If you visit Palawan, do not miss a tour on the longest navigable cave in the world. It is also one of the NEW wonders of the world. You can either take a day tour departing from Puerto Princesa: it will take about 2h to get to Sabang on the west coast of Palawan. From there you will have a short boat ride (10min) to the beach and the departing point on the river. Regular tours are about 45min and cover 1,5km of river. If you are keen of exploring more of the river and be less crowded, take the long tour that take about 2h15 to cover 4,3km of river (you need to apply for special permit at the PP river office beforehand). You could also spend a few days in Sabang area to be in less than a rush. Thanks to the assistance of the management of the Puerto Princesa Subterrranean River Park. Filmed in May 2017.

These sculptures are by the artist Anthony Gormley and are on Crosby beach, north of Liverpool at the tip of the Mersey estuary and facing the Irish Sea. According to Gormley, the purpose was to explore man's relationship with nature and the beach, with the ebb and flow of tides, was a good place to explore this. Our impression was that each was alone, utterly alone and facing the ravages of time and tide in a losing battle as the sea claims them. We felt guilty leaving them there at the end of the day. Sebastien Saulnier and Christophe Affolter will be racing Sun Fast 3300 MoshiMoshi in IRC Two-Handed. The Corinthian team from St Malo, Brittany, sailed the boat from France to Lanzarote to take part in the RORC Transatlantic Race. “The dream started about three years ago,” commented explained Sebastien Saulnier. “It was wonderful to sail across the Atlantic with friends and family, but I wanted to do it in a race. Two years ago, I met Christophe who has done a lot of RORC racing. We felt good together from the first moment and this is the first race that we can do and it was not easy to get to Lanzarote. Due to government restrictions, we could only sail from L’Orient on the 12th December and we saw 48 knots of wind in the Golfe de Gascogne. We did make it past La Coruna, but the weather was so bad we had to turn back. We are totally in love with the Isle of Gigha, it is the most beautiful place I think we have been so far. It had the most stunning beaches with white sand, fabulous flora and fauna and amazing food. The shop was well stocked and Ardmore Gardens are a must. Views from one coast to the other side were pretty special, and we woken up by mooing cows swimming in the sea. A truly unique place and we aim to come back for a longer visit if we can. Moorings are easy to pay for online, there is somewhere to dispose of rubbish but no access to water. At the end of the pontoon is a high quality restaurant called the Boathouse, but it is advisable to book if you wish to eat there as it gets extremely busy. This place will always be special in my heart, I loved it. The inaugural Green Tech Boat Show took place earlier this year at MDL's Queen Anne's Battery in Plymouth. It was the first show of its kind to showcase green marine technology, and to highlight that the marine sector and boating can be clean, green, and sustainable. I finally pluck up the courage to screw some much needed cleats into the Mirror Dinghy. I can't tell you how much advice I have had over this. Basically I ended up getting way too much advice, so I decide to just get them screwed in and used!! We sail South down the Yasawa and Mamanuca Island chains. From Sawa-I-Lau to Blue Lagoon, down to Waya Island, Kuata Island, Navadra Island, Castaway Island, Mana Island, and finally back to Musket Cove; Malolo Lailai Island. This completes our round trip out East, and will be our 'home base' for the remainder of the cyclone season.

Being on a schedule can be dangerous, especially for sailors as you may set sails, when the weather and sea state is not safe. We had a deadline to reach Plymouth, Britain’s ocean city, within the next two weeks. Looking at the weather the conditions were F3-5 with slight to moderate seas, no issue for our Swan 47 and it’s adventurous crew . The problem! The wind was going to be NE or E for the next 10-12 days .. which meant close reaching all the way to UK . We didn’t have time to wait for another weather window, so off we went. We spend the next two week close reaching into easterly and NE winds, reefing and shaking reef as needed . We went so far north that we were only 50 nm from the fastnet rock and Ireland with its lovely pubs - it was hard to tack away from that ! In the early morning of day 14, we spotted the iconic lighthouse on Bishop Rock , the crew was cheered up by the landfall at Isles of Scilly . The hardest thing about sailing in the Bahamas for almost 5 months is to leave the Bahamas! Unfortunately it's July, hurricane season is well underway and it's time to cross the Gulfstream once again. You can always plan as much as you can but the reality is that we are the mercy of mother nature. So we literally go with the flow and change plans as needed. Nous quittons Aruba pour rejoindre Carthagène en Colombie. Une traversée mythique… mais redoutée : celle de la péninsule de la Guajira, souvent surnommée le Cap Horn des Caraïbes. Les premières 24 heures sont parfaites, le bateau file à 8 nœuds de moyenne. Mais la deuxième nuit, tout bascule : un grain violent nous surprend à 22h, 45 nœuds par l’arrière, malgré notre retenue de bome, le choc et trop violent, ça casse, la bome fini son empannage et casse à son tour. On finira la traversée sous génois seul, avant d’atteindre Carthagène de nuit, fatigués mais heureux d’être arrivés. I'm still asking myself what does motivate and I haven't identified it. This is your weekly Global Sailing highlights show, the World on Water, January 17th, 2025. The 11th edition of the Royal Ocean Racing Clubs Transatlantic Race, launched in spectacular style, with perfect sailing conditions just outside Marina Lanzarote. The stunning backdrop of Arrecife, and the excitement in the air, set the stage for an unforgettable start to this iconic ocean adventure. This is the latest video from Charlie Dalins' sponsor Macif. What a great race, how good was his boat and his planning. It's a requisite to have a strong team behind the entrant. Francoise Gabart, a previous winner, built a strong team around Charlie. It paid off, big time. The Globe 580 Transat saw 12 entrants racing from Lanzarote to Antigua across the Atlantic. Many who compete in the Transat aim to continue their journey by entering the Mini Globe Race, building on their Atlantic crossing experience. 15 entrants will take part in this ambitious circumnavigation event, requiring participants to sail around the world in their Class Globe 5.80 yachts. Great Britain’s Ian Williams and his Pindar, by Manuport Logistics Team, of Richard Sydenham, Jon Gundersen, and Gerry Mitchell, have been crowned champions of the inaugural Macao Match Cup, the opening event of the 2025 World Match Racing Tour. Williams defeated New Zealand’s Nick Egnot-Johnson, and his Knots Racing crew, 3-1 in a tense final. By popular demand the 2025 52 SUPER SERIES returns to two venues, which were new to the circuit in 2022, and 2023. They are followed by an overdue visit to Cas-cais Portugal, for the third event, the Rolex TP52 World Championship, the fourth is hosted by the ever popular, Puerto Portals, in late August, before a long anticipated return to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, in Porto Chervo, for the season’s finale in September. In the Royal Ocean Racing Clubs, Transatlantic race, IRC Two, Andrew and Sam Hall’s, Lombard 46, Pata Negra, from Great britain, has made a great start to the Transatlantic Race to lead the class on the water, and after IRC time correction. Pata Negra is also estimated to be second overall for the race. Second on the water just 10 miles behind Pata Negra is Class 40, Tequila, also from great britain, skippered by Alister Richardson. Third on the water, but estimated to be second in class after IRC time correction is Jouko Kallio’s, Swan 651, Spirit of Helsinki, representing Finland.
