There is an endless list of jobs that needs to be done and fixed onboard most yachts, like, always. You could stay in one port FOREVER if you wanted, preparing your vessel for a particular sail or ​even a ​circumnavigation up to your standards… but at some stage, you’ve just gotta leave or you’ll never go! Regardless of a few broken parts onboard, we left the main island of Vava’u for a little island hopping adventure (I should be noted, that we wouldn’t have done this if it was a large open ocean sail haha). In this episode of Sailing Nandji, its time to run the hours up on our new engine fang as we sea trial our new motor. After installing our new engine we soon realised that we would be in need of an autopilot as we plan to do a bit of motoring around Indonesia chasing waves. We break the bank and purchase a CPT Autopilot which is stand alone easy to install unit. Yosh installs the autopilot and we sea trial the new autopilot. We may be out of the boatyard but we still have crap every where and lots of little tedious jobs to finalise. Each day whilst we wait for our good camera to be fixed and returned to us, we work 8 hours on the boat anchored somewhere nice away from people and then in the afternoon light, go exploring around the islands. Work hard, Play hard! It is good to be back in a bikini and sailing Langkawi finally. Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia and finally arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. The work is now complete so look out Thailand and Indonesia, here we come! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! We'd set off with the spearguns to find dinner. After filleting the fish and preparing the lobster we'd caught, I noticed a dark shadow off the back of the boat. I jumped in the water to find a GIANT Loggerhead turtle munching on the lobster head. He was so chill, not concerned about me in the slightest. But it’s easier to tackle these tasks before the planking goes on, and I’ve had the help of a shipbuilding engineer to work out the best shape and size for these alarming new holes. Also in this episode, I finally make the template for the final shape of the transom, and Pete fairs it into the rest of the hull very nicely - more-or-less completing the tedious but valuable fairing job. This was a very interesting project, On my way back from Vietnam, I dropped into Batam Island off the coast of Sumatra, to film a friends brand new amazing carbon fibre yacht he had just built. Literally a week or two old. TALK ABOUT FAST ! Stable and so easy to sail ! It's very much the cruising boat of the future, I didn't have all my normal crew or cameras with me and decided to shoot this on a tiny SONY A7s, which was pretty much useless when shooting from a dingy in rough water. I asked my son to purchase a little DJI OSMO for a bit of fun and to bring it up with him (which ended being a life saver) And we also we asked a DJI drone crew to come in from Jakarta to help out as well. The stability results from these little DJI cameras were outstanding ! The RAPIDO TRIMARAN people were more than happy with the end result. :) And me being a very fussy camera nerd... was blown away ! Will these little toy cameras replace my RED CAMERAS... No. But I have to say, they were the perfect tools for this project.

Mother Nature rules our lives, and sometimes she can be a shifty old gal. Because of this, we watch the forecast like hawks, but local weather can be challenging to predict, and so our stunning new anchorage was short lived. Last week we found ourselves picking our jaws up off the floor at the beautiful coastline the morning after our first overnight sail complete with a couple dolphins viewed from our new found bow seat. The next day however we awoke to an unpredicted shift from NE to NW winds and rapidly deteriorating anchorage conditions. We tried muscling through a day of work, but with the new forecast update now showing the wind building and shifting even more against our favor, we decided to abandon the area entirely. Thankfully the boat sharing the anchorage agreed and has a track that can lead us to their previous anchorage, that would offer much better protection. The catch? It’s 22 miles in the direction the wind is coming from, it’s supposedly blowing 30 knots out there, and it’s 6pm so the sun is setting. If Courage wasn’t here (yes their boats name is Courage how ironic) I’m not sure what we would have done that evening because the prospect of entering an unknown anchorage alone at night in these conditions didn’t sit well with us. An der Messe in Düsseldorf habe ich mir etwas Zeit genommen, MEIN absolutes Traumboot auf Herz und Nieren zu studieren und dieses Video für euch zusammenzustellen. Das für mich perfekte Boot für eine Weltumsegelung ist die Sirius 35DS. Wobei DS für Deckssalon steht und damit habt ihr vermutlich schon eine Idee, was ich an einem Boot schätze: neben Sicherheit und Robustheit ist mir besonders der Lebensraum wichtig. Bei der Sirius 35DS spielt sich das Leben im geschützten Cockpit und im Deckssalon ab, die nahtlos miteinander verbunden sind. So verliert man auch bei Ekelwetter, Sturm und Regen nicht die Lust am Segeln und muss seine Reiseroute nicht auf die Barfussroute beschränken. Die Eignerkabine ist mittschiffs unterhalb vom Salon, sodass man auch an schwelligen Ankerplätzen und auf See gut schlafen kann. Und der begehbare Motorraum mit genug Stauraum für Werkzeug und einer kleinen Werkbank macht den Traum perfekt – denn wir wissen ja alle: als Blauwassersegler repariert man sein Schiff an den schönsten Ankerplätzen der Welt.
