Our second big project on "Cuddles". Originally, we were planning on keeping our marine toilet and just wanted to fix it. I've dealt with marine toilets before and right away decided to replace the hand pump assembly and one of the hoses since there was a leak. After spending money on new pump assembly and new hoses and whole day crawling in some tight spaces, I thought I was done. Week later we ended up with the same leaking issues and at that point we were done with marine toilets, really done!! We researched composting toilets a few months earlier and didn't want to spend the money on it but after dealing with all of existing toilet issues, we decided to pull the trigger and get Airhead composting toilet. In this video, you will see our struggle with our marine toilet and eventually taking it out and installing new Airhead composting toilet. We also ended up changing venting location for our composting toilet after a month with Airhead. With our new composting toilet, there is no more smell, no more pump outs, no more random leaks. Sailing Coco Once through the Corinth Canal we head off to find a nice little anchorage just around the corner of the canal mouth! We spend the night chilling out at anchor and Alf heads to shore to find some well deserved Greek food, which didn’t disappoint. We wake up in the morning to another beautiful anchorage, have some brekkie which was left over Greek food and set off. Taking a gentle sail down to Athens, we find ourselves tied up to a ferry dock as there were no anchorages and no berths available at any of the marinas. Luckily the dock security guard said we could stay for one night. So, with no hesitation we head off to TGI FRIDAYS and enjoy a well deserved drink and an evening on land with some nice food, something we haven’t done for over a week! The next morning we manage to squeeze into a marina and spend the next few days editing videos.... in a hotel. The WiFi in the marina was non existent and the heat in the boat was unbearable. So we treated ourselves to an Aircon’ed hotel room. A few days later we have new crew... Alf’s mum Adele, and his cousin Alyssa. We spend a few days exploring Athens and take them on a little sail around the Greek coast. Follow our adventures sailing the Mediterranean Sea, living on our sailboat! Donna and I took the next step in our sailing training by completing Sail Canada's 5 day liveaboard Basic Cruising Standard course. This course is designed to take people with no experience - like us - and give them the skills they need to sail during the day in familiar near coastal waters. The skills required are broken down into ashore skills (otherwise known as knowledge) and afloat skills (otherwise known as practical abilities) and virtually ALL of them were new to us. But thanks to our patient and capable instructor Gord (check him out at starlightsailing.com) we were successful and are now Sail Canada certified skippers at the Basic Cruising Standard. We completed this course aboard Gord's boat "Starlight", a 32 foot Aloha boat built in Toronto in the 80s. If you're curious about this model you can find more information at https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/aloha-32. She may not be the newest or most luxurious sailboat on the water, but Starlight had everything we needed and by the time we were finished our course we had a definite soft spot for this beautiful boat. Living aboard for five days definitely helped us start to get some ideas of what we want in our own boat when the time comes. The weather was all over the map over the five days, with gale-force wind-driven waves on our first day all the way to warm, sunny, and dead calm conditions on our last. We learned SO much and saw SO much marine wildlife! We were both amazed at how fast the time flew by - and how tired we were by the end of our cruise. Our focus was on learning so we didn't record any of our actual lessons. I am also learning more about what camera equipment I need to record interesting video out on the water. The action camera I have now is fine, but it lacks the image stabilization of newer ones so I've already picked out a replacement for it. I also unfortunately tried using a poor quality ND (neutral density) filter to help with overexposure on it and while the video looked fine on the camera's screen, once I imported it to my computer I could tell that it is yellowish and hazy. I've thrown that ND filter away and will make some other adjustments in the camera to improve exposure. Finally, I've realized that I need something better than my phone to record wildlife video. I haven't quite figured out what will work best for me in that department yet, but I have a few ideas. Just like we're learning how to sail, we are also learning how to tell our story through video. We'd really appreciate any comments you have, whether they are words of praise or constructive criticism. We're SO excited about this new adventure in our lives and we want to share it with you in a way that is meaningful, so we thank you in advance for helping us to do that. Since this video was made Mustang have obtained approval for MOB Lifesavers in their lifejackets and the Danish Maritime Authority has ordered MOB Lifesavers for their instructor/inspectors to take out to sailors to show how retrieving a casualty back on board can be made easier with an MOB Lifesaver in the casualty's lifejacket. We conducted 30 man overboard retrievals at Southampton Boat Show 2021. Our star cast was Ellen, Ed, Wendy, Jesse and Bo, with Tom as 'safety officer'. And of course the headliner of the show were the MOB Lifesavers in the SeaSafe lifejackets. Without a Lifesaver in the lifejacket the casualty would not have been rescued. To achieve your Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award you need to complete the Residential aspect of the award. This involves spending 5 days and 4 nights away from home on a shared activity with people you have never met before. What better way to achieve the award then sailing and having an adventure with others on a Classic wooden yacht! Golden Vanity lends herself really well to Residentials. She was built in 1908 and she takes teamwork to sail. She has a lovely deck to hang out on chatting to your fellow crew mates and newfound friends. If the weather is not so nice in the evenings, then down below there is a cosy saloon. During the Residential you can take the RYA Competent Crew Course. This is a beginners sailing course and you will get a certificate at the end. You will learn lots of nautical jargon, a number of knots, how to raise and lower the sails, how to steer, what to do if someone falls overboard and lots more. All under save and friendly instruction of our experienced skipper. If you have already done a fair bit of sailing on a gaff rig and have done the RYA Day Skipper Theory course then you can do the Day Skipper practical course. This course will teach you how to be a skipper. On one evening/night you will do some night sailing. Other evenings you will be either an anchor or alongside in a marina or on a buoy. There will be opportunities to have a look around ashore. The DofE Residential trips will be mixed gender. Due to the layout of the boat everyone will be in the same cabin and a curtain will separate males and females. In this video, Adam upgrades our lifelines which we think might be as old as Tāiko. We make the decision to remove the very old stainless steel lifelines and exchange them with dyneema which is approved by New Zealand's CAT 1 regulations. La particularité de cette nouveauté ? Ses ailes solaires bifaces qui se déplient en navigation : les cellules photovoltaïques orientées face à la mer permettent ainsi de récupérer la réverbération du soleil sur la mer. Au total, l’installation solaire est en mesure de produire 6 kWc, ce qui est considérable pour un catamaran de moins de 10 mètres. A 6 nœuds, l’autonomie est illimitée – de jour s’il fait beau. La deuxième innovation technologique du M9 est l’interface de commande de type automobile. L’ordinateur de bord contrôle tous les paramètres et gère le système d’ancre virtuelle : les moteurs sont connectés avec la position GPS pour « tenir » cette dernière sans avoir besoin de mouiller. Un troisième point mérite l’attention : les ailes solaires repliées participent, avec des panneaux mobiles vitrés et des toiles ad hoc, à transformer la partie centrale du powercat en un espace clos de 12 m2 au sol, baptisé « cabine de pont ». La table du carré s’abaisse et des coussins proposent un couchage de 2 x 1,40 m. Les aménagements se font cosy et intègrent la cuisine. Dans les coques, on peut compter sur deux cabines et un cabinet de toilette. Le pontage avant privilégie le trampoline, plus léger qu’un pontage rigide.
