We cruised our classic wooden sailboat Julia to many spectacular anchorages on Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa. This is south pacific sailing as we have always dreamed it would be. The spectacular green scenery of the Marquesas has overwhelmed us with soaring cliffs, beautiful beaches, and swaying palm trees. Julia is an Ingrid Ketch, designed by William Atkin and built in 1960. She is a traditionally built wooden boat, fir planking on oak frames. Our dinghy is skin on frame, designed by Dave Gentry. We finally manage to leave the Bahamas on a hurricane damaged 2015 fountain pajot Helia 44. We go through a few of the things I did to prepare for this passage across the Gulf Stream to Florida, but get pulled over by the cops on arrival. We weren't breaking any laws so I wasn't too worried. We then go to the shipyard ready to haul out and begin the repairs! Exploring new islands is so exciting so we set sail from Eleuthera to the Berry Islands. A little stop at Green Cay by Nassau lets us snorkel real close to turtles.
