Dry boat - very easy - all year - even freezing winter. No condensation. No smelly boat. No rust og corrosion. Just more comfort! In this video you will see how we have installed a dehumidifier for fixed installation in a sailboat. The boat is a Bavaria C46 from 2024. What we have done is to place the dehumidifier in the very aft of the boat. The dehumidifier is then sucking the air from the centre of the boat, drying the air and blowing it back to four different places in the boat. The moisture is blown out of the transom of the boat as wet air (not water). The dry air is blown to both aft cabins, and to the bow of the boat and to the centre of the boat. This gives an air circulation of dry air, that will keep the boat free from condensation. Pedro Garra is Commodore for the Snipe Class International Racing Association. He sailed at the World Championship in San Diego this September representing his home country of Uruguay. He comes with strong Snipe credentials as his father won a Bronze medal in Snipes at the PanAm Games. Pedro represents the best type of Commodore, one who comes to the job as a top sailor and one who sees his role as making sure that the Class stays strong for all those who sail the boat. He joins a long list of SCIRA Commodores who have managed to keep this 78 year old class a powerhouse in international dinghy competitions. If you have refrigeration on your boat you can use Ice making during the day, when you will have solar power to reduce the load on your ships batteries. Storing energy as ice to keep your ice box cold over night will reduce the power drain on the batteries This means they will last longer and/or you can have less battery capacity on board. I describe two methods I use on board to reduce the power consumption over night.

We sail from Zoe Falls to the northern most point of Hinchinbrook Island and check out Richard's Bay, before tucking into Missionary Bay for the night. We have a fish and try our luck catching a barramundi. We then head to Hudson Island and on to Mourilyan Harbour where we sit out a strong south easterly blow.

The fleet developed from a competition run by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron during the late 1940s. They wanted to build a fleet of yachts that would perform well in local conditions and satisfy both the serious sailor who wanted to go racing as well as the family that wanted to go cruising. The Squadron anticipated an influx of keen sailors returning from the war, and they thought a racer-cruiser yacht would meet their needs. There were many entries into this design competition, not just from New Zealand, but from around the world. It was eventually won by Arthur Robb, a Kiwi living and working in London at the time.

Waking up at 4am because the keel is banging the ground is next to sinking a sailors worst nightmare. I woke up, hearing the wind roar, looked outside my hatch and had the mangrooves 20 meters to my right and trees from the beach hitting the back of the boat. I jumped out of bed screaming while running outside waking up the guys hoping we could save the boat from beaching completely.
