Olympic Classes Day 1

We leave northern Italy and cross into the mountains of Slovenia. From here we wind our way down and cross into Croatia and enjoy the coast again. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

Só agora estou postando o vídeo sobre a desconhecida, porém maravilhosa, barra do rio Jaguaribe, em Fortim, CE. Travessia entre Areia Branca, RN. segunda na Costa Norte, as 60 milhas, fiz em doze horas. A saída da Barra do rio Mossoró, em Areia Branca, é ruim também… tive de motorar por sete milhas, até próximo porto de sal, Termisa, para quinar para noroeste e começar a velejar, de fato. Ao chegar próximo à barra do rio Jaguaribe, fiquei fazendo zig zag, procurando algum pesqueiro para pedir orientação ou até mesmo, me guiar pelo canal. O que aconteceu com um barco que, antes de me guiar, recolheu uma rede de lagosta. O rio é maravilhoso. Casas lindas debruçam, com deks de piscinas e heliporto, na maioria delas. A fartura de embarcações a vela, jangadas, saveiros e botes bastardos, colorem o azul, do rio, com velas multicoloridas. Por terra fui com meu filho Eduardo, de férias, matar saudade da linda Canoa Quebrada. Local que conheci a muiiitos anos. Saída para Fortaleza, tb foi tensa, com onda quebrando pela proa. Aff Já ouve caso de veleiro que naufragou na temida barra, infelizmente. Depois de Galinhos, Areia Branca, ambas no RN, Fortim, no CE, foi a terceira das onze barras e enseadas, que baixei o ferro, até a ilha de Marajo. We have had a few emails and messages asking if we were ok and what was happening with Nelson and such like and felt it better to address this in one go. Sadly Nelson had a stroke and was left partially disabled, he was struggling with normal day to day life and as difficult as it was, I was left with but one kind option , which was singularly the most difficult and soul destroying choice I’ve ever had to make. With no facilities for cremation on Leros , Nelson had a sea burial on the entrance to the bay here out between the two lighthouses marking the entrance to the harbour. Natalie being back in the uk was on a video call with me when he was laid to rest , anyone that has had a special dog in their lives will understand how hard that was. Little did we know then that more bad fortune was to hit us , Nats mum having been ill for a relatively short period passed away just a few days after Nelson. She was an avid viewer of our videos and the sole reason we started making them , evolving from a simple phone video to drones and underwater shots made it all the more exciting for her and her comments adorn each video - she will be missed. So for now we won’t be putting out any videos in December as I will join Nat in the UK for her mums funeral and spend a little time with family. We made these videos for Nats mum and made new friends and followers along the way so We WILL be back in January with some more travel and sailing videos, but for now we will take a short break to lick our wounds and regroup. Island - wer träumt nicht davon, einmal im Leben die unglaubliche Natur dieser Insel erleben zu können? Obwohl mein Budget eher knapp war, habe ich im Oktober spontan einen Flug nach Island gebucht und bin 5 Tage später schon losgeflogen. Ich habe mir für zwei Wochen einen Mietwagen geliehen und bin in zwei Wochen einmal um die Insel herumgefahren. Ganz alleine. Die Natur hat mich wahnsinnig beeindruckt und ich hatte eine wundervolle Zeit, wenn auch nicht ganz ohne Schwierigkeiten. Im zweiten Teil fahre ich entlang der Ostküste in den eisigen Norden. At the close of the Cannes Yachting Festival, we had the opportunity to sail aboard Lagoon’s flagship, the Eighty 2. We had first discovered this large catamaran exclusively in Bordeaux, and it has proved to be lively under sail and economical under motor – 11.6 US gallons (44 liters)/hour at 2,000 rpm. The captain, with 2,000 nautical miles logged on his circumnavigation of the Iberian Peninsula, seemed very satisfied with his new vessel and especially with his quarters at the forward end of the port hull. Traffic flows smoothly thanks to the wide side-decks and the forward door in the nacelle. From the flybridge, the crew enjoys a 360° view of the water and can easily swap from one helm station to another. We would just like to see slightly deeper halyard bags and more secure access for working at the boom. In the starboard hull, we were able to test the famous opening side panel that acts as a terrace on the water in the Owner’s suite. Despite being proportionately narrower in beam than the Sixty, for example, the deck offers a flybridge of some 540 square feet (50 m²) that can be fitted out as desired, while aft, the platform connecting the sugarscoops covers 236 sq ft (22 m²)... Inside, you’ve got the choice of galley up or galley down. The Lagoon Eighty 2 will soon be available in a power version under the name of the Eighty 3 - hull #1 is already in build.
