5 days at sea, sailing Panama to Galapagos (845 nm). It was good to set sail and be free of all things technology for a while (minus the cameras and video editing on the lappy….. But luckily I love that stuff). It was very calm for most of the trip. A BIG difference in weather if you compare it to the Caribbean, especially around Columbia!! Looking back, that was absolutely crazy. We couldn’t believe the amount of wild life we saw on this trip alone. It hadn't happened yet, in the whole 2 years we have been sailing around the world BUT we had finally ran La Vagabonde completely out of food (apart from a few odd things we found scattered around in some dark and very scary places). Unfortunately, we had missed the ship in Nuku Hiva to stock up before leaving to the Tuamotus, and of course the only supermarket on the island of Raroia hadn’t had a ship of supplies come for the past 3 weeks…. so the no food situation quickly became a problem. We managed to catch a few fish, but after 2 weeks of exploring this magical island, we had to set sail to the main island of the bunch - Fakarava, where we could hopefully get some fresh fruit and veg. (currently typing this whilst eating a can of mushy peas and carrots…. HELP ME!!). Made with love, Elayna. Whats the REAL story behind Patrick Childress, sailing the last storm of his life? Whats the future for his wife and first mate Rebecca Childress onboard their 1976 Valiant 40, Brick House, after a near circumnavigation, and the Patrick Childress Sailing Channel here on YouTube? Patrick and Rebecca Childress have been sailing around the world for 13 years, and recently sailed around the Cape of Good Hope, the Cape of storms, to Hout Bay, and then to one of Patrick Childress' most remembered places in the world, Cape Town, where he had visited nearly 40 years ago on his first circumnavigation aboard Juggernaut, a Catalina 27. He had spoken fondly about the Royal Cape Yacht Club for a decade before arriving here. Its interesting that Cape Town turned out to be his final resting place. We sail to Hiva Oa, and checkout one of the most ancient Tiki sites in French Polynesia. Absolutely breathtaking! Riley also surprises me by booking a horse ride through the beautiful green valley of Atuona. These horses were a little crazy, but we made it out alive and it was such an incredible experience. People always say "Sailing is fixing things in remote locations" and as usual that adage hits the nail on the head.
