In this episode we sail 175 NM from Port Segur in Spain to Port Gruissan first to the sailing racing Mecca for Americas cup Barcelona but after that it´s time for us to leave Spain and we go right into the Mighty Lion of the Mediterranean Sea - Gulf de Leon in France this is home of the infamous Mistral but also where we plan to meet up with friends. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. L’idée de cette bôme enrouleur dans ces années était de simplifier le rangement de la grand voile et simplifier également les manœuvres pour prendre un ris. Contrairement aux bômes enrouleur de nos jours, la voile s’enroulait simplement sur la bôme et non à l’intérieur de celle-ci. Malgré cette simple modification à la bôme, ce modèle n’a pas duré bien longtemps, puisque le système occasionnait une grande déformation de la voile lorsqu’elle était partiellement enroulée, devenant alors bien moins performante. Dans cette vidéo, nous montrons les modifications que nous avons apportées à la voile et à la bôme afin de convertir une vieille bôme enrouleur en une bôme avec l’accastillage standard. Roomy main saloon with well thought out galley adjacent and breakfast bar/serving countertop. Walk out the dooors to the large cockpit and then out to the swim platforn accessed thru the transom door. There is a ladder access to the flybridge here or a staircase up from the pilothouse. Lower station with full instrumentation is a great place to run the yacht out of the cold and rain or in airconditioned comfort on hot days. The flybridge is a another great living space and provides unlimited views to run the yacht from the fully instrumented upper station. The tender is stored here and can easily be launched by one person with it's electric davit. This is a great crusing design with economical diesel engines that can still provide continuous cruising speeds of 17knots when desired.

We look at some of the uses we made of the power tools and then do a review of how some of the tool could be improved by a few changes in design. These are mid-range tools in terms of price and resilience, but a cheaper tool will sink at the same speed as an expensive one if it falls off the boat, so there seems little point in buying the most expensive tools on offer and it is not like we use them every day to make a living. For occasional DIY they are fine. So, the verdict is that they are a great set of tools with a few minor flaws and we expect to find them very useful on the boat. The fact that they are CORDLESS rather than wired to the mains supply makes them (in our opinion) much, much safer to use when afloat. Disclaimer: Ryobi had nothing to do with this video nor its content and certainly paid us nothing because all the money involved flowed from us to them, not the other way about (more's the pity!!). It is a solo race of around 3,500 nautical miles which connects Saint-Malo to Guadeloupe – the port of arrival is Pointe-à-Pitre. The first edition took place in 1978; it was won by Mike Birch – the Canadian sailor has just pass away. This 1978 edition recorded the superiority of multihulls over monos; since then, every four years, we have to deal with separate classes. There are two for monohulls: IMOCA and Classe40. There are two for multihulls: Ultim and Ocean Fifty. A fifth category brings together legendary sailboats and/or skippers... This is the Rhum Class (Rhum Multi and Rhum Mono). The record for the event is held by Francis Joyon during the 2018 edition in 7 d 14 h 21 min 47 s. Francis Le Goff is Race Director. He is responsible for the 138 participants in this 2022 edition – a record! We were able to meet him. Thanks to the invitation of Suzuki, which equips fifty Highffield semi-rigid boats responsible for securing the body of water, we were able to welcome the Ultims and the Ocean Fifty before their passage through the lock to reach the basins. This year, the organizers orchestrated this parade to the delight of the public. Because the Route du Rhum is also an incredible spectacle on land, a unique atmosphere.
