We spent the day with Robert's Island Adventures in Exuma, Bahamas, while staying at Sandals Emerald Bay. The full day trip was amazing and included Thunderball Grotto, swimming with the pigs, the famous sandbar, an excellent lunch on the island, swimming with nurse sharks, snorkeling David Copperfield's mermaid and piano statue, looking for sea turtles, and an incredible stop on iguana island.

This Marina Life is our monthly podcast, talking all things marinas, boating and the marine environment for those who share a love of the water. In each episode, marine podcaster, Ceri Hurford-Jones, is joined by members of the MDL senior management team together with leading experts, partners and berth holders across the MDL community to discuss a wide range of trending topics, from exciting marine innovations and events to pressing green issues. In this particular show, you’ll get to hear about where you can keep your boat safely and securely as Ceri meets up with three different boat owners who keep their boats in one of the many MDL Marinas on the South Coast. Join us this week as we sail from Sines to Sagres. Goodbye Atlantic Coast, and hello Algarve Coast of Portugal. What an unbelievable day at sea, watch as we caught a tuna fish in the Atlantic! This is a massive achievement for us and we are very proud. Certainly had lots of ups and down, but here we are, we have made it (in one piece) and now we get to enjoy the tail end of the warmer weather along the Algarve Coast, the sunniest stretch of Coast in Europe. CURRENT LOCATION: https://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/SV-GTFO/ IN THIS VIDEO: We’re finally off! With final weather checks done, boat inspections complete, and provisioning locked in, we officially set sail for Horta in the Azores. Spirits are high as we hit our stride — and celebrate Dennis’s 21st birthday on Day 2 with homemade brownies (courtesy of Captain Ann ) and a full-crew serenade. But celebration quickly gives way to the rhythm of passage life. Karl rigs up the hand reels with his eternal optimism (Mahi Mahi, tuna, anything!), but after a full week, the fish are winning this round. A dramatic shift in weather just after our live stream (watch here) has us racing to douse our big purple spinnaker moments before squalls slam us. Quick thinking keeps gear intact — and nerves steady. Rain, wind, calms — this passage has been a roller coaster of conditions. Sometimes we fly. Sometimes we motor. Sometimes the silver lining is a salt-free deck and a good night’s rest. Dennis gives a quick radar tutorial (“red blobs = bad”), and we talk about how we use weather forecasts to make fast and safe decisions. Life aboard settles into a rhythm: laundry, soft shackle making, editing, reading, and when needed — fast action to keep everyone and the boat safe. Schatzi holds down her new throne (a fully converted saloon-bed!) like the queen she is. Her sea legs are growing stronger, even if the nights get a little tough. Hit play for this leg of our Atlantic crossing — with all its highs, lows, birthdays, breakdowns, and the beauty of bluewater life. #sailing #azores #passagelife #bluewatercruising #boatlife #offshoreadventure #dogsonboats #oceanpassage ABOUT OUR CATAMARAN: We love our new Balance 482 - it's a perfect size for a cruising couple to handle and is a great "balance" of performance and comfort. One of our favorite features is the excellent ventilation since we mostly live as "hookers" (aka at anchor) where the boat automatically turns into the wind so we stay cool and we don't need to battle mold. We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. ABOUT US: We saved for a our future boat, sold everything that we owned, and shipped the rest in a container to Cape Town, South Africa. We then flew there and explored South Africa by way of a safari and touring Cape Town before moving aboard our boat. We then sailed to Saint Helena, Ascension Island, Fernando de Naronha (Brazil), Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch and French side), the US Virgin Islands (Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas), the British Virgin Islands (Anegada, Norman Island, Jost van Dyke, and Anegada), The Bahamas (Inagua, Crooked Island, Long Island, George Town, Staniel Cay, the Exumas, and Eleuthera). We then sailed back to the United States, making landfall in Cape Canaveral, Florida. From there our destinations are endless! Both Dennis and Ann grew up military brats with Army fathers. Dennis (the Colonel) served 30 years in the US Army and his retirement pension helped us retire in our 50s. Ann (the ship's Captain) wrote Test Automation in Python and Java. Dennis and Ann met on Match.com where Ann had in her profile "Do you want to sail the world with me?" Ann easily brought Dennis into sailing, and he loved the GTFOplan of retiring early and sailing the world. After many years of saving, living on one income but earning two, and cutting back on everything possible, they saved enough to buy a Balance 482. Follow them as they get real about boat life and all the hassles of buying a new boat because we all know N.E.W. means Not Everything Works. A jammed anchor chain, a shifting wind, and the quiet truths that come with movement. What began as a simple sail to the other side of Skiathos, Greece became a meditation on change, stability, and impermanence. This episode unfolds through challenge and calm—revealing how the rhythm of boat life mirrors the rhythm of life itself. From “This too shall pass” to the tangled anchor chain that kicked it all off, this is a reflection on how even the smallest disruptions become part of a greater flow. Traveling on the ICW changes by the hour. You can be open bays and then in canals where there is no wind. There are so few places you can see so much of America and really understand the off-the-beaten-path aspect of the waterways of the ICW. A friend once told me the ICW is the back roads of America's waterways. One thing it is not is boring. We really enjoy watching the world slide by, but there is always the call of the open ocean, and we feel it pretty strongly. All music licensed through Epidemic Sound

It’s been a while and the bike started up immediately. It was ready to get out of storage and get on the road again. Two boat projects this week. The wind transducer, a Garmin gWind1, on the main mast quit working. Although Karen does occasionally go up the mast, we hired a rigger this time to travel to the top of the mast and grab the instrument. Hopefully, it is still under warranty and can be repaired or replaced quickly. A few episodes earlier, we fixed a leak on deck that was caused by a cable clam. The ceiling in the crew cabin had to be partially cut out in order for the leak to be diagnosed. Steve custom made an access panel to close the hole in the ceiling. A few dolphins swam by while we were working on deck. They are so graceful and it’s always a thrill to see them and hear air escaping from their blowholes. Also thrilling was the firework display we experienced off Isabella's bow while in dock. Several boats cruised by slowly which added to the picturesque view. We did a little sightseeing by visiting a National Monument that was instrumental in the early 1860’s by successfully testing the newest technology of that time, rifled cannons. Can you guess which fort we visited?* Talking on deck we answered a couple of questions from viewers and talked about our future plans. Our lease is over in October. We will probably cruise south all the way to Texas. Wait and see… Naturally, we did some dancing as we love moving to music. Thank you for viewing this video.
