How can you stop small fish to seek refuge in your intake thru-hull connecting to your head? If you stay at anchor or mooring for a long time … especially if your bottom anti-fouling paint is not effective anymore … chances are quite high that soon or later … and repeatedly, you might suck in that fish all the way into your toilet pump cylinder … Smelly and blocking the water intake so you will have to close your seacock, take the pump apart and clean it from fish debris .. not very fun and time consuming! The first thing you can do is to install a small mesh filter online so it is easier and quicker to open and get the fish out but if that is difficult to do (poor access to filter or your filter might leak if opening and closing too often, you could stop anything (fish/debris) from even entering your intake line. In this video, I show how to build & install easily & inexpensively a small filter to do just that. If you do not find a small piece of SS mesh, you could also use mesh in plastic … If you have a scuba tank and a air nozzle it is actually quite easier and quick to disconnect the intake water hose from the pump and blow some air burst to reverse anything anywhere in the system as you see in the video. Filmed in 2020.

Vlog #26 We sail out of La Paz with our next destination being Banderas Bay. We check out a few anchorages on our way down to los frailes. We arrived there late in the day and went to bed. When we woke up it was Travs birthday and we were ready to set sail. It would take us about three days to go straight across to Banderas Bay. Along the way we once again saw a bunch of whales and dolphins and caugh another mahi! Delicious! We were so excited to finally arrive into the heat! La Paz had been quite chilly and the first mate was over it! Check yaaaa next time when we check out the town and go swimming. -------------------------------- Instagram- @Sailingdecorum --------------------------------- --------------------------------- *WHO ARE WE?* •We are a Canadian couple, Travis and Jessica. KAMALII - Philip Rhodes 75 ft #Bermudan #Ketch 1958 https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/630/KAMALII She is considered one of the ‘Rhodes 77s’, but with a big difference: her original owner - heir to his family’s oil fortune, Larry Doheny III - specified a deep, full keel hull form for enhanced windward performance for this deceptively fast and exceptionally comfortable family cruiser-racer ketch. Or is it #racer-cruiser? In Doheny’s long ownership, KAMALII participated in seven consecutive bi-annual Los Angeles to Honolulu ‘Transpac’ Races, finishing 2nd in class A in 1959. The present owners purchased KAMALII in #california and after major hull restoration, in 2013 cruised the Pacific to her new life in New Zealand where upgrading has continued in between use as a family #cruiser with the finest of #pedigrees.

Well it's another hot spell here in the UK, and I'm struggling to keep the boat cool yet again. I've got new blinds and my trusty fan though so we'll see how it goes! Anyone else considering air-con this year?

This video is in memory of Raff - Raffaele Pagliarini from SV YAWO. The first time we met Raff was in Middle Percy Island lagoon, where he had his catamaran beached. We had shared a few dinners together and he invited us over for wood fire pizzas. It was such a unique experience and it was the best tasting pizza we have ever had. Raff shared many stories, of his 40 years of sailing. Originally from Italy, this man truely knew how to live off the grid and was self-sufficient. He once mention that he had been 8 months without going to the shops to provision. He would trade with fellow yachties, for the exchange of home-made bread. Raff also shared in the 40 years of sailing, not once had he gone into a Marina. That still blows my mind away. He was a true sailor, with a wealth of knowledge and always making interesting modifications to his vessel to make it sail faster. He was like the mad scientist and Josh would say his boat reminded him of the movie “Water World”. Raff will be truely missed in the sailing community. He had the biggest heart, full of so much knowledge and he was such a unique individual. His unique way of life, is such an inspiration. From the way he made modifications to make his catamaran & canoe to sail faster. To living off the land and sharing his knowledge about his inventions. From growing vegetables on land and harvesting his crop, he was known for helping fellow sailors out in the community. We count ourselves very fortunate to of crossed paths with Raff. We were also lucky enough to have the opportunity to enjoy his yummy wood fire pizzas. A memory we will treasure forever… Rest in peace my friend x Raff tragically lost his life, after a fire tore through his vessel SV YAWO, in Johnson River on the 4th November 2023. #cruisinglife #sailinglife #sailingadventures #sailing #sailingfamily #sailor #sailingaustralia #catamaran #travel #gypsie #nomadic #lifestyle #vlog #islands #sailingtrip #sailinglife #outdoorliving #boatlife #familyadventure #sailingyoutubechannel #ycass #ycdu #lattsandatts #seagypsy #freedomofthesea #traveldiaries

Learn how to stern anchor in narrow creeks with these essential tips for anchoring your sailboat in tight spaces. Perfect for sailors in SC! Join us as we explore Beaufort, and more while demonstrating successful anchoring in challenging locations this week. The weather just doesn't want to cooperate while we are in Charleston so we pick up anchor and continue south. We find a beautiful anchorage up a narrow creek off the Dawho River. It requires us to use our stern anchoring skills to prevent the crazy currents from swinging us all over the place. After hanging out there for a couple of nights we go to Beaufort, South Carolina. We absolutely love this place! Gorgeous and quiet anchorage in the perfect location. Don't forget to subscribe for more enjoyable cruising down the ICW, and beyond! Patrick has been sailing his home built plywood Strike 20 in France for many years (see his earlier videos) He just reported "Some refitting of my Strike 20 this year! New 20' outriggers from a Nacra 6.0 replacing the F18 ones I used previously. New paint for the mainhull, Tornado spinnaker, electric motor with LiFePo4 battery. New crew from a Tornado. Hey! We’re Ruth and Andrew 👋🏼 Earlier this year, after years of dreaming, we left our family, friends and lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, behind as we set off to chase our shared dream of sailing the world. In April, we bought our 11m catamaran, Rúna, which we now call home as we live, work, sail and adventure full-time. Join us as we explore the Mediterranean and get to grips with life at sea 🏝️ In this week’s episode, we’re trying to give you a real glimpse into what life looks like living on a catamaran in the Med! From island anchorages and secret underwater adventures, to running from storms and tackling boat maintenance, it’s all part of the reality of sailing full-time in the Mediterranean ⛵️✨ We leave mainland France behind and head for island life, exploring the stunning Îles d'Hyères, swimming in crystal clear waters, hiking rugged landscapes, and even anchoring in a nudist resort by accident (yes… that was unexpected 😅). We try out some new filming gear to take you along as we sail Rúna in strong winds! And we discover Europe’s very first marine national park at Port-Cros, where we search for a hidden underwater trail. And when the thunderstorm rolls in, Ruth gets very wet as she sails us back to the mainland to ride it out in a protected bay. This is a typical week living on a sailing boat in the Mediterranean!
