Amazingly, I have been given photographs of Tally Ho high and dry on the reef, taken from the boat that towed her to safety! Because of the accident, part of the hull was rebuilt, but unfortunately not to the original lines. I assess the change in shape, do a little bit of lofting, and remove a lot of hull planks to give me space to rebuild the boat back into her original shape. #325 Despite living on our current sailboat for 4 years now, we were, for the first time, quite nervous to come back to her, after our little break we just had on land. Only because, we had a new new stowaway in tow and we wondered what it was going to be like now, sailing with two kids. I feared that no one would get any sleep with the rocking of the waves. That I’d forget to buy something essential for the kids before we left port. That my seasickness I’d been experiencing since getting pregnant with Lenny many years ago now will have worsened after the birth of our second child. It was nice to untie the lines, and learn that all of these fears were just that. Fears. Riley always says not to worry because if the worry happens you have suffered now twice. It's an OCEAN ALEXANDER 45 Classico Sedan built in 2005 and I wish we had seen one like this when we were searching for our liveaboard because it has a lot to offer! My personal favs were: massive Flybridge, safest & the most comfortable walkaround I have ever seen on this size of a yacht, very interesting design of the heads, good 2nd cabin for a couple, and a very bright and airy galley! You can really tell it's nearing the hurricane season, as the weather starts to get more and more hectic and un predictable in this part of the Caribbean! We have been greeted by lots of rain, squalls, and more rain as we head south towards Grenada where we haul out for the hurricane season. We are kidnapped by two local legends - Nick and Dani from Saint Lucia, and they take us on a tour of their island showing us some hidden waterfalls, hot springs and tell us a bit about the history of this beautiful green, lush island. The 606 nm Rolex Middle Sea Race, organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club, takes place each year and encompasses one of the most scenic courses in the world. 104 boats from 30 nations started the 38th edition. Owing to seriously strong winds and a considerable sea state on the third day, only 35 yachts completed the course confirming the race’s reputation as one of the most challenging in offshore sailing. Centred in the heart of the Mediterranean, the race starts and finishes in Malta. Leaving from Grand Harbour, Valletta, the fleet passes through the Strait of Messina and rounds the active volcano of Stromboli off the northern coast of Sicily. It then continues west past the Aeolian Islands and on to the Egadi Islands, before turning south to Pantelleria and Lampedusa and finally back to the finish.
