The crew of Spindrift shares his adventure around the world To undertake the crewed around-the-world record is as much about the human adventure as it is a technical and sporting challenge. The men and women working alongside Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard at Spindrift racing have been preparing this race against the clock for almost three years. The target: to sail around the world in less than 45 days, 13 hours and 42 minutes. The tough record they will try to beat was set by Loïck Peyron and his crew in 2012 on Banque Populaire V, which was renamed Spindrift 2 a year later. The French-Swiss team decided to use the same 40 m trimaran because they believed that the boat could be further optimised, a task that sailors, engineers and technicians at the team have been working on ever since. After countless hours of work at the boatyard and 40,000 nautical miles of racing and training, the Spindrift racing-prepared trimaran is all set to go. The team will officially go on stand-by on October 19th and wait for the ideal weather window. After Komodo, the BPO participants sailed to Medana Bay Marina on Lombok. Great welcome at the marina with welcoming dinner of local dishes. Participants did some touring and shopping in the area as well as went to visit Bali by ferry. The day before departure, the marina had a great show of local music and dancing from North Lombok followed by another nice buffet of local foods. Thanks to the management and staff of Medana Bay Marina and thanks again to s/v Chapter Two for hosting me during the sailing passage and for the use of their GoPro cameras! We finally leave Portimao and sail along hugging the coast to avoid the Orcas. We anchor for the night in Faro but the weather being good we sailed on the next day to the Guadiana the border of Portugal and Spain. We pop into Spain to get some supplies sand the next day sailed to Mazagon. We were trapped here for a week, the place was nice enough just a little deserted so we entertained ourselves with projects and Hugh fixed the water tanks. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have t he guts to cast off. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen.
