From our glimpse from the dock, the 43 features a rig that is stepped further forward than on the 42, and it has an overlapping jib. The design shows a slender, sloping coachroof base that refines the superstructure. At the stern, the bulwark is cut out to ensure direct access to the quay when the catamaran is moored alongside. On deck, the 43 gains a forward cockpit compared to the 42. The helm station remains raised on the port side but is now accompanied by a U-shaped bench seat rather than a simple sunlounger. Inside, the builder has designed an ingenious modular table that can straddle the nacelle and cockpit while providing seating for 12. A large opening hatch is installed in the forward face of the nacelle, not unlike the one on the very first Bali, the 4.5. The forward volume of the hulls has been optimized to increase sleeping capacity - in the Owner’s version, the bed is installed forward and there is a proper desk, like you would have at home. The 4-cabin version offers all equivalent volumes. Mehrere Freunde hatte es zuletzt erwischt: Dieselpest! Die Filter verstopfen, der Motor verstummt oder springt gar nicht erst an. Und das natürlich meistens in den ungünstigsten Momenten. Prophylaktisch wollen wir also den Tank kontrollieren und bei Bedarf reinigen. Denn das haben wir noch nie getan. Bislang haben wir uns durch den Zusatz von Additiven gegen Dieselpest auf der sicheren Seite gefühlt. Doch das ändert sich, sobald ich den Tank öffne...

Nouveau moussaillon pour une semaine: Tom ! On se dirige vers les Iles Eoliennes (toutes volcaniques) avec lui. Contents d'avoir de la visite et d'offrir la possibilité à ceux qui le veulent de rejoindre le bord. On profites des îles dans la baie de Naples puis go Stromboli. Arrivés là-bas, cette île à quelque chose de spéciale. Ce volcan nous donne une leçon, on se rend compte de la puissance de la terre et à la vue des éruptions le coeur se remplit d'une sensation d'émerveillement. Tom repart depuis Stromboli et on quitte cette île plein d'extase, le moral gonflé à bloc. Le reste des îles est magnifique également, chacunes avec leurs différences. Aller d'île en île, gratuitement, au grès du vent (capricieux parfois) et une chance qu'il faut garder en tête. On se sent libre et ça fait du bien. Ne pas être guidés par un calandrier ou des impératifs. On en perd le fil des jours comme toujours. Prochaine étape la Sicile, la chaleur quasi-insoutenable et ces satanés moustiques qui aiment voyager avec nous. En d'autres mots, des nuits plus compliquées que d'autres... mais c'est l'aventure, la vrai.

Met Simone maak ik nog wat uitstapjes in de omgeving voordat ik voor een vakantie (echt waar...) terug naar Nederland vlieg. Als ik weer terug ben en Patrick ook weer aan boord is, komt Chloé aan boord als nieuwe bemanning. Van Simone nemen we in Sintra afscheid. Haar avonturen gaan verder op het land. Met koffie en pasteis de nata, de Portugese delicatesse verzachten we het afscheid. We doen nog wat klussen en bereiden ons voor op de oversteek naar de Madeira archipel. We zullen daar na een oversteek van 480 nm eerst het eilandje Porto Santo aandoen. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. This is Episode 50 of our adventure. Our second week in France and everything that could go wrong did go wrong. We got caught in a squall, the sail-bag broke, we lost the jib halyard inside the mast, we lost more expensive items overboard, we had a broken spreader light to fix, Hugh tried to speak French with hilarious consequence. But we still manage to have fun visiting Lézardrieux, Paimpol and Port Blanc. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have the guts to cast off. Follow our adventures.
