In this episode we take a few days rest ,swimming and snorkelling before Blown Away departs Meganisi and heads south towards the land of SPARTA , famed for it's ruthless warriors and unconquered terrains, legend has it that the Spartans threw their deformed new borns over the cliffs and into the seas. Whilst rounding the southern tip of Lefkas we find a fellow sailor in trouble and stop to assist, we take them under a long line tow to safety and spend the night in Sivota. The following day we leave for Ithaka to meet up with a you tube channel that we watch called Sailing Exodus (Wim and Anja) and swop sailing stories over a coffee. The sailing between the island of Lefkada and Ithaka was beautiful , a beam reach in 15 knots of wind from North West gave us six to seven knots of boat speed and Blown Away lifted her skirt and danced. Another storm in the anchorage. This time our dingy was not in the davids but on a rope behind the boat. The wind picked it up like a leave and turned it upside down causing us to loose our flipflops, peddels, gastank, inflatable floor and the outboard was completely under for over thirty minutes. After a couple of trips down to Kilrush over the winter and some help from the team at Mast and Rigging Ireland the Bottom Up Boats crew was reading to sail their newly acquired J109 "Joie de vie" half way around Ireland to her new home in Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland. With a good weather window forecast the team was quietly optimistic that they could all complete the journey of a life time. The plan for day 1 was adjusted after discussion with the friendly marina staff, the plan was to leave Kilrush before first light, riding the outrushing tide in the Shannon river on the way to Portmagee. A beautiful sunset and an early night gave way to a heavy fog. After spending an hour or two in the marina lough and no sign of the fog lifting the Bottom UP Boats crew decided it was too dangerous to take on the ships in the Shannon without the correct radar gear. The only option was to head into town for a full Irish Breakfast and way for the tide to come back in enough to get on our way. By early afternoon the sun was burning off the last of the fog and we were underway, the plans has to be readjusted as we would not be making slow progress into the tide on the way out the Shannon river. We adjusted our course for Fenit Harbour in the hope we could make up time on day 2 of the J109 delivery. The passage to Fenit was great with the harbour masters looking after us, giving us a ride into the local pub. After talking to the local we planned for and early night so we could depart before sunrise to try and make up time by flying down the west coast to Cape Clear Island and the more southerly point of the island of Ireland. Wow this anchorage was beautiful. We sailed our catamaran sailboat to a remote spot on the island of Espírito Santo in the Sea Of Cortez and had the place all to ourselves. This is what cruising is really about! We had such a relaxing weekend it really felt like our sailing dreams were coming true. Swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, and relaxing.

Kurz vorher unternehmen wir eine Shoppingtour durch einen Supermarkt in San Juan, um ein paar Lebensmittel als Gastgeschenk für die Familie Nicoles mitzubringen. Bei der Auswahl der Lebensmittel, was hauptsächlich in der Familie benötigt wird, verlassen wir uns auf die Mitarbeiter vor Ort. So landen Reis, Bohnen, Wurst, Milchpulver, Eier, Mehl, Öl und ein gefrorenes Huhn im Einkaufswagen. Nicole, ein dreijähriges Mädchen, erwartet uns bereits zusammen mit ihrer Mutter, Großmutter, einigen Kusinen und Gemeindemitarbeitern in ihrem Dorf. Alle gucken uns neugierig an und wir probieren uns in einigen, wenigen Brocken Spanisch, um uns mit der Familie bekannt zu machen. Ein von uns mitgebrachter Kinderrucksack mit Einhornmotiven kommt gut bei Nicole an, noch mehr freuen sich die Kinder allerdings über die im Rucksack versteckten Lolli´s. Damit sich die Familie ein wenig über uns und unsere Heimat ein Bild machen kann, haben wir ein kleines Album mit Familienbildern, unserer Heimatstadt Hamburg und typisch deutschem Essen zusammengestellt. Google Übersetzer war behilflich, ein paar Texte in Spanisch als Erklärung dazu zu schreiben. Die Gemeindemitglieder berichten uns über die gute Zusammenarbeit mit Plan und freuen sich sichtlich, uns in ihrem Dorf begrüßen zu dürfen. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Plan International ist ein internationales Kinderhilfswerk. Auf unserer Reise wollen wir nicht nur in Traumbuchten chillen sondern Programmländer von Plan besuchen und die dortige Arbeit dokumentieren. On the first night Three Ocean 50s capsized, the Ultims powered ahead while vthe 18 Imocas battened down as the class 40s had a mandatory stop into La Coruña on the North West corner of Spain. Punishing conditions. The 46th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race is underway. An impressive international fleet of 117 yachts are contesting the 46th edition of this compelling and historic offshore race. Following the captivating start from Valletta’s imperious Grand Harbour, a 606-nautical mile challenge lay ahead featuring an anti-clockwise circumnavigation of Sicily before finishing back in Malta. After the scarest moment in life, Eric Marsh aboard his yacht, Sunbear, finally arrives in Mauritius, and for the first time, he opens up about his terrifying man- overboard experience. It’s the kind of moment every sailor dreads, and Eric’s raw story captures the real danger, courage, and determination behind the Mini Globe Race 2025. We thank Christine Turner who was on the dock in Mauritius for capturing this special moment! Monohull line honours has been decided at the 2025 Rolex Middle Sea Race. Crossing the finish line in Marsamxett Harbour, Malta, at 05:44:07 CEST, Black Jack 100 took the title in an elapsed time of 2 days, 17 hours, 44 minutes and 7 seconds. Success for the 100-foot Maxi yacht, skippered by Tristan Le Brun and owned by Remon Vos, was highly coveted. Last year, Black Jack 100 had to settle for second on the water after a thrilling duel with Scallywag 100. The two yachts met again in July at the Rolex Fastnet Race, where this time Black Jack 100 claimed line honours, turning the tables on her rival. This week, eighteen double-handed crews will depart from Le Havre to embark on the Transat Café l’OR, a storied transatlantic race that has traced this oceanic course since 1993. Covering 4,350 nautical miles, from the English Channel down into tropical trade winds, their destination is Fort-de-France, Martinique. In this 17ᵉ edition, the IMOCA fleet joins Ultim, Ocean Fifty and Class40, four classes, four courses, four winning duos. Almost a year to the day since Emirates Team New Zealand won the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup the team are back out sailing with their AC40 from their home base in Auckland. At the same time, announcing a new mix of exciting young Kiwi sailing talent and multiple Olympic medal winning experience joining the sailing team in their defence of the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup in Naples in 2027. With one last Foil elimination round on Sunday, the IFCA Funboard European Championships Slalom Foil & Fin came to a close after five days of spectacular racing. Once again, the “funboard” boards – both Foil and Fin – returned to take centre stage on Lake Garda, hosted by Circolo Surf Torbole under delegation from the Italian Sailing Federation. Racing took place every afternoon in perfect Ora winds from the south, which consistently stayed above the minimum range required for Foil (below 15 knots) and Fin (above 11 knots) racing.
