates to mark, measure and cut the new panels. This is the first project I have done where I was setting up and cutting pretty decent sized pieces of wood. When we were in Kemah, I would take the parts over to a wood shop I had setup in a rented space, but we are a little over 6 hours away by car from that setup, so…. it was time to just setup something temporary. My temporary workshop consisted of a fold-up 6 foot table, an extension cord running from the boat up to the little spit of grass at the end of the dock, and my cell phone blasting out some Bob Marley on Pandora. I used the old panels as patterns and cut out the panels for a good tight fit back in the cabinet floors and then sanded each piece to 220 grit. I also cut a small hardwood block that I will epoxy to the bottom of the hull in the forward bilge and mount the shower sump to it rather than the hull directly. Lastly, I also cut out the forward head substrate for the granite countertop. Once everything way cut, dry fit tested and then sanded to 220, it was time to load it all up on the car and take everything over to the storage shed to paint, glue and clamp where it could be left overnight to dry. I started with the small hardwood block and used a forester bit to make small indentations for the attachment feet on the sump allowing it to sit flush and solid on that block of wood. The next step was to paint that block of wood as well as the two floor panels. We opted to paint these with “topsides” paint so that it would have a boats exterior paint job making it easier to clean in the event something spills in there. Making the new panels will also allow me to mount the new hot water heater in a different orientation to provide more room for storing kitchen supplies. The last thing that we did was glued the new granite counter-top to the substrate that we cut so that it can be mounted in place with screws from the underside of the counter. When finished there will be a fiddle rail mounted all the way around countertop as well to keep things from falling off of the counter in a sea-way. I must admit, the cooler weather, the ability to setup our small working area and to get some new wooden panels, cut, sanded and finished, felt really good. We have not been making the progress on this boat like we did on the last one and it felt good to get some large items take care of. A few weeks ago, I put up a small video on the Youtube channel letting everyone know that we are working on a 4 part series on replacing the plumbing lines within the boat. We have the footage, and I have some of the blog content written, however It is taking longer than I expected so please be patient for a couple of weeks while the editing process and writing continues. Wishing you safe travels and fair winds. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "How to repair a wooden mast, boom, spar or Bulkhead (Step by Step) " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nxr-yxUjvQ -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
Doing a test of two Star Shower laser Christmas lights. The laser light system was plugged into a music light show automation system that turns the lights off and on to Christmas music. I have them along with the traditional Christmas lights. Don't want to get on a ladder this year, but I think I may have to add on to the top edge of the garage to more fully engulf the house.

Merci Mayotte
TRAILER: BLUEWATER DESTINATIONS EPISODE 6: Bluewater Cruising A film by British Sailor, TV director, and circumnavigator, Michael Briant. From his six-part series. Stream with a SailFlix subscription at... https://www.sailflix.com/bluewater-destinations-ep6-bluewater-cruising Buy / Rent series or individual episodes at... https://vimeo.com/ondemand/bluewaterdestinations Join Michael Briant in the Caribbean aboard his bluewater cruising sailboat, Bambola, a 1980 Moody 36 center cockpit sloop. Michael begins with a brief tour of some of his favorite Caribbean destinations: Rodney Bay, St. Lucia; Luperon, Dominican Republic; English Harbour on the south coast of Antigua; and the mist covered mountains of Martinique. Michael then turns to the question: how difficult is it to do bluewater cruising? His answer is straightforward: anyone with a bit of experience and well constructed, heavy boat can do it. He takes us on a tour of Bambola and shows us the on-deck modifications he's made for safer bluewater voyages. Next he introduces us to an Austrian couple who have been cruising for six years aboard their catamaran, Jolly Swagman. They've sailed from the Baltic, through the Mediterranean, then across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. We tour their vessel and see how they've arranged and modified her over the years. Finally, we return to Bambola. Michael notes that most bluewater cruisers spend 80 percent of their time on anchor and you want your vessel configured to make life as convenient, comfortable and safe as you can. He takes us below for a tour of his cabins and the equipment he's installed for comfortable and safe cruising - especially single sideband radio that connect cruisers around the globe. This leads to a discussion of weather - one of the most important concerns for cruisers. He introduces us to two prominent weather forecasters and routers who many cruisers rely on though single sideband radio contact. Michael concludes his bluewater sailing discussion with the cost of cruising. He gives some weekly cost estimates from his own experience and that of fellow cruisers. This film provides a very information packed 40 minutes for anyone considering heading out there.
